BE VERY CAREFUL BEFORE RENTING HERE. I was very excited when I found the AMLI. I had previously lived in NYC and I loved the vibe and the similar feel. I was also expecting a baby within a few weeks of my move, that I was adopting. I chose AMLI because of the pool, the gym, the common areas, that as a single parent was very important, as we would not be going anywhere for awhile.
I signed the lease pre-covid, so obviously many factors were out of AMLI's control. What was in their control was handled terribly, and at the risk of my and my daughter's life.
My daughter was born in a hospital in St. Pete, on March 22nd. She was born with a septic infection and kept in the hospital on IV antibiotics. This has caused her to have a compromised immune system.
When it was time to bring her home, I called the AMLI to see if there were any confirmed cases of COVID. I was told that there were, but that they would not disclose the location in the building.
Obviously I would not risk her safety (or my own) so I rented a second place in FL. I kept calling to see about the cases. When she approached 8 weeks, after paying two rents for this time, and finally had her shots, I finally stepped foot into my apartment at the AMLI. I felt a little bit better knowing she had a bit of immunity from other things.
The first night I literally slept in the apartment, after paying rent for two months, there were 6-fire alarms, causing evacuations. There was no direction from anyone on staff, and we were forced into the stairwell, in the middle of the night, with most people not wearing masks, no social distancing, and literally on the street corner in the middle of the night. Obviously I can not cover a newborn, so I risked her life and contracting COVID, each time. This occurred on June 11th, all through the night.
When I complained the next day, all I got was apologies and that it was out of their control. What the management did not "listen to" is that the damage was done. They do not enforce mask wearing here, so the fact that my child was exposed to others in close proximity, multiple times, she very well may have contracted the disease.
I then let them know I wanted out of the lease and was told I needed to pay two additional months' rent. I pleaded with them to consider people over policy during this national crisis but was told I still need to pay the fees.
Eventually, they agreed to forgive the two months and pay back the free month that came with unit, plus the $500 gift card.
I have been paying double rents, with a newborn, and when I explained that I could not afford this, they are now evicting me and adding on additional fees. THIS PLACE IS NOT SAFE. They do not require masks, the maintenance people enter without them.
I had the highest hopes and the world circumstances changed, but their management is terrible and they risked our lives, while costing me over $10,000 for moves and an apartment I never actually lived in. read more
