Dr Amit Gupta is a Robotic Surgery Rock Star.
I've seen a Dr Gupta on TV, but it doesn't mean he's famous - means he's recognizable on the airwaves during primetime cable TV. But IMO that TV Dr Gupta has nothing over my Dr Gupta. Because my Dr Gupta is like a rock star, and helped cure me when no other Urologist could. I don't like discussing personal health matters on the internet because I'm a private person. But it's the only way to express myself, let others know about Dr G, and confirm he's legit. He worked his magic & expertise on my bladder, with complex 3-hour robotic surgery, and so far so great.
Dr G is kind & professional. He's genuine & authentic. He's direct & straight forward, while explaining things so carefully, he makes it easier to understand. He showed me my bladder on his laptop and precisely where my problems existed. You should see him navigating his software like a tech star from Silicon Valley. He's not just a Dr, he's tech savoy. I think he might be a genius too.
I asked him the same questions more than once because I didn't like what I first heard, and felt like I was talking to Charlie Brown's parents...and all I kept thinking was "oh no, that sounds too painful" & "I'm going to be scared for life" & "oh no, what if I have cancer?" and my inner thoughts ran wild, thinking about the surgery & procedures, recovery...and what if I didn't respond well? What if the surgery made me worse? But Dr G calmed my nerves with his understanding demeanor and caring bedside manner.
The first time I saw Dr G was a 2nd opinion prior to a surgery back in April 2021. Little did I know, he already knew who I was because my former Urologist told him all about me and discussed my condition, because he would be the one performing the robotic bladder surgery my previous urologist was unable to do.
Before I see any new Dr, I put on my thinking cap & Superman cape, and soar through cyberspace and Google everything I can find out about the person - schools, residencies, experience, expertise, board certifications, awards, honors, reviews etc etc. Heck, I've even discovered some things about Doctors they didn't even know about themselves :) Everything I found & read about Dr G convinced me that not only he's the right Dr for me, he's one of the top Urologists & Robotic Surgeons in the U.S. Unfortunately, I didn't find about him sooner. It's taken me nearly 2 years, 5 other Urologists, one previous surgery, several procedures & exams, 3 UTI's, one CT...and a partridge in a pear tree.
I still try to maintain my positive attitude & sense of humor, despite all the pain & suffering and discomfort I've dealt with these last 2 years, while living with this rare and not so common bladder condition. Like I said, I wish I knew about Dr G two years ago and I wish these other Urologists knew what Dr G knows and didn't lack his judgement because on Jan 5th, 2022 Dr G changed my life.
I'm now only 10 days removed from surgery, and even though I still have several weeks of recovering from this and several months until I fully recover from that. But I'm no longer experiencing any of the bladder issues I had previously. I've responded so well to his 3-hr robotic surgical procedures, I was discharged from the hospital on day 4 without a catheter, thank god. And even though I'm still experiencing some pain & discomfort (which is normal) I've yet to have any setbacks, improving day by day, and remain optimistic.
Dr G has been there for me throughout this entire process. He's always available to me by email. Unbeknownst to me during my hospital stay, he was always checking on my medical chart, vitals, pain levels and my recovery updates with his access to Cedars Sinai's hospital database. He even personally took care of issues I had with my meds & meals during my hospital stay. If that's not enough, he visited me back-to-back nights to check on me. The second visit was at 9:15pm on a Friday, to inform me how well I was responding, progressing, I didn't have cancer, the nurse will remove the catheter the following morning, and I will be discharged the next day.
In addition to Dr G, Melanie, in his office is so sweet & helpful as can be and genuinely cares about me & all the patients. She's incredible with email responses & following up with everything. Also, there's wonderful RN Kirsten, and let's just say she made a painful & uncomfortable in-office procedure a lot less painful to tolerate.
I wish Dr G could be my Primary Care Provider, but lately it's felt like he has been. He's been everything. Words can't describe & express my gratitude for Dr Gupta. But maybe my words can. Because if you're still reading this, perhaps you're dealing with a health issue of your own and you're searching for an amazing Urologist.
Thanks again, Dr G & your entire team. I know I'll be in perfect hands as I continue my recovery process, email exchanges, post op appointments, and annual checkups when needed. read more
