Thank God for A students. Some months ago, after a painful bout with a kidney stone, I received a troubling diagnosis. A tumor was sitting on the inside of my left kidney and it was probably cancerous. Fortunately for me I was referred into the most capable hands of Dr. S. Ramin from Beverly Hills Urology. I met with him and we discussed my options. I could ignore it at my peril... or undergo a robotic surgery to remove the lesion. I chose the latter and after a few months of recovery I am grateful for it. Dr. Ramin did exactly what he said he thought he could do. He excised the lesion and saved my kidney. Dr Souroush Adam Ramin is looking after my autistic son James. James lost his right testicle to cancer on May 30, 2019. I was assured that he was 100% cured and that I should wait until January/ February 2021 before testing him again. I was scolded and quoted statistics for trying to getting him tested sooner. I am so grateful to Dr Ramin for taking this matter seriously and not just quoting statistics at me. Statistics are fine if you are buying a car, but when it's your child's life, you want to weigh your child's specific reality as well as the insurance statistics. James's Tumor Marker has steadily climbed since he finished chemo in 2019. While I was told he was well, he did not seem well to me. He never bounced back and was bedridden most of this past year. Dr Ramin ordered tests other doctors refused to order until next year. It would be a sin to allow James to suffer until January 2021 and have to go through metastasis TWICE. Autistic people deserve early diagnosis as much as the general population. Some doctors blame autism for late diagnosis but with today's technology there are ways around the problems. James has multiple, unrelated health issues and some doctors are reluctant to even try to diagnose him because of this. An autistic person who can't keep a Zio patch heart monitor on CAN have an implant monitor (according to the psychiatrist/neurologist we consulted) to rule out heart disease as the cause of sharp pain and fainting. James is on Warfarin because he has a history of blood clots and has Factor II G20210A mutation. I had been told by one angry cardiologist that I must simply accept James could suffer sudden death from a blood clot at any minute. That is not true. James is now taking Warfarin and can have a long happy life. There is never a need to throw up your hands and say autistic people can't be diagnosed. If you believe your autistic child is sick but their doctor is doing nothing, take the advice a psychiatrist who examined James gave me: Go AROUND any doctor who will not help your son. You are his advocate. Keep going until you find a doctor who will help him. Don't let them give him Ativan again (the psychiatrist carefully weaned James off Ativan and was appalled by the psych medications other doctors had given James with to make him stop crying (when he had undiagnosed cancer that was metastasizing). James was even given an injection of Haldol to make him shut up in the ER and it shut his throat closed. He had a severe allergic reaction to it. He was crying in PAIN but it was treated as a mental illness because he is autistic. The repeated over use of Ativan in the emergency room also caused withdrawals that almost killed James). The psychiatrist told me: "Your son is NOT mentally ill. Autism is not a mental illness. I believe your son has physical pain. Go around any doctor who will not help your son." Sadly, James's cancer was diagnosed in the Emergency Room because none of the doctors who were treating him at the time would order tests other than urine tests to prove it wasn't a bladder infection. They blamed autism. They blamed me. They told me to use behavior modification, to do my job as a mother and to MAKE him get out of bed. Even when the cancer made James limp Christmas 2018, his urologist and primary care said "autistic people often walk funny." The cancer in the right testicle had attached the testicle to the skin of James's scrotum. It hurt to walk. I showed his doctors video of him walking. When the right testicle was removed via TWO incisions because it was attached to his skin, in May 2019, James stopped walking funny. It wasn't autism. It was cancer. I am very grateful to Dr Ramin for taking this seriously. It is beyond heartbreaking that other doctors are still telling me nothing is wrong with James, that it can wait until 2021. Something is wrong. James is not well. Thank God for Dr Ramin. I highly recommend him. read more

My husband was "diagnosed" by this doctor in the ER at Cedars Sinai. We actually never saw him but rather he communicated through the ER attending and we were discharged and told to call his office and make a follow up appointment within 2 days. We left several messages and his office never returned our calls. Horrible feeling. We had to go searching for another doctor to see us. What kind of a doctor and medical practice does not answer their phone or return patient messages? It has been over 10 days with no call back, which is shameful. Dr Ramin delivered some fairly bad and most surprising news in a very kind and caring way. He was unrushed and empathic in giving me options. I knew before I went to the appt that I was in very capable hands because I had done my research. (His delivery and demeanor only reinforced this) But when he explained what was going on with my body, I was truly grateful it was he who was there because I did not feel alone or unsupported. This is unusual for a doctor, I think. His staff are courteous and professional. And the P.A. who came in to take my initial information put me at ease immediately. I first met Dr Ramin in the ER of St Johns because I had several serious, life-threatening problems going on and Dr Ramin was like a quarterback with 2 minutes to go in a no huddle offense. He was in the zone. Knew exactly what to do, exactly what needed to be done. Exactly the guy I needed. He told me to book an appointment for the following week in his office and maybe the bad Yelp reviews helped me. Suckers! At first it took over two months to get an appointment, but boy was it worth the wait many times over. Dr. Ramin is a true professional, and more importantly a caring practitioner of medicine. Though you can tell he is extremely busy because of his high praise and marks, when he enters the room he is strictly focused on you; nothing and no one else matters. This man saved my life. After having a doctor who offered that I was fine, & although my PSA was rising "a bit, & we'll keep an we on it," I was referred to Dr. Ramin. I called his office. I was given an immediate appointment, met w/Dr. Ramin, who scheduled several tests forthwith, then met w/me on a Friday night in his personal office until 8:30 to explain my choices & expected results. Within days, he performed surgery on me, followed up w/blood tests every month thereafter, put me on hormone injections, noted a PSA & ordered a radiation protocol, & has continued to monitor me carefully ever since 2013 when this unpleasantness all began. His attention to detail, his skill as a surgeon, his care, concern, support, professionalism, & ability to explain things in other than "Dr. language" is extraordinary. I am 75, have been trough the hands of many doctors, & none are better. I would recommend him without the slightest hesitation. The old adage that "the proof is in the pudding," is herein appropriate ......"I am still here 7 years later living a full & enjoyable life." To those of you who whine about having to wait to see him, how much better would you feel if you got right in to see some Dr. who could accommodate you because he/she had too few patients. I recently had robotic surgery performed by Dr. Ramin and am pleased to give him my highest rating. In advance of the surgery, at the hospital and afterwards he explained things clearly, answered all my questions and gave me confidence that he was the right person to be in charge of the operation. The surgery itself went smoothly, with minimal discomfort and only one night in the hospital. However, here's the big downside of the clinic - it is extremely difficult to get hold of someone on the phone and waiting time could be 1 hour after your designated appointment. Staff can be rude and would hang up on you; they would not call you back if you ask for a return call; you should attempt to call many times; always in a hurry to talk to you; would downright say they don't know. I was feeling pretty hopeless when I began seeing Dr. Ramin in March. Earlier in the year I'd had a horrible episode when my bladder refused to empty. After going to the ER, I was catheterized. I'd never seen a urologist before but my primary care physician suggested I see Dr. Ramin ASAP. The office fast-tracked my appointment and after a couple tests that included a CT scan and pro-dynamic and void testing, Dr Ramin patiently explained that I needed prostate surgery so that my bladder could begin functioning normally again. He provided me with various options but we settled on the TURP-also knows as the gold standard for this sort of thing. The surgery at Cedars-Sinai went smoothly, and after I short overnight stay I was home. A week later I returned to Dr. Ramin's office-the Dr took the time to explain the surgery, the results and the steps I needed to take during the recovery process. Then the catheter was removed (no pain at all) and everything has returned to normal. I couldn't be more overjoyed being able to reclaim my life and being able to start doing all the things that I'd been missing for the last few weeks. Dr; Ramin and his attentive staff and physician assistant were marvelous through the entire ordeal. I have been seeing Dr. Ramin at his Century City office for 3 years for routine checkups. Although this positive review is prompted by a recent surgical procedure, I would give Dr. Ramin an extremely high rating for his routine care as well. Dr. Ramin is competent and extremely knowledgeable in his field. He is also an empathetic communicator and shows an "old school" approach to patient care - he takes all the time that is needed to explain things to the patient. As I mentioned, I recently needed a very important surgical procedure. I should mention the condition would have been much worse if Dr. Ramin had not been so attentive to my health - it was caught VERY early. I took the time to do a great deal of research on my condition and the available treatments, and learned that surgery was the most effective way to deal with it - I also learned that the efficacy of the surgery and the post-surgery recovery time were directly linked to the skill of the surgeon. I received a call from their office to make an appointment because apparently my authorization was going to expire (per the lady at the office), so I made an appointment and showed up at their office and I was informed that they do not have the authorization. I provided my ID and Social security and they did not know how to get the authorization from the insurance website. WOW! Such a knowledgeable staff. Last Monday 3/28/16 7:30 am I went for robotic kidney surgery with Dr. Ramin. Today, 4/4/16 I just waked a mile and a half in Griffith Park, and I feel great! The healing seems quicker, and my appetite is good. This is so much better than open surgery. Even so, I'm told he saved 90% of my kidney and removed all the cancer. Thanks Dr. Ramin, very much. Trying to book and appointment is a battle in itself. Half the time theire phone lines are busy and when you do get through you're on hold for half an hour. The earliest I could be seen was in two months. When I arrived the lobby was overflowing with people. A lot of them had to stand including older women and people with disabilities. The first time I went I waited an hour and a half. The second time I went I waited over two hours. When I told the doctor he seemed like he couldn't care less. Worst place ever!!! stay away It took me 10 phone calls to get hold of them, then it takes them 3 days to get back to you for a appointment. Then they gave me a appointment for my mom 8am today. i wake up 6 am drive down their with my mom , we arrive a little early so we hang out at the Starbucks close by then at 7.55 we go and see that the gates are closed for the clinic, i also see another gentlemen standing and trying to call them. i give them a call and their is a call center answering the phone. I am completely shocked by the negative reviews. My father in law has prostate cancer and is in need of surgery and Dr. Ramin offers the robotic surgery. The office staff are super nice and took care of all his questions and paperwork and even spoke with the insurance carrier to speed things up. We are so happy with everyone at the office. The doctor is busy the next three months so surgery is post poned but we were assured that his situation won't get worse. But worth the wait. Obviously if he is busy then the man does good work.
