Amina is a great seamstress. She is accurate with her sewing and timely on returning the items. I'd recommend her any day.

Nancy's Bridal Tailor - Store front of Nancy's Bridal and Tailor in Danbury, CT

    Nancy's Bridal Tailor

    (3 reviews)

This tailor's shop was recommended by Sabrina Style, a formal dress shop in Newtown, CT (where I…read morepurchased a prom dress for my 17 year old). It's a small shop and Nancy, the owner, was who we worked with. I think she has other seamstresses but I didn't see any when we were there. She prefers for you to make appointments and I would recommend that during prom season. It's a little run down inside which was slightly off putting since the dress we bought was quite expensive. There's an awkward curtained off small space to change in right next to the raised platform that my daughter was uncomfortable changing in. So why did we stay? Nancy. My grandmother was an impeccable seamstress, and though she would never have tolerated her shop to be so disheveled if she'd had one , Nancy had the same look about her as my grandmother when she sewed- slightly frazzled, pins in her mouth, pins on her blouse, with a pincushion on her wrist. She looked like she was working hard to get a lot done in a short amount of time. She looked competent and busy. She didn't give us an estimate. I can't remember if I even asked. She was doing us a favor to get it done quickly. When we came to pick it up on the due date, she was frantically steaming the dress- I think she had just finished it. My daughter put it on and the first thing I noticed was that she had added a hook and eye above the zipper. My grandmother told me that only really good seamstresses did that and it was a sign they did good work. She had added a tiny hook on the back of the dress for the train of the dress - called a bustle- so you can keep it from dragging when needed without having to hold it up. My daughter was upset by this because she thought it was too noticeable and had asked her not to put one. But I thought it was probably a good idea and she'd end up being glad she had it. She'd done beautiful work converting a size 6 dress to a size 2 teenager. She charged $140 which I thought was a bit pricey and was unexpected (no estimate), but she had done it quickly and well so we didn't complain. So it's a good place to go for formal dress alterations. I docked her a star just because the shop was dingy and need a good deep clean and paint job. But I'm sure it was that way because she's just so busy. Give her a try- you won't be dissatisfied with her work.

I asked someone where to go for alterations and they suggested Nancy's on Main in Danbury…read more They were supposed to be open at 10 am; I drove by at 10:42 am and they were closed. I came by later in the we day and they ladies were nice. It was Monday, the dress needed to be taken in on the sides only at the top (corset like top). There was no arm, shoulder or sleeve alterations needed since the dress has skinny straps. The event is on Thursday but I need the dress Wednesday night since I have an early hair appointment on Thursday I was told that the timing would nor be an issue and to come back at 6:00pm on Wednesday. I arrive at 5:50, one customer in front of me and then when she helps me, the big reveal is NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO THE DRESS. The puns are still in it.
