Waited about 20-30 minutes, then got a table right along the sidewalk next to the entrance. Beer for me, white wine for the wife, and then some tapas to share--gambas a la plancha, pimientos de padrón, calamares fritos, & alcachofas fritas. Everything was delicious, super fresh, and the highlight was for sure the artichokes. Fried perfectly. Service was also great. Food came out fast. Wine flowed. We liked the place so much, we returned a couple days later for breakfast. Hard to beat the view and vibes here.

Located right by the Valencia public market and a five minute walk from the cathedral, this place is great. I came here on my own and it was busy, but I found a table. The servers were all very friendly and accommodating. They have a wide selection of tapas, which are truly traditional and so good. They also offer full dinners / plates here too if you don't want tapas. But seriously, the tapas portions are generous and the best part is they are just the right size to order multiple different kinds of tapas to try. I ordered a Tinto de Verano (summer wine) to drink, which is more refreshing than regular sangria. It's a mix of red wine with Casera, which is a less sweet version of Sprite and a sweeter version of Perrier (so somewhere in between). It's GREAT. Definitely recommend.

Recently one afternoon the gods smiled on us and we scored a table here, and finally experienced why this little place is so popular. The setting in a small plaza under an olive tree is pleasant and lively, but the main draw is clearly the large selection of great tapas. We tried the croquettes, and they were delectable, in a portion so large we both decided to skip dinner. The service was friendly but a little distracted (possibly because the staff were rocking out to flamenco music), but we didn't mind (we enjoyed the music too). The prices were a bit on the high side, but then again, the portion we received was quite large. We both plan to sample some of El Olivo's other offerings soon. If you stop by you might notice a couple of people hovering around the place like vultures, hoping to score another table!

Happy we did too cuz one of the spots we were headed to ended up being closed for the day (COVID hours). We shared an order of the entrecot (cooked on the plancha and served with fries and padron peppers). Rare. And hey, Spanish places know how to cook something rare haha. They get a really good sear on the outside and the middle is red...like bright red. But it's delicious and so simple. This was really good stuff and the vermouth was on point. Hope to return.

But also being somewhat upscale they were a little more formal than obviously a casual place. Once seated we were told we had 2 hours to finish our meal which is a very long time for just two Americans eating. The only issue I have is that our food arrived amazingly fast I mean like maybe under 5 minutes post ordering. After that the staff kept coming by asking if they could clear my plate because I eat quite a bit faster than my companion, my wife. They asked me two to three maybe even four times if they could clear my plate which really was unwelcome since we had 2 hours to finish our meal. As I stated earlier the food was really really good if you check out my photos the atmosphere was really nice. I am an architect and can really appreciate nice design and configurations. I would gladly go back and run to recommend this place I do know my wife stated the same issue I outline regarding being rushed and they said that they would adjust it. I would gladly revisit the establishment and when we return back to the Valencia I plan on going there once again. I highly recommend it especially the steak that was very well cooked perfect for our desire which was rare.

It was explained that there was a reservation for those chairs in 90 minutes. We agreed we could dine in less time. We started with the house white wine. It was pleasant. It was my absolute favorite. I've been all over the world and have had lots of "blood pudding". This is by far the best. We finished with a cheese plate with 3 kinds. A flavourful plate. Not for wimps. It was accompanied by walnuts and candy. I spread some softer cheese on the rest of my bread. We had a very enjoyable experience. The staff was wonderful. 42 euro for 4 shared tapas, bread plate and 2 glasses of wine each. Nice vibe. Relaxing. Lots of decore to look at.
