I discovered this place by driving past it one day with my Mother in the car. She pointed out to it…read moreand mentioned that she used to go there when she was in high school. That means this place has been in existence for more than 40 years. That makes you stop and think. I needed to try this place, I needed to know HOW a pizza place could last for more than 40 years. I got my answer the moment I entered the place. The first thing you see when you enter is a big black beautiful wood oven. This thing has seen many years of service and it's still working its magic today. The rest of the place looks like it hasn't been upgraded for as long, but the secret has to be in the food, right? RIGHT! We had our pizzas packed and journeyed home. It was long drive, let me tell you. The smokey smell of the pizzas was amazing. When we finally bit into them we were not disappointed. The toppings were plentiful and the taste was an experience that only a good old fashioned wood oven could provide.

He can still be found stoking the wood oven there. Over the years I have eaten the pizza here many times and they are consistently a crowd pleaser. They have a good pick up deal for around 15 bucks but can do delivery as well.

I'm clearly not Italian but I have this thing where I like to pretend I am one of their people…read more Maybe its the anglo-sixth gen Aussie in me that is looking for some cultural substance in her life or the fact their philosophy on life=drinking, eating and..well... It was upon stepping into this modest looking deli with fluro lighting, 50s vinyl chairs and plastic tables, random cooking equipment scattered around and big, black and white pictures of beautiful Italians with "I love Napoli" written on them hanging on the wall that I felt like I had returned to a pizza shop from the mother land. Walk out through the kitchen to toilet at the back of the shop and you might trip on a bag of pizza flour on way but don't worry, the lino floors will protect your fall. Enough about the interior, that doesn't really matter. In traditional fashion, the star of the show is the hand made blackened pizza oven sitting in the middle of the shop serving up damn good WOG Pizza. We thought we'd be modest an just order one 12 inch Frutti di Mare (seafood) and a bottle of wine to share (funnily enough sipped out of those promo wine cups that you collect from various wine events and functions over the years). But after devouring this crispy based, sweet tomato sauce covered, melt in your mouth seafood pizza we decided we couldn't stop at one. The Truff Truff was next - a creamy, cheesy base of truffle oil, cheese, dried mediterranean herbs and more cheese. Forget manners, there's no forks or plates here and the owner really couldn't care less if you came in or not. He does what he loves and I think even if there were no customers in store he would be happy. The girls on the floor are friendly but really, who needs to make small talk when all you want to do is finish off 2 large pizzas in 30 minutes and then roll home?

(But ask for a salad and they'll make you one). Great beers and Italian wines (by the bottle only but you can take the rest home). This wonderful simple and charming little gem serves up fantastic wood oven pizzas and isn't trying to do anything else. Not salty or oily, with a very light airy wood oven crust topped with buffalo Di mozarella, prosciutto or whatever you like from the menu. And randomly in the back streets of Campbelltown (which isn't so bad not being on a main road as thru have a cool outdoor area out the front).

La Romana do a good, steady trade, always a sign of a decent pizza. They're quite a traditional…read moreitalian offering, lots of flavour, and although the pizza isn't overloaded with toppings you feel like you've got good value. Bases are crisp, hand made offerings. The star on the menu is probably the garlic prawn pizza, we've had it a few times, shared with some friends, and it's been a winner each time. Deliveries are available but I've always gone in for a pickup - definitely worth calling in advance as they can have quite long waiting times. I've tried their ribs, and pasta - the pizza is definitely my choice here - they're not bad for the other stuff, but I've had way better, too. P.S. They have on site parking, but it can get busy enough at peak hours that you may have to do the block to get a spot. There's some seats inside, but it's not really the kind of place you'll dine in.

99% of the time, La Romana are really good, so I'm focussing on that. The prices are reasonable,…read morethe delivery is usually on time (barring traffic, of course!), and the staff are polite and friendly. The food is good, too. Their garden salad is delicious, with plenty of dressing, which is a major plus--most other places just seem to scare the salad with dressing, so you can barely taste it. The ciabata garlic bread is also some of the best I've ever had, hot, crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and tasty. The pizzas are good too, and you can mix and match, make up your own, and customize as you see fit. They have a good range of desserts, their range of gelati which is locally made is delicious, especially the dark chocolate one!
