Mi Viejo is one of those places where you walk in thinking, "Let's just hope they have queso," and…read morewalk out thinking, "Well that was actually... pretty decent!" Food: The steak fajitas and Chimichanga Mexicana were both perfectly fine -- not life-changing, not flavorless. Just solid, no-frills Mexican food that does the job. The meat was seasoned well, which honestly makes up for a lot. Salsa: Now the salsa... I don't know what that was, but it tasted like it came from a can that lost a bet. Thin, flavorless, and a little sad -- like it wanted to be pico de gallo but ran out of ambition. Guacamole: I'm 90% sure it was squeezed from a tube and shaped like a sad little worm on the plate. It didn't taste bad exactly, but it definitely didn't taste like avocado either. It looked like it needed a hug and a better life. Beer: Major shoutout to the beer -- served in ice-cold mugs and at the perfect temperature. You'd be surprised how many places mess that up. Mi Viejo nailed it. I may not remember the salsa, but I'll remember that frosty mug like an old friend. Service: Fast, friendly, and no nonsense. Exactly what you want when you're just trying to eat your weight in chips. Ambiance: Cool vibe -- kind of a bourbon bar/sports bar hybrid. Lots of TVs with football on, dim lighting, and music at that perfect "I can still hear myself think" volume. Also, one cracked window, which was slightly concerning but added a little mystery to the place. (Like, what did happen there? A salsa revolt?) Value: Great bang for your buck. You won't need a loan to eat here, which is rare and beautiful these days. Final Thoughts: Is it the best Mexican food I've ever had? No. Is it the best Mexican food within a 30-mile radius of a Dollar General? Probably. Worth a stop if you're in town -- just skip the salsa, lower your guac expectations, and definitely get a beer.

We always have excellent food and exceptional service! I've never had a meal here less than stellar.read more

Great Food and Service but Payment and Billing System Needs an Update…read more (3.5 Stars ) Mi Viejo is one of the only good restaurants in the Carrollton area aside from the fast food restaurants in the area, Whenever I'm in the Carrollton area I eat here at least once. So far on my visits, the food has been great and the service has been pretty good too. The only issue I face is when I have to get an itemized receipt for business expenses. On my last visit, I asked for an itemized receipt right when I sat down and the server came over. The server assured me that he could do it as I have had this issue on all of my previous visits. Once I ate my delicious perfectly made meal, I again asked for an itemized receipt. The server disappeared for over ten minutes and I had to go to the counter. At the counter they gave me a tiny receipt to show I paid and tipped but no itemized receipt. Again the person at the counter disappeared for another ten minutes as I guess they thought I would just go away. Finally, a manager came out and redid my whole bill and gave me a printed receipt with separate charges for what I ordered but no item description. I guess this is the best that they can do. I do recommend they modernize their POS as since there are several industries in the area, I can't be the only person who has to submit receipts for business expenses. Aside from these ongoing issues, the food is always on point and servers do the best they can.

We chose El Jalisco because it was close to our hotel and my mom was craving Mexican food…read more I'll start by saying that I live in California and eat Mexican food pretty regularly, so I may have higher expectations than some. The restaurant itself is bright and colorful, with vibrant tables, chairs, and decorations throughout. It definitely has a fun atmosphere. I ordered the chicken fajitas with corn tortillas, and my mom ordered what she thought was a simple cheese enchilada with a side of rice and beans. Somehow there was a communication mix-up because she ended up with three large plates: one piled with rice, one piled with beans, and a third with the enchilada. It gave us a good laugh. My fajitas looked great when they arrived, but unfortunately they were missing the one thing I was hoping for: flavor. The chicken and vegetables were cooked properly, but there didn't seem to be much seasoning at all. Not even enough salt to bring everything together. The corn tortillas were also torn apart when they arrived, so they weren't very usable. I hate leaving negative reviews, but the food simply didn't live up to expectations. The service was fine and the atmosphere was fun, but the meal itself fell flat for me. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing, but based on this visit, I wouldn't choose to return.

Chips are standard and hiuse salsa is underwhelming. Ask for the spicy - that has a proper jalapeño punch to it. Well worth the sweat beads on your forehead. Wife and I got enchiladas - beef and cheese - and the wee ones got beef tacos. So here's my review: the food is 3-stars, the service 5-stars, and the potential is solid 4-stars. While the enchilada sauce was very good, the Kroger-esque ground beef was meh. The cheese enchiladas were very good, but mozzarella cheese on the tacos was just ... not Mexican. Post-COVID, restaurants like this are paying premium food costs for sub par products, so I get it. Charge more, reduce portions, expect patience from clients until this reopening evens out. I see this place rising above its remote, out-of-downtown Bardstown location if it survives 2021. We'd like to come back here, but I hope they add some Vicente Fernandez or Los Bukis on the speakers, and lose the honky salsa. We'd gladly pay more than these rock bottom prices if it kept a good Mex place open. I like Mi Lindo. I hope i like it better next month when we try it again.

I travel all over the state and I've been to 20+ taquerias in the last year, and I can confidently say that these are far and away the best tacos in Kentucky and even beating any and all spots in the Cincinnati metro area. The meats, the salsa, the tortillas, everything is better. On my deathbed, I want nothing more than a plate of these tacos. I can't think of a single thing that would make them better. They have such a large menu, but I may never know what all of that tastes like because I will get tacos every single time. They have a brick and mortar restaurant in Ghent worth checking out too. It's 99% as good, but the tacos here just taste slightly better. I'll probably transition to the one in Ghent for the winter. Here it's always nice to sit on the picnic tables and enjoy the fresh air. In summary, try these and you won't want any other tacos in your life.
