    Number 10 - Blacklight bowling :)

Number 10 is located in the Romford Brewery which makes it really convenient for parking, eating,…read moredrinking & laughing at the age old pastime of bowling. Is anyone really very skilled at bowling? In some sports, the older you get = the better and more skilled you get... in the case of bowling, the older you get = the more you goof off and drink up which is actually perfectly convenient here because of the large, fully stocked bar area. Bowling at Number 10 is a multifaceted event applicable to family fun, a great kids party, a preteen flirt fest or an adult's drinking game so Number 10 can be filled with a variety of different people on different agendas which I think adds to the charm. They have bowling specials like "buy 2 games get one free", the ever popular Blacklight Bowling and there are special discounts during certain hours on odd days. My best advice would be to check the website before you go~ there might be a coupon! All the screens are bright & modern and there are lane bumpers and ball slides available for those novice bowlers not confident in their follow through. Also, if you decide to forgo the challenge altogether, there are many arcade games to enjoy, no dance floor but a good mix of music playing and always some sort of sport viewable on the TVs in the bar area. One of the best features I find is the security at the door. The guard does not allow great big groups of youngins to come and loiter around without adult supervision. I know that makes me sound like a mean old lady but that's a risk I'm willing to take because I loath anarchy and they are usually the culprits. Definitely a great way to fill a few hours with friends, family or for a fun birthday idea!

The Kingpin Suite provides exactly that and I had such a great night here. I hired the venue for a work event so we had sole use for the evening but on most nights it is open to the public (you will need to book ahead). The food was great and very American style with mini burgers, hot dogs, pizzas and canapes. The bowling lanes are great fun and the karaoke room is sound proof meaning that it does not disturb the live music in the main room. The karaoke system is also of a high quality and has the largest collection of songs I have ever seen! There is also a hot tub which seems like a bit of an unusual addition - I didn't try that one out! The bar staff are friendly and at around £3.50 for a glass of wine the prices are reasonable. The venue is actually very difficult to find however as is also located in the same building as the Bloomsbury Lanes so it can get quite confusing when trying to locate the place. Kelly dealt with my booking and was fantastic - she made the day run as smoothly as possible and everyone had a great time. This would make a great venue for a Christmas Party.

Besides bowling there is karaoke, ping pong, foosball, good sound system and a surprisingly good bar. Good was great and as I mentioned the staff was fantastic.

The arena was awesome, spacious and no frills laser tag gaming. Set inside an arcade with bowling, pool and junk food stalls. No illusions about this place, it's full of screaming kids on a weekend but the laser tag was monumentally ace. Well worth the trip if there is a big group of you wanting to save a bit of cash.

Our time was only spent in the indoor soft play area, so if you're looking for a review of the lazer tag, bowling, or game arcade, you'll have to wait for some other Yelper to get to the Big Apple. In general, the play area was fun, for him, but there were a number of items that I found less than ideal. 1. Heat! It was so damned hot in the play area, we were all sweating. Now this was a party with 18 families, so it appeared it was nowhere near it's capacity, but still, everyone, without exception, complained about the lack of ventilation. 2. Disrepair. Mostly, things were in pretty good shape, but a number of things were kind of jerry-rigged with zip ties and duct tape. No single thing caused me great concern, but the sheer quantity of places where I saw these things made me wonder if a little more rigorous maintenance wasn't in order. I'm sure the wear and tear on such play things is massive, but for the amount they charge, I expected more quality to be honest. 3. Non-slidey slides. The biggest coolest-looking slide was, in fact, a dud! There's a slide that goes from the upper level of the play area down to the bottom where the parents were generally hanging out. This makes a total descent of some 4-5 meters. How cool is that??? Not much, it turns out. Kids were constantly having to scoot themselves down. One lucky parent was wearing the right fabric to make her slide down well, but everyone else was forced to self-propel. 4. I don't mark down for this, but the food served to the kiddies was the usual breaded-fried-potato-waste-on-a-stick. De regueur for such party places, they won no stars in our book because none of it met our child's dietary requirements (gluten-free). We never expect this, though, and always bring our own. My wife and I found ourselves the inevitable schadenfreude when we realized that our child's meal was way healthier than any of the other children! Looking at the heat, and the disrepair, I can't imagine a full-capacity weekend, where there are wall-to-wall kids.
