What a beautiful day today especially when after church..me and my honey have a great Lunch @ the America's House! We were craving for yummy Pupusas so we drive there to San Mateo from San Francisco! We have been here before..and this place NEVER DISAPPOINT! Upon reading other comments on Yelp..it's a hit or miss for some people and I get it! It's your personal opinion..well respected! :) As for my experience today..from going inside to being serviced by two awesome staff there like Saul and Yesenia was very pleasant to us! :)) We appreciated great customer service and it makes a big difference when you're greeted with love and smiles!!! The people who work there are very nice hard workers! Thank you guys!! :)) We noticed a lot of people eating there! It was a pretty full house today which is a great sign for us and for them I'm sure! Saul took our orders! My honey got the Combo 2 Pupusas..one cheese(that one was actually ordered for me for later!) I got the 2 Pupusas..chicken and pork with yummy rice and refried beans!! Both were delicious but the pork was more flavorful to me! Love..love the Cabbage slaw and red sauce! I really glad it wasn't spicy too! Lol!! :} We had our own drinks coz we're trying not to drink too much sodas! Everything was sooo GOOD! It was a perfect meal and being full with happy tummies feels GREAT!!! A year after trying this place out and it's still great. I normally go during lunch time and there's always a place to sit. Saul always provides great customer service and makes really good Micheladas. The pupusas still taste great every time I go and I highly recommend. They serve Breakfast, Mexican food, Salvadoran food, and Seafood. I want to try other foods, but I just really enjoy their pupusas. Check this place out, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. read more

How is recommended this place for the food which I believe is very good. The food Does have the zest and tastefulness of the meals. . Sadly they only have one cook who is trying to make all the meals and as it gets more and more popular it is quite a desperate call for help inside the kitchen. I would highly recommend an additional help. Not only in the kitchen but outside with the waiter who is also trying to manage all the incoming parties. I gave it a four stars because the food merits, but it is greatly needed to have additional help to continue its popularity. I hope this is helpful for those who read this and know that the time there may be a little longer than expected, but once you have your meals it is worth it again. Salsa a bit watery Weird that burrito comes with steak fries Papusas were pretty good the chicken was good but the pork didn't seem like it had much in it other than cheese Chicken Tamales were good and moist if eaten right away otherwise it starts to get dry but still flavorful The empanadas were interesting, more cooked than pic so charred a little which is fine, mainly tastes of plantains. One of my favorite break fast spots. I usually will get one of their omelettes which is always amazing whichever one you get. I did however also have the papusas which are delicious too!! Decent prices, has all types of food Mexican, Italian , American. There are also nail salons, dry cleaners, grocery store, pizza place, & other stores located near the restaurant too. I LOVE America's House....or I used too. They changed owners and I met him while ordering. Super cool dude! But, we noticed the quality went down. We gave it a few months and the quality went back up. Now their hours are sporadic. I can't tell when they are open. Twice now their posted hours are not correct. Tonight we ordered via Yelp/Grubhub. It said it was open and accepted our payment. My wife went to pick it up and they were closed (on a Tuesday). I had to call Grubhub and get a refund. This place use to be a good spot. The food is definitely different then it was 6-7 years ago (their pupusas were fire back then), back when I was a regular. Their pupusas now are horrible, No flavor. I went here long before the pandemic and it sucked then. I thought I'd try again and they still suck. And they charge way too much for the quality of food they provide. I can probably make better pupusas at home in my underwear, completely stoned out of my mind while watching YouTube for step by step vids. Just saying. OH! I love America's House. It's a funky restaurant known for the homemade pupusas, but the rest of the food is just as good. They have food from all over the world on their menu and everything is huge! We have never left here disappointed. The only reason this yummy restaurant gets one less star is because it's always a little too warm inside the restaurant. But never fear! They have a few tables outside where you can sit and watch the drunks stumble out of the bar across the street. TIP: Try the Molcajete, but be prepared - it's so large you'll have to split it with a friend. read more

We tried the shrimp and crab salad excellent I must say excess with the meat of shrimp and crab literally more meat then salad... "excellent" in a demeanor like mr burns would say from the simpsons. I found this place on Yelp and with all those great views, I thought, got to try this place out. Service is extremely friendly, she checked on us regularly and always had a smile on her face, she made us feel like she was happy that we were there. The chips and salsa were delicious. I ordered the chicken and cheese pupusas which was probably one of the best I have ever had. I also ordered a tamal and fried bananas which were okay. This place is actually called, America's House but also has a sign saying Armando's Restaurant. Kinda schizo? You bet, This place is eclectic in a number of ways 1. The menu has Italian entrees, sandwiches. burgers, breakfast, Mexican, and Salvadorean (which is what drew me in the first place). 2. The decor has still life paintings, a French themed clock, Italian Cafe wire reliefs, an ATM in the middle of the room, a toy machine where you pick them up with an overhead gripper, and a picture of a redneck outfitted fish named "Bubba Bass" 3. The crowd has some people who I'm sure grew up during the Great Depression, Mexican locals, office workers, and of course us! It was crazy weird let me tell you. However the Chicharron Pupusas were awesome and sized almost as large as a 45 record. Two of these puppies were sizable and really tasty. I also got a Salvadorean Tamal with chicken, potatoes, green beans, peppers, in a light masa. Pretty damn tasty for such a wacky place. As we were eating I finally caught the specials board where they were listing shrimp scampi, BBQ Pork Ribs, and their "famous" burger. Hmm not sure Im set to try the other stuff but the Salvadorean/Mexican stuff is solid. There's Univison playing on one of the flat screens and midway through the meal, Mexican music started blaring. This is my go to place for pupusas. They are so friendly and it's super easy to place a togo order over the phone. I have placed small orders and larger ones for a party. They make their pupusas fresh by hand and grill them right there in front of the pick up window. I love that they always include the cabbage and salsa with the orders (Which other restaurants have forgotten to provide and it ruins the meal). Their customer service is great. For Covid, they have an outside pickup window you walk right up to to pay and pick up your order. Love this place! read more

This review is based on two different occasions. The first one was a dine in and the second one a take out order. I have only tried the pupusas at this place, and let me tell you that they are really good. Each pupusa is $3 and they are really big with lots of inside meat,cheese and beans. We have tried both maíz and arroz pupusas and they did not disappoint. What I really like about this pupusas is that they do not feel as greasy as other places. The cabbage and salsa were good and complimented the pupusas well. The service here was good, the ladies were attentive and friendly. They have quite few tables and the kitchen is big. We did not wait too long for service and food when we ate there. I ordered some pupusas the next time and they told me it would take about 15 mins to be ready. I arrived a bit earlier than 15 so I had to wait but it was no longer than 20 mins total from the moment I place the order. The employees were nice and the food was good. They have Mexican and Salvadorian Food. (2.5 stars) This review is just for the America's 1/2 lb Burger. I was really curious how they would do when I wasn't ordering a pupusa. Turns out, not so well as I'd hoped. Pros: Huge burger with fresh toppings, including 2 slices of cheese, avocado and bacon and a thick slice of tomato. Offered with fries, salad and soup. Chose a salad. Cons: Patty was overdone, dry and not very tasty (Requested medium), the cheese was hardly melted, and the bun was not very fresh. Sometimes you should not look a gift horse in the mouth. And I did that today, deciding to choose something other than their wonderful pupusas that I've had at each visit here before. Maybe that's like ordering a Prime Rib in a Chinese restaurant or Beef Chow Fun at a Steakhouse. Don't do it. The burger was not the worst I've had, but it was far from the best and it took a decent amount of time to get to me, which is maybe why the burger's cheese did not melt. Service was really nice and I still like this place (just not for burgers). Back to having their yummy pupusas. read more
