The manager was not here when we arrived at 5:00 pm and was unavailable by phone. It would have been nice to be able to talk to someone because this is kind of a remote area, no cell service and the wifi didn't work, so how could we know what's available around here? There were ants everywhere in the room, though I'm sure that's not normal for this place. The yard was nice (though showing some neglect), but we weren't sure where it was ok to sit and relax because -- again -- the management wasn't available. The ice machine was broken. TL/DR: Potentially nice, but for the money we've stayed in much better historic hotels on our route.

The outside is constructed of native stone and has been kept intact. The owners added a fountain centerpiece that complements the rest of the stone structure. Near the road, a replica of the original neon sign stands as a beacon for the Route 66 traveler. The lobby is also impressive. The front desk incorporates some of the motifs that are found in the original stonework outside. Approaching the Neon Room, the first thing I noticed was the glow-in-the-dark neon paint labeled number 1. The inside reminded me of a room you'd find at a boutique hotel. The centerpiece is Reddy Kilowatt, an American cartoon character. He lights up and yes, it's real neon. On the ceiling above the king bed is a neon rocket. There's a partial glass block divider has multi-colored lighting around it that completes the room's overall glow. In addition, the vanity mirror has adjustable lighting. I preferred the soft, golden yellow light. Next to the bed is a mirrored nightstand with jewel-like sparkles. The lamp and coaster match the nightstand perfectly. I found the sound muffler/masking machine useful. I chose the waterfall setting to help me fall asleep. The bed and pillows are extremely comfortable. The blue velvet curtains help darken the room so you can see the neon lighting better even during the daylight hours. There's plenty of closet space. The bathroom shower is completely tiled. There is no bathtub. Visitors should also be aware there is no microwave in the neon room. It does have a small refrigerator as well as a Keurig coffee maker with flavored and regular coffee. There are hundreds of other details I've left out about the motel. My review doesn't do it justice. It's one of those places you have to experience for yourself. I highly recommend staying there.

I have a four-year-old and a two-year-old so it didn't seem really feasible to bring them and my husband definitely didn't want me to leave them. I decided this was the year we would travel. Our majority of travel is to different Disney resorts, so we are pretty well-versed in hotel rooms. This beats them hands down. First, this place is VERY family friendly. We stayed in a Boxcar room and it was perfect. There was a bedroom separate from a living room. In the living room there was a small kitchen that even had a dishwasher and microwave. I realized in our room they even had children's plates and utensils that were unbreakable. Can I point out how rare it is for a room to have a microwave? Mini fridge, yes, but I always found it ridiculous that I could easily keep my food cold, but can't heat it up. I loved having a microwave. The tv connects to Disney plus, Netflix and Hulu. Disney plus was all we needed to keep our kids happy. The AC was easily adjustable and there was one in the front room and the bedroom. Then let's talk about the Landing Hub itself. It is super cute and you can tell the owners poured love into it. There are little booklets everywhere that tell you about the decor and the meaning behind it. In the main communal area there is a pool table, ping pong and tons of trucks/legos. We spent over an hour with the boys playing with the toys every morning. They threw a fit when we made the leave to go to the zoo and Cardinals game on different days. It was pretty relaxing just sitting enjoying coffee while they played around our feet. They're pretty rambunctious kids so having all that space was very helpful. The Landing Hub also has a table with information about nearby attractions. My kids love Monster Trucks so thanks to the table (and information from the owner) we learned that Bigfoot is less than 10 minutes away! We stopped by on our last day and met the driver. That was a fun surprise. My son says that was his favorite part of the trip. We were here for a wedding, which was a ton of fun. We knew everyone we ran into was there for the wedding so it was like one big family reunion. I didn't really know anyone other than the bride, since we are friends from over 10 years ago, so it was great knowing immediately that anyone I ran into was there for the wedding. That was such a fun part of the wedding. Then the wedding itself was beautiful. They set up the ceremony on the patio and the reception was both inside the communal area and outside. This place is only 35 minutes from tons of fun kids things like the STL zoo, Grants Farm, Magic House and the Science Center. I did look up hotel rooms in the city to try to decide if we wanted to stay downtown some nights. A double queen was comparable in price to the suite we got (with much less space) and downtown you have to pay for parking. Although driving in I was a little nervous, I felt very safe the entire time we were here. The only downside is there aren't many food places close by, but we would grab food when we were in STL and bring it back, since it was so easy to refrigerate and heat back up. The owner is super nice. She gave my kids some Bigfoot memorabilia (which I think has now started their obsession with Bigfoot). I love supporting small businesses. If you're thinking about staying here, just do it. You won't regret it. It's also super clean. The owner loves checklists (I saw her checklists all over the place) and the one for cleaning is super comprehensive. Seriously cleaner than my house even.

The on site store is nicely stocked and very clean. The pool area looked clean and well maintained although we didn't use it. The park is very shaded and well laid out even though the sites are very close together. The shower house by the playground was clean if very spare in amenities. Good water pressure and very hot water. The multi spray shower head worked well. However- the shower curtains in the men's shower are not wide enough to keep the water from the shower from splashing all the way to the doorway and soaking your dry towel and clothes on the provided bench. One of them was a full 5 inches from the wall. There is no shelf in the shower area. The main problem we had was the website clearly shows cooking grates at the sites. So $75 in meat was brought to grill and they only had a fire pit at the site. So s trip to another town and $65 for a charcoal grill and dinner finally happened 3 hours late.

The four of us are in our 60s, we aren't young kids that play music really super loud. There was no on either side of us. Nor behind us it was a big open field. The manager Loretta over to our site guns a blazing telling us that we to turn the music down that she was getting a bunch of complaints actually the band was still breaking down and the food truck just left and we were having a conversation so there's no way that the music was loud. My husband jokingly said well as soon as you leave, we'll just turn it back up lol even meeting this couple for the very first time they knew that he was joking as I did also. she told us that we should pack up and leave right then and there, knowing that we were drinking alcoholic beverages all day. Who does that kind of stuff nobody I know. I would never allow anybody to leave my home after drinking all day. She tried to come and talk to me the next day, but she has a hair up her ass for my husband. She always seems to have something to bitch about and we spend a lot of money there. we will never go back there. Also, the place is a mess. There was an inch and a half of water in the bathrooms by the pool. The pool was so scummy and disgusting. And if she thinks we were making loud noise, try going to playground at 11:30 at night when there's a bunch of kids running around and screaming and playing until their parents decide to go and tell to come in. 1130 at night kids at a playground. Yet she has to yell at 60 year old people for having a radio on please. Loretta is disrespectful talks bad about her other employees which she can't keep anybody there they quit and they talk bad about her too. We will never go there again, and I would never advise my worst enemy to go there. We were also told by an employee that 90 percent of the people that are there live there! And you can tell... rusted out campers, clothes hanging outside, toys in their yards. what a dump!

We booked the Charming Camper which had two full size beds big enough for two adults and two kids. It had a beautiful outdoor patio, air conditioning, and close proximity to the lake, outdoor showers, and sauna. They have everything that you need with open use canoes/kayaks and an activity shed with floaties, fishing poles, bikes, scooters, and games. They also have a shared kitchen for campers that includes a full size fridge and grill. We had so much fun at an affordable price and will definitely be back!
