Driving Route 66 alone and getting stressed out about the darkness coming and after dealing with…read morerain all day... I stumbled apon this charming little motel and was overwhelmed with the charm of the owners and the details and effort they put in to make a stay there enjoyable!! Absolutely would recommend a thousand million times!!!

Step Back in Time at the Sunset Motel - Classic Charm with Modern Touches…read more The Sunset Motel on Route 66 is a true step back in time--in the best way possible. From the paneling and vintage furniture to the mid-century artwork, the entire place feels like a well-preserved piece of Americana. It's clear the owners take great pride in maintaining the property and providing guests with a welcoming, nostalgic experience. Though it's just 650 feet from the interstate, we didn't hear any road noise at night--a pleasant surprise. While we weren't traveling with pets, the motel is clearly pet-friendly, with a nicely kept grassy area for pet relief. The pet fee is also very reasonable at just $15. Our main challenge was the lack of accessible power outlets in the room. As someone who uses a CPAP and travels with other electronic devices, this made things a bit tricky. The continental breakfast came in a charming little bag and included a bran muffin and two oranges. There's a coffee maker in the room, which was appreciated, but don't expect a full breakfast spread. The beds were very firm--in our opinion, too firm for a comfortable night's sleep. That might work for some, but it's something to be aware of if you prefer softer bedding. EV travelers should know that the Tesla charger onsite is owned and operated by Tesla, not the motel. The staff doesn't have much information about it. There are two units, both with J1772 adapters, and they appear identical to Tesla destination chargers. I charged at 11 amps to avoid idle fees and was pleased to see no charges after about 10 minutes post-charge. The cost was $0.36/kWh--about half the price of the Francis Energy Superchargers in the area. All in all, the Sunset Motel offers a unique and memorable stay for travelers who appreciate a retro vibe, friendly service, and a touch of Route 66 history.

After driving through the nightmare of Albuquerque , New Mexico at night I made it to Edgewood…read more This is the only hotel in town , but it looked better and had better reviews than the next town , Moriarty. I booked using Priceline to save a couple bucks and it was still $152 with taxes and fees. Some of the reviews of the Moriarty places stated about their cars being broken into , so I paid the extra to stay here because my SUV was loaded with my stuff and I had a hitch box on my rear bumper because I was moving from Las Vegas to Oklahoma. The employee that checked me in was very nice and he told me to park by the charging area under the solar panels with the RVs to be the safest area and well lit. There was one RV parked there , but in the morning there was 2 more , one with a boat. I had free breakfast in the morning with a few others and they had an older lady attendant that was making sure everything was stocked up and clean. Nice lady. It was funny the guys behind me mentioned how the eggs tasted like from the Army and me being a Veteran told them I agreed , they tasted like the reconstituted ones we had during maneuvers. The sausage patty was pretty plain so I put some pancake syrup on it , orange juice was watered down , biscuit was pretty good but gravy had some sausage bits but not very flavorful so lots of pepper I had to put on it. They had cereal and yogurt too and a waffle maker. There is also a coffee machine in the lobby 24 hours a day and also have hot tea. There was 2 or 3 computers for guests to use. I used that night for about 15 minutes for something I really couldn't do on my phone which was convenient. The parking lot was clean and well lit and appeared to be in a safe area. I went to the Subway just next door for a sandwich that night and they give you a discount for staying at the hotel , but it was the worst stale Subway sandwich I've ever had ! Now the room , first thing when I walked in the floor was sticky. It looked clean , but they must have mopped over a spilled soda or something. Other than that the beds were clean and made nice and the room looked like a Comfort Inn room with 2 queen beds , mini refrigerator , microwave , coffee pot with coffee and accessories. I got a regular room not a Suite so no couch or living room , but there was a chair. The next morning I took a shower and on the wall in 2 different places was a long black hair , way longer than mine and mine are unfortunately gray , but at 58 I still got more hair than guys I work with that are in there 30's ha ha. The rest of the bathroom was clean and came with some amenities. On the wall of the shower they have mounted body wash , shampoo , and conditioner that were a mint smell. Not bad , but not what I would pick , but hey I'm just traveling. I was on the 2nd floor and the elevator worked , but was a little shaky. All in all it's a pretty decent hotel , but I don't think it's worth $150.00 to stay here. I would say it should be around half the price , $75.00 a night. As I said the only reason I paid this was because I didn't feel safe staying in Moriarty with my vehicle loaded. They also have an indoor pool which I didn't use. I only stayed the one night and then back on the road.

We have stayed here several times before traveling between Nevada and Oklahoma. It is nice to stay…read morehere on the way out because it is away from Albuquerque enough to beat rush-hour traffic in the morning. It's basically a safe place to stay. On this trip we were not too pleased. First of all when when we arrived in our room the temperature was 48°. Inside our room! The air conditioner had been removed so many times and repaired that there was no insulation at all on the wall. Wind was blowing through our room. We did use the heater and things were fine after it finally warmed up. Our bed was stained in several spots, one at the end of the bed was definitely blood. We could only use cold water in our sink. They hung a mirror above it that would not allow the hot to turn on. See my photo. The bathtub was also very dirty inside. Parts of the hardware in the shower had what felt like barnacles all over it. Our room did not have a microwave or a refrigerator but did have the cart for them. I'm generally not picky and just want comfortable bed and a safe place to sleep. I felt safe here, but my bed was like sleeping on a stack of bricks. Extremely uncomfortable my husband and I both woke up sore the following day.

I would like to give this business a negative. The desk clerk, whoever she is, (on duty at noon on…read moreMarch 17, 2025) is truly from the dregs of society. I, in a wheel chair, & with reservations with early check in, was exceedingly rude. She is definitely costing that company money. I'm 85 years old, in a wheelchair, and was treated like sh*t. I went a short distance East to Super 8, and was treated like royalty by every member of the staff.
