Family was visiting town before the holidays, so we drove down for a quick meet and greet…read more The hotel lobby was suitably arrayed in Christmas garb, but we eschewed the glittery red / gold / green, and opted instead for coffee and breakfast on the beach. Service was good, food was good, and the view was great (even if the sea breeze was a bit chilly).

I came to south Florida because I had the horrible event of burying my Mother. Having to go with…read moreall of my emotions and then had to deal with the errors in my stay. When we came to the Beachcomber I was beyond disappointed with this "resort". "Resort" is a very Lise term. I booked and paid for my stay on line. And the end result was "Total with taxes and fees" of which I paid in full. I was informed there would be a $10 additional fee per day for parking. Ok, I understood that and I was told that ahead of time. When I got here they added an additional $45.20 PER DAY for resort fees. That was not mentioned anywhere. My TOTAL with "taxes and FEES" did not turn out to be the total. They gave me a piece of paper to sign so they could have an additional $135 for my 3 day stay. The Manager Aaron was completely disrespectful. He blamed the 3rd party vendor Expedia, for not disclosing that. They allow Expedia. It is their job to make sure their customers are given the correct information. He had me go through my receipts and email confirmations that I received to show me the "resort fees" were shown to be an addition. It wasn't. So now what? My confirmation showing "Total taxes and fees" should be the total unless otherwise explained, like the $10 parking fee. So, Aaron would have been gloating if there was a statement on my receipt stating additional fees but it wasn't there. He refused to honor my receipt. So then I see on the paperwork they gave me, showing it was a King bed. I requested 2 doubles. I said I requested 2 doubles and he waved the paper in my face and said, "See, it says King". I then had to show him my paperwork showing 2 double beds. All I got the was "Oh they must have made a mistake" who is "they"? Surely not Beachcomber. My hands were tied. I have my Mother's burial in the morning and I did not have the emotion energy to find another place. Although faced with the room issue coming up, I should have. I specified a balcony. Would be nice to have a view of some kind. So where does sweet Aaron put me? On the first floor with a balcony alright. A balcony that sits on the ground, next to the pool "entrance" with screaming kids, I can not open my windows because of people passing by a staring in my room. HORRIBLE. As I am right now writing this in my ground level "balcony" room I am crying. Too many emotions building up. Aaron you should be ashamed of yourself for treating a customer like that. I actually just noticed another reviewer had a similar experience with not disclosing the additional "fees". Gee, Aaron stated he would get in touch with Expedia for "their" mistake and get it straightened out. If Aaron or any staff in charge would actually read their reviews, they would see a pattern. But I guess Beachcomber doesn't care about their reviews with dissatisfied customers.

I've waited 6 months to write this review, mainly because I do not like to write negative reviews…read more But I feel compelled to write it because it started our vacation off in a very stressful manner. I wanted to hire a service to pick us up from the airport because we had never been to Fort Lauderdale and were not familiar with the area. We landed and after getting our luggage, I immediately contacted the driver. Only then was I told that our driver would not be meeting us in the baggage claim area, which is what I specifically requested. Looking back at our emails, I missed where the pickup was pointed out in the email, it's my fault that I didn't understand we would not be met in the baggage claim area, so that's on me. But I should have addressed it before our trip. I spoke with the driver, who had a very heavy accent and I had a lot of difficulty understanding him, which he sounded very annoyed about. He told us he could not pick us up in front of the arrival area and we had to go to the right at the end of the terminal. All we saw at the end of the terminal was an unlit area. This is exactly what I wanted to avoid. The pickup area had very little light. But we proceeded forward, picked a spot and I called the driver again. When he showed up and saw my mobility scooter, it seemed to make him very mad. I had specifically requested a van, just to accommodate our luggage and my scooter, and I had communicated to Jiffy Jeff I had a scooter. He was very rude and irritated and kept saying it was not going to fit (keep in mind, it was a VAN). It took me several minutes to explain that we could take the scooter apart to get it in the van. Finally, after I started disassembling my scooter, and he begrudgingly help load the parts in the van. As two women, I did not like getting into a van with a man who was visibly angry, but we did. My sister and I were very uncomfortable. On the drive, I tried asking him questions about the area, for example, "is that downtown Fort Lauderdale?" And he said "That's not where we're going." I said, "I understand, but I just want to know if that is downtown." Again he snapped at me saying "that's not where we're going." We spent $160 (including the $30 tip we we begrudgingly gave him) to go from Fort Lauderdale Airport to the Hilton by the cruise port, which is 4 miles and about a 15 minute drive. It was NOT worth it. Needless to say, I will NOT be using this company again and will just take an Uber XL.
