My one star is for customer service. I made an appointment for a tux fitting for my son. I provided the date of the prom and was told no problem. When he arrived for his appointment he was asked if there to pick up or if he had an appointment. He said appointment and then was turned away and told that there was nothing available to rent. When I called to express my disappointment and frustration that he was turned away even with an appointment, the owner blamed it on my son and said he must not have said he had an appointment. They never turn anyone away with an appointment. This was said I don't know how many times. This is untrue. My husband even called in advance to ask if a parent needed to come to his son's 3:30 appointment. Own the mistake. Own it. read more

First off the tuxes are extremely overpriced for what we are getting. Was charged $250 for a tuxedo I was only able to keep for less than 24hours which in my opinion you can buy a suit for less than that. Also the quality of the materials is subpar. The fabric felt cheap, the shirt was dingy and the shoes were beat up. She also didn't give me enough studs for my tuxedo shirt. Most importantly though was the fit. I wasn't told until the day of that we couldn't alter the tuxedo. I am an athletic built man in my mid twenties and I like a tailored look to my suits. They don't have to be tight but I don't like a lot of extra fabric. The pants I put on were big enough to fit both legs inside of one pant leg and the lady told me there was nothing I could do about it. The shirt fit like a bedsheet and wasn't even a true French cuff tuxedo shirt. I would never recommend them and would never go back. Way too expensive for the lack of quality and lack of customization. read more

12/3 Update: The owner of American Tuxedo reached out to me to understand where they could have done better and immediately issued a partial refund. Bumped up to 4 stars. ++ STOP! If you are special ordering a rental suit/tux be warned!! Let me explain... I needed a tux for my upcoming wedding and did a little research. American Tuxedo stood out and they had good reviews. I went in to get measured and to determine if I should go with a rental or buy something because I was concerned with fit. I am 6' 3" and 200lbs, wide shoulders, long arms, lean build. The lady I worked with mentioned rentals are never 100% but she would measure me and put me in some jackets they had in stock, similar to the special order rental. The test jacket and pants I tried fit great so I decided to pull the trigger on the special order rental suit. They said it would be in Wed/Thu before my wedding which was Sat. They said they'd call and I could come in for the actual fitting of my rental suit. Unfortunately they couldn't accommodate earlier in the week. So I agreed to 2-3 days buffer before the wedding. Week of I followed up with American Tuxedo Wed and Thu. It wasn't until Thu evening that the suit came in. So I wasn't able to go in to get fitted until Friday. The day before the wedding!! This made me nervous but I trusted them and thought I had a good sense since the test jacket and pants fit well. I show up on Friday for the fitting and the suit looks nice for a rental hanging on its rack. I'm pleased. Then I put everything on and the pants are a bit baggy, the vest is too big and the jacket is way too big while the sleeves are too short! I understood the rentals are not going to be perfect, but this was no where near what the test jacket was like!! They were able to adjust the sleeves, but could do nothing about the bagginess in the mid-section of my vest or jacket. I would have had options if the fitting happened a day or two later as initially promised. BUT I was stuck Friday afternoon, getting married Sat. One of the seamstresses suggested I use one of those big metal clasps, used to hold a stack of paper together, to tighten up my suit jacket from the back during pictures! She said that's how they get the suit fitment to look so good in the rental catalogue... In the end I made due, but it was not ideal and I would never recommend American Tuxedo. read more

They carry a great selection (over 4,000 styles), including Calvin Klein (super-sharp all-black shirt with black jackets and ties), Oscar de la Renta, FUBU, Geoffrey Beene, Ecko, After Six, and more. Bridal parties with six paid tux rentals can get the seventh rental free. And, brides, they offer wedding gown preservation as well. read more

Wow! Tremendous service. In the middle of prom season and I took a chance on getting a tux for a fundraiser. Came in 20 minutes before closing on a Wednesday before the weekend event. Left in an hour WITH the perfect tux and accessories - the team was accommodating and attentive. They stayed open an extra hour or more to help other families coming in to fit for proms. East Memphis location. Rude employees; 2 employees, older heavy set man and a heavy set woman. First time customer to get nephew prom tux; wouldn't dare go back. Employees were rude esp. The older man made rude comments to nephew such as "you can't sag these pants." When asked how much it would cost to buy tux wouldn't tell us until asked the third time as if we couldn't afford to buy. When my nephew asked about certain tuxes he would say they were not available unless you buy and another employee would contradict him. He rushed us. Clearly didn't want to be bothered. Offered no help; gave us the catalog and was like here. Me and husband are getting vows renewed. This place is not even an option. Nice tuxes but intolerable employees. read more

Do not recommend. Very disorganized, measured my jacket incorrectly, then gave a smart aleck response when I pointed out I couldn't move my arms. Gave me the wrong shirt when I picked up, and jacket still didn't fit. The shirt that finally did fit was visibly dirty. read more

Super professional staff. They really know what they're doing. Do yourself a favor and come in at least 2 weeks before your event. The whole process will take about 30 minutes, so try to get in before 30 minutes to closing time. You will look fantastic at your event, the staff is meticulous about your appearance!
