This restaurant and downstairs bar just opened a week ago. The bar which serves food is open on the lower level while the bigger restaurant area on the main floor is still being finished up with construction. It is a beautiful historic building constructed in 1903 to house the Post Office for the city of Oskaloosa. It is now on the Registered National Historic Buildings list and includes many lovely and interesting relics while it was recently renovated as a restaurant and bar space.
My husband and I had lunch in the lower level today and were very happy with the experience.
The menu presently includes appetizers, sandwiches, salads, burgers, a tenderloin sandwich, beer, wine and both alcoholic drinks and "mocktails".
There was a good-sized bar, high top tables, a big booth, and various smaller rooms with sofas, stuffed chairs, side tables and large TV screens. An elevator and stairs can be used to the main floor from the bar area. The entrance from the outside to the bar is located on the Northside of the building. There is a small parking lot on the east side of the building and more parking a half block near Jaarsmas Bakery. The food was very good--sandwiches and burgers come with excellent fries. There are also other sides available. Once the upstairs is finished, the menu will probably be expanded for the larger dining room. Our waitress was sweet and helpful, and we were delighted to chat with their very friendly manager who was making sure to talk with all the patrons to be sure they were happy and to get their opinions and answer questions. We are very excited to see this lovely building put to use as a fine asset to Oskaloosa. It is closed on Wednesdays presently, but is open from 10:30 to 8:00 pm M,T, Th, F, S and Sunday 10:30-4:30. Go for an enjoyable experience! read more
