He has such an easy and clear manner in teaching his class. What both impressed and surprised me is how certain CPR instructions have changed in the past two years. Kevin gave detailed instructions even in where/how to stand next to someone having a cardiac or choking event, where to position legs and feet and where to put the cellphone (on speakerphone) next to the victim for talking with a 911 operator. Kevin's trainings are replete with stories about calls he's been on in the past year or so and the specific reasons why some of those calls had happy or tragic endings. The expanse of his knowledge on his subject is breathtaking--so he's the right guy to be teaching this class! Also, we've been to CPR/First Aid certification training that dragged on and on. Kevin's class flies by while ensuring we all have not only gained or refreshed knowledge but had that right amount of hands-on practice. He covers so much in his 3-hour training that it's best to just take the class to discover all it encompasses. And--Kevin? See you in two years, my friend.

Kevin Bernt is an excellent instructor. He's well prepared, class is efficient and organized. He explains concepts clearly. Many students have worked a childcare profession for years and need to renew every 2 years. Which means they have stories of emergencies that happen to them and they can relate to the serious lessons being taught. I am sorry Ted A. with the one star review doesn't normally learn through conversation and other's experiences. It sounds like Ted wanted a straight forward list and then to leave. That's my guess. But, for me it was a 2.5 hour class and it was all encompassing. She covered all the material and she had added advice and stories to back up her lessons. For example, I needed my CPR cert because I am applying to be a Nanny. Since she asked me what job I needed the CPR cert for, she was able to give me advice about knowing for sure what addresses I am at in case I need to call 911, because she knows as a Nanny, I won't always be stationary. I am grateful she brought that to my attention and would recommend her class to anyone needing their CPR cert. She has a great attitude and is highly knowledgeable. Will probably go back in 2 years.

A lot of other places would advertise a given amount (for example $35-50) but then the CPR book and skills portion were extra. Sometimes costing near $100 total! SafeGard was thankfully upfront and it was a flat $35 for the online class and skills portion and they are an actual training center for the American Heart Association. Getting registered and taking the online test was a little winded and lengthy, but eventually I was set up and taking my classes right away. I then was able to take the skills portion at the actual office which is just next door to Black Raven brewery. Carrie was our instructor and was very lively and informative. Class was 2 hours and after quite a few chest compressions on a dummy I got my CPR card! It was so easy and affordable. I'd recommend SafeGard for anyone needing to get certified ASAP.

Stop donations until the American Red Cross provides a clearing house for the children of native Americans who were separated from their parents while crossing the US border. The Red Cross should also be involved in helping rescue these children from institutions where they are being abused and caring for them until their parents can be found. I found a confusing list of almost thirty agencies attempting to help. There needs to be ONE PLACE that parents can go. The American Red Cross should be at the forefront. If not, perhaps a UN agency could assist us with our Trump-made national disaster. read more

I went to the School of Visual Concepts for a day-long workplace training on content strategy. I'd…read morenever been here before, but would definitely go again! The school is located in a busy, high-traffic part of South Lake Union. There's a paid parking lot across the street, but it was also easy to get to by bus. The building is fairly large, with several classrooms and conference rooms. It's pretty minimalist, but the letterpresses and type trays are cool and fun to look at, and the hallways display interesting student work and large-scale steamroller prints from the annual Steamroller Smackdown competition they run. They also sell letterpress cards made in-house, with some cute designs. Our training was from 9-4, and while I knew they were providing lunch, it was a nice surprise that they also offered breakfast: bagels, donuts, coffee and fruit. They also had an excellent snack bar for grazing throughout the day, with chips, trail mix, fruit snacks and cookies, plus coffee and tea. The bathrooms were conveniently located, small but clean and well-maintained throughout the day. There were several other events running at the same time, but the facilities were well maintained all day long. Our presenters were an in-house instructor and a guest speaker, and they did a good job keeping things interesting over a long day, with videos and activities to break up the speaking. That said, there were some downsides. Our group of about 50 was really too big to fit, even in the largest room, and the people on the edges of the room had a hard time seeing the monitors. The large meeting room is almost all floor-to-ceiling windows, and even with the blinds drawn, there was a lot of glare; combined with a slideshow that was white text on a light blue background, it was very difficult to see -- which wasn't ideal, since our activities required seeing what was on-screen. The street outside was high-traffic, including frequent buses, and there was some sort of construction project going on in the parking lot that was quite loud and distracting. Most of this, I think, can be chalked up to a group that was too big. However, we fell behind almost as soon as the training began, which threw the schedule off -- we didn't get a break until after 11. Lunch was scheduled for 1, which felt kind of late, though at least we had the snack buffet to work on! Overall, I liked the facility, and most of the issues we had came from being too large of a group for the room we were in. They offer letterpress and hand-lettering classes for individuals, and I'd really like to come back and try one of those. I feel this is so important -- without a learning *community* learning is difficult. I took a full day workshop on visual meeting facilitation. I have tangible and valuable skills from just one short day here and am looking forward to applying what I learned in my work!! Also - free breakfast and lunch! Only gripes/suggestions: 1 - when doing name tags it's nice to get into the habit of asking students to state/write gender pronouns, SVC doesn't seem to have a policy around this but I think it would be appropriate 2 - this might only be specific to my instructor, but I think more could've been done to set ground rules for class at the beginning (like how/when to ask questions). there were a couple students in my workshop who ended up dominating conversations. this is really common with extroverts who quickly jump in with comments. But sometimes implementing a policy of "if you just spoke, wait a bit to see if someone else has something to add" can be helpful and encouraging to more quieter types/internal processors in the room. I also had a list of questions i wrote down expecting we would have time to ask questions at the end, but we ran out of time. So policies around class participation could be helpful! I enjoyed the more interactive parts of this workshop especially when we broke into groups and had more time to chat with each other and apply what we were learning. Highly recommend classes at SVC, I'll be back when my wallet lets me!

But if you actually follow the BBB link on their own site, you'll find that they're not accredited and have an "F" rating with multiple unresolved complaints. That should have been my first red flag. The initial crew they sent out was friendly and seemed competent. They got the trenchless line replacement done, and the work passed inspection. But once Cesar, the owner, received his final payment -- before the job was fully completed -- he disappeared. Completely stopped answering calls, only occasionally responded to texts after I threatened escalation, and even then just sent vague promises like, "We'll come tomorrow." I got that same excuse five times over nearly three weeks. Each time, nobody ever showed up. Now I'm left with multiple open trenches in my yard, exposed pipe, and an increasingly frustrated right-of-way inspector who could hold me liable for the unfinished state of the project. The pictures attached show how they left my front yard (even their cones are still here). Cesar might underbid competitors to win your business, but this company is a total gamble. If you do take the risk, I strongly advise you never pay in full until every part of the work is completed and confirmed in writing. I was a 'good student' (her words) and watched the 2 paid webinars, and paid for 3 months of chart consultation. I made a lot of changes and put in a lot of energy toward this process, for over three months before she would even think of making an attempt (IUI). Just a few days before our scheduled IUI, and after I had already taken Clomid, she cancelled the cycle attempt. Labs she had asked for revealed I was not immuned to mumps. I asked if it was likely that I could contract mumps through frozen, washed semen. She skirted the question, but added that I had done my labs for hormone level checks on the wrong day of my cycle and they would need to be redone. I had felt like I was nearing the end of a marathon at approaching our scheduled IUI. Now my insurance will not cover getting those hormone check labs done again, and trying to get the mumps vaccine still has not been succesful after weeks of calling my ob/gyn and gp. As a person who was already gluten intolerant, I gave up coffee, and due to allergies which I used to ignore, gave up chocolate and cheese. I bought more organics, took fertility tea which I steeped overnight, took supplements, did fertility yoga, did abdominal self massage (specific method). Kristin said she could do the lab tests, but insurance won't work with her. More out of pocket. Earlier on when I hesitated at even doing the labs, she implied she would not be able to work with me if I did not. I had already paid her at that point. We are backing out. Anyone who does plan on this method through Maia Midwifery & Fertility needs to know that she calls the shots and isn't going to say anything like 'this is so exciting!' If your past experience with getting pregnant with donor sperm was at home, or via an ob/gyn assisted IUI (now an endangered, if not extinct species) just prepare for the difference. If you have a friend who works as an ob/gyn, some will do the procedure at your home for you, free of charge. My current ob/gyn told me she had done it for friends. I almost felt I could have asked her. My other recommendation for those of you ttc via donor is use a known donor. You ob/gyn can advise which tests your donor needs, and contract forms are online. Laws vary by state, but here in WA, as I last read and understood it, if there was no intercourse, he has no rights if trying to claim parental rights later. With fresh sperm, doing this yourself at home can work and be affordable, as it ended up being for us. Baby dust to anyone reading this!

At the first consultation she recommended weight loss which is not a recommendation from a Health At Every Size framework, so clearly she is not aware of the meaning of Health At Every Size. We never went back. I would have chosen another service had I known that to begin with as we had already experienced enough stigma from health type providers.
