This past weekend I went to the American Red Cross's Mt. Hope facility to donate blood. I want to applaud the women working there for their knowledge and professionalism. I am a regular donor, so I use the American Red Cross app to make my appointment, and to fill out the Rapid Pass before I got to the facility.
Everything was a breeze from checking in with the volunteer at the front desk, through the process of getting my vitals and making sure I had the requisite level of iron needed to donate. I came in to make a Power Red donation but did not have a high enough number, but I was still able to donate whole blood. The process took about an hour, and you get cookies, water, and cranberry juice to boot.
In this season of giving, I implore you to give the gift of life through a blood donation to the American Red Cross, especially if you have a blood type that is rarer than others. read more
