As did another client, if I could, I would give this business 0 stars for lousy customer service. I have NOT tried donating at this address but have at day sites set near me. I have donated over 25 gallons in 8 states. This is the worse center ever. I have tried to donate 3 times at their day sites. 2 times I set up the appointment ahead of time, but they opened late by 20 minutes both times. One of those times they took a walk in who was giving platelets ahead of me, and arrived after me, because " it takes longer". I tried giving this week at the West AVL Fire Department. Set up for 2nd appointment as they have never arrived at time So I was scheduled for 11:45. One 11: 30 was ahead of me. I arrived at 11:39. They had us go to a room in the back as they were not ready. 12:00 and they were not ready. 12:04 two more people join us. Still not ready. I go to the restroom for a minute, and come out and a fire department ushers me to the donation room. I go to check in, they took the lady who had the 11:30 first, then the two who came in at 12:04, then I check in, though I had used the fast pass, the supervisor said they had computer issues, took my driver's license and said that's for walking in. I noted I did not walk in, I had an appointment for 11:45. She said thanks for wainting, they had a computer problem. Then she indicates for me to sit down and wait while they process the others first. I motioned for her to come out, noted on the website their motto is we value your time, and yet they again don't open on time, and to add insult to injury, take two people who came in 20 minutes after my appointment ahead of me. I told her it was terrible service, and I was not giving. And walked out. She never even apologized. read more

Terrible customer service. Had an appointment set for 1:30 and had the "fast pass" ready at the front desk. I witnessed the lady checking me in change my appointment time to 3:45 and told me since I scheduled it online the day before, it wouldn't change anything that was just her only option on her end to push?? Upon waiting an hour without anyone acknowledging me I went up and asked if they were almost ready for me, only to say my appoint me was rescheduled to 3:45! I hate needles. I've tried to give blood elsewhere with horrific results. Ok, maybe not horrific but very bad, haha. Everyone here is very professional and understanding of the 6'5" 230# guy who cowers at the sight of a hypodermic needle. I'd recommend going here over anywhere else I've ever been. read more

I am retracting my positive review from last night. Today I went in to give blood. No one greeted me. 3 staff passed by the waiting area and not one acknowledged my presence. There were hardly any wholeblood donors in the place. After 20 minutes of being ignored I walked out. It is disturbing that I have the gift of life in my arm and someone out there who needs it. In between us is a flawed inept system that's preventing much needed blood to be processed and to get where needed. I have contacted the office and am sure this does not reflect the values of ARC. I hope this is a temporary fluke. Meanwhile I'll be holding onto my own blood thank you. read more

Actually-I would give no stars to this location. The building is extremely old, chipping paint, the bathrooms are dirty (Tape is being used to hold the toilet paper holder in place). The landscape overgrown and dying. I had a scheduled blood donation, and when I walked in no receptionist was at the front desk. I followed where the signs did lead and someone spoke to me from across the room, "CAN I HELP YOU?" WHAT ARE YOU HERE FOR?" SIGN IN... No pen to be able to do that. The assistant came over, handed me a pen, turns around and walks off without any further directions. I asked her again she was across the room, what's next? Take a seat and read the information. (I'm not a child, stop talking to me like I am I thought). Her body language I felt I was putting her out to help me donate blood, IN WHICH THE RED CROSS constantly, wants. Most unprofessional experience I have ever had donating blood! Where they do the procedure for the blood donations, the room is dirty, tables are dusty, the chairs doubtful they are cleaned properly. The entire time I felt like I was putting them out. A second assistant came over, and she also spoke to me like I was a child. I assure you I am a professional and know professional etiquette and work in healthcare. The donation itself took 7 minutes. I will NEVER give blood at this Red Cross location again. They can't take care of the building, the landscape, or clean properly, and the unprofessional behavior of the staff, I am not certain that my donations would be handled in the strictest of procedures, because of the corners that are evidently cut. The "snacks" they have out do not offer any sugar free options. The "coffee" counter was cluttered, and dirty. No thank you. When I left, I went out to my car to put something's in it, came back inside and at the front desk a receptionist sits, who never makes eye with me, or acknowledges me at all. She was busy on her phone, with ear buds in. I go into the restroom, she is in the restroom looking in the mirror at her hair, and again never acknowledges me, I leave and nothing from her. Which was fine with me, sometimes its best not to talk. Leaving, a very nice Ford Explorer pulled out branding the Red Cross name. NC89774-V license plate. The last time I was in Boston, MA and my husband and I saw a brand new hummer dawned with Red Cross logos all over it. Why do you need a BRAND new hummer in Boston I wondered? Interesting so who funds that? Complete waste of resources I feel. Plenty of alternative options and Red Cross chooses the top of the line? These 2 cars I bet were easily $80,000. What could that amount of money do? Questionable leadership within this organization. Are the standards really that low? I am an instructor for ARC and unfortunately I have to deal with the Asheville office. By unfortunately I mean the following items: can hardly ever talk with anyone on the phone; after leaving countless messages, no one will ever return my call; the phone number listed (yahoo search engine) for this office actually rings a Public Broadcasting radio station (of the one or two times I did talk with someone over the past three years, I have told them about this error) and finally, if you do reach someone, they have failed 100% of the time to assist me. Hello, I have donated blood at this particular center for a number of years now, however after my experiences the other day I am reluctant to go back. It's been four days and my arm is still purple and bruised from the needle stick. The phlebotomist should of never used the vein she did and her trainer should of never allowed her to do so. It stung the entire time it was in my arm and left a handsome hematoma to follow. I will not stop donated blood, but will be much more cautious as to who sticks me in the future. Thank you read more

I just tried to call the Red Cross to see if anyone was available to take a blood donation. I went through no fewer than four phone menus after which I ended at the National Red cross center. What good does it do to have an options menu when you need to know the name of the person you want to talk to? If I knew their name and extension I would have dialed it. No wonder the Red Cross is so far behind in donations. They're impossible to communicate with. Many times when I go over there to make a donation they act as if they're doing me a favor.
