The days go by far too slow and the only respites are lunch and the occasional beautiful female that graces our presence in the branch. Today was no different. Same shit, different day. Thankfully the Angels are on the East Coast playing my 2nd favorite team, the Tampa Bay Rays. I needed some balm on my frayed nerves and baseball on the radio during the drive home was that soothing ointment that allowed me to maintain my composure. The Angel loss today also helped. This was the radio station always came in with a clear signal, because the secular radio stations from Los Angeles and San Diego had weak signals due to our location at the very south end of Orange county. So you can imagine my disdain for radio station that wasn't playing wild music, that preached about Jesus, the apostles, and let me tell you there times I despised this radio station. I was a 17 year old child who knew very little. Now I can tell you how I am longing to hear that Chuck Smith senior's voice, but unfortunately I only get to hear repeats of his sermons. The one thing that bothers me is how this station advertises a well-known cult rehab called uturns for Christ, and I believe they should separate themselves from such a disgusting rehab that exploits those who are in a vulnerable position in their lives.(It's not like they're in financial dire straits!

That is, until you realize practically all the Spanish-language radio stations play either rock en Espanol, reggaeton, regional Mexican music or maybe a little bachata. Practically anything but Salsa! Cumbia, to me, is the closest thing to salsa music. If you've seen it danced by people who are a bit more advanced, it looks very similar. Heck, Celia Cruz's popular salsa song "La Vida es un carnaval" is actually a cumbia / salsa hybrid. It was for this reason, I occasionally found myself listening to 96.7 "La Rockola" or KWIZ, which is technically a cumbia station. What I didn't know was that they also played the occasional salsa song! Yay! Salsa in LA! Woo hoo! ;-)

How do I start when I have so many good things to say about this station?!?!?! Every once in a…read morelong while, I will scan through my radio tuner in my car for new stations. The stations I usually listen to tend to play the same 5 songs over and over. Ridiculous. All of a sudden, my radio (yes, I still listen to the radio in the car instead of subscribing to satellite) starts playing this great music so I stopped...and then song after song, I didn't want to change the station. It was a mix of different decades and songs that you don't hear other stations play anymore. First of all, the station is bilingual with music in Spanish during the daytime. I usually listen to this station in the evening when all the songs are English hits. There are so many ways I can describe this station: 1) The old K-Earth meets the current K-Earth...but that doesn't fully describe it well either. 2) Reminds me of my old iPod that had 5000+ songs. I have eclectic taste in music that spans many decades and genres. 3) "OMG, I forgot how much I loved this song!" type of radio station. Right now, Elvis' "Stuck On You" (1960) is playing. I haven't heard this song played on the radio in decades! Right before that, Stevie Wonder's "Happy Birthday" (1981). Other forgotten classics have played on this station like "United We Stand" by Brotherhood of Man from 1970, "In the Summertime" by Jerry Mungo (1970).... I've heard songs from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s! Your aural pleasures are not just confined to the car radio (90.3 FM). If the signal is weak wherever you are, you can stream it online from a website (doesn't even have to be an app) at radiosuerte.com and it comes in loud and clear! Last weekend, I was listening to the station and I was loving every song. Then I realized that there was a theme they were abiding by that night. Each song was about "eyes." Imagine all the hits: "Private Eyes" (Hall & Oates), "Eye of the Tiger" (Survivor), "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" (The Platters), "Pretty Little Angel Eyes" (Curtis Lee), "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" (Frankie Valli), "Hungry Eyes" (Eric Carmen), "Don't it Make My Brown Eyes Blue" (Crystal Gayle), Brown Eyed Girl" (Van Morrison), "Bette Davis Eyes" (Kim Carnes), etc. There are no DJs that disrupt songs. Commercial breaks don't last forever. Maybe like 1 minute at most and they are back to the music! I wish I had found this station earlier! Listen to this station NOW!!!!!!

This was also the day of…read moremultiple festivities going on in Santa Ana such as: Dia De Los Muertos, Santa Ana Artwalk, and a skate competition. It was basically a huge block party. Overall I had a great time, the music was great, vendors were cool, and the cypher and bkid/girl battles were pretty hype. I look forward to see the next Beat Swap Meet Overall: * 5 stars. Once again I had a great time. The vibes were safe, friendly, and fun. I didn't have to pay because I brought a few canned goods to donate and parking wasn't that chaotic. Finding food wasn't a problem so all in all, a great event for all ages. Advice: * Bring canned good for free admissions * Structure parking isn't too hard to find nor too expensive.
