I like this station! I know what you're saying: classic rock?!? Songs that I've heard 500 times or more? Well, a few of the songs they play fall under that category, but many of them can be heard nowhere else, and I guarantee that if you tune in, you'll be hearing some songs for the first time. They claim to have a 10,000 song playlist, and I believe it. Ever hear Blues Project before? Until KOCI, I hadn't. Speaking of blues, they include that in their broad definition of classic rock. OMG! I was leaving the vet in Costa Mesa, playing around with my station presets, when I couldn't believe my ears!!! THE PAUL BUTTERFIELD BLUES BAND was on the air!!!! I had to double check and make sure I hadn't slipped in one of my own cds, but sure enough, this was playing on the radio! I almost peed my pants when the next classic, obscure, Van Mo track was played, and had to pull over to see what glorious radio station I was listening to, because had I not known any better, I would've thought I flashed back in time and was listening to Raechel Donahue on KSAN in 1969!!! Having worked with Raechel in radio, and being fully aware of the politics involved in commercial broadcasting, I'm sure the jocks at THIS station all feel as though they've died and gone to Radio Heaven!! read more

Joe L. has it right. This station has a nice mix of classic rock, known and unknown. They also play a fair number of instrumental pieces, which I like. I'm not such a blues fan, but I'm glad there's an outlet for it. According to the local paper (The Daily Pilot), this is a non-for-profit station run by about 4 guys on a shoestring budget. One Sunday morning I head a public affairs show in which the hosted intelligently interviewed the mayor of Newport Beach. Not the kind of stuff you can find on other stations. All in all, this is a good station. Give it a try. Only problem is that it's so low-powered (50 watts, according to the Pilot) that the signal fades if you're driving for very long! read more

KOCI Radio was designed from the ground up to service the communities it lives in which are Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Corona Del Mar and parts of Huntington Beach, Irvine and Fountain Valley. It's on the same frequency, 101.5 FM, as the much larger signal of KGB in San Diego which sometimes interferes with our signal in the area. Just found this station today when I was driving home from work. Great songs, great variety, haven't heard a commercial yet! only complaint is I can't realy get the station very well in Eastern Irvine... guess my computer is gonna have to suffice for now. Its funny that KOCI a station with the same frequency of KGB in San Diego is beating them at their own game. Good at you KOCI, please don't change and buy a bigger antenna already! Don't listen to Frank. :) I think he must be listening at the wrong time or something. My sister turned me on to this station about two months ago and I stream it every single day now. KOCI digs deep, playing "haven't-heard-this-in-years" stuff, even if you do listen to classic rock stations. Plenty of B-side stuff: they pan for gold [and not in the same creek] every day. KOCI is the best radio station on this island earth. I am always surprised by the staffs knowledge and their understanding of what really good music really is. The FM radio band is filled with nothing but cookie cutter stations all across this great country. Every radio station play list is like it was a top 40s AM channel, over and over and over! Stop it! Be like KOCI and you'll join the ranks of what real entertainment is meant to be and should be! KOCI plays music from artists that I know but have never heard, in addition too artists that I have never heard before, I can't tell you how many new artists that I have never heard of before played on KOCI that I have since down loaded, I thought I had heard everything there was to hear..... Frank: I think that your negative comment is referring to KGB in San Diego, which happens to be on the same frequency as KOCI in Newport Beach. KOCI does not play the same songs every day. But, I DO wish they'd play more classic rock and less blues. Those of us who grew up in So Cal didn't listen to the blues. We listened to ROCK (and pop rock). Are you listening KOCI ??? read more

Although the Idea of a new classic rock station was good. I have to complain to the same frequency as strong KGB out out S.D. This should have been looked into by mgt! Now, here in Orange and surrounding cities, it's about 80% KOCI and 20% KGB fading in and out! When it does come through, the different songs are a joy to listen to again on radio. As of Mid-Dec. All kinds of great blues and obscure versions of songs you already know, and lots i've never heard before. the signal is weak at home, work or in the car tho, so it fades in and out. I truly enjoy listening and learning from Blue and the Pot Brothers at law. Because of them I know how to protect myself from illegal actions against me as well as how to keep my medication properly stored. I learn information not only for California but from other states as well. I appreciate this show and think everyone could gain knowledge from listening to it as well. read more

KOCI is a LPFM (Low Power FM) station broadcast from Costa Mesa. FCC regulations for LPFM allow 100 watts of power giving a clear signal broadcast radius of 3 1/2 miles from the transmitter. Those of us lucky to live within that area get the greatest station on the air. Amazing classic tracks and artists that will never be heard on KLOS, JACK or even the very excellent 100.3 "The Sound". Plus there is zero talking outside of a few very good weekend shows, and virtually no commercials. They do have streaming audio so anyone can tune in that way. Just discovered this station when I was in OC on business. I live in San Diego, so of course KOCI doesn't come in here on the radio because of crusty old KGB, but I have it coming over my Roku player which is hooked into my stereo, so I can listen at home. Love it, and their lack of a corporate playlist. A lot of things I haven't heard in years and years, and some things completely new. read more

After years of punching off the radio because I couldn't stand one more repeat of a Stevie Nicks song, I've found the perfect station. Fantastic mix with unusual variety. Songs I can sing too as well as tunes I'd never heard in styles I don't normally pursue but have come to appreciate. Couldn't be happier. And I love that it's a local station, like our own little gem, hearing ads for businesses in the area that I might actually find useful.
