Growing up, I loved our television. It wasn't that it had the largest screen, but the dial was so…read moresatisfying to turn--I remember the clicking sound and exactly how much tension was required to change the channel--and while most other people's TVs were surrounded by annoying wood cabinets with speakers that had long since stopped working properly, our TV looked relatively modern even in 1988, when TVs didn't come with dials anymore. My parents held on to that TV until the late '90s, but we had gotten cable when I was in first grade, so the wonderful dial was stuck at channel 3 for many many years, although I would sometimes change it just for old times' sake. This is a review of KOCE, however, so why am I talking about an old TV? Well, remember how difficult it was to get to the higher channels on old TVs? You had to change the main dial to the auxiliary setting, and then you had to turn the second dial to the correct station. That was always really annoying, especially when I wanted to watch Sesame Street, which was on channel 28. I never minded having to go all the way up to channel 50 for KOCE, however. Why? Well, mainly because I thought this channel was so cool. It also carried Sesame Street, but there was so much more. There were weird opera shows and strange acting shows and weird one-man-talking shows. I remember a particular guy with ghost-white hair, but I don't remember what the show was. I think this is even the station that used to carry the Wally George Show, which I loved when I was a kid for some reason. (Don't worry; I'm not that stupid anymore.) I also felt kind of special that we got two PBS stations at our house. I don't think other people in L.A. County got KOCE, but I might be wrong.

If only there were a zero star rating. After 25 years as a DISH customer, someone who is paying…read morefor TWO separate accounts (one for my parents, one for me), I had to discontinue the DISH service at my place a few days ago. (I was having difficulty getting reception for months on end.) Initially, when I called to cancel one of the accounts, I was told by DISH that for a fee of $150, DISH would send a technician to remove the satellite dish from the roof. I told him I would get back to him. When I called back yesterday, this offer is now apparently off the table because my account is technically closed. (Even though I'm STILL paying for my parents' account, a couple hundred per month -- again for over 25 years!!) I've talked to multiple DISH agents as well as the "supervisor" Crystal the last two days but they refuse to help. Outta their hands! Meantime they said I could call one of their "retail partners" to remove the satellite dish. EXCEPT THEY DON'T HAVE ANY!! I live in Los Angeles, and the closest retail partner is in BIG BEAR, 3 hours away! NO "retail partners in Los Angeles area. Just for laughs, I called the guy in Big Bear, who is a one-man shop and he said he is irritated that DISH gives out his number because the only people who call him from DISH are many, many hours away -- sometimes not even in this part of the state. Unless you are local to Big Bear, he cannot service you, which is understandable.) The DISH agent also gave me another number supposedly for a company supposedly in Anaheim (about 2 hours away) called X-Factor Communications, That number was not in service! I tried calling twice, then called DISH back to double-check and DISH confirmed the number they gave me for help was not in service. I'm an elderly person with a disability and I can't get up on the roof to get the satellite DISH down. So far the handymen I've contacted can't or won't do the job. So I'm stuck with a piece of garbage on my roof, which is my souvenir for over 25 years of loyalty. DISH absolutely sucks!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
