Contrats! You have found the best plumber in the metro area if you need a water line replaced. This team was fantastic from start to finish. Honest fair pricing in their quote, then they used the least intrusive way of repairing the line. Our original defective polybutylene main line in the front yard was leaking badly, and they replaced it with 1in copper. The total time it took from the main being shut off until we could use the water again was less than 3 hours. The line was bored so it didn't tear up the yard, and after they completed the backfill and replacing the few pieces of grass the following day you would have no idea they had been there. We were in constant communication about his arrival. The yard was disturbed very, very, minimal. They did NOT leave a very large mess as some people do when they dig holes in your yard. This time, we had a rental property running into thousands of dollars of water bills, and the water authority said it was an underground leak. We called Dan, and he came by the same day. He searched and researched meticulously and worked with the water authority. He determined that it wasn't an underground leak and the leak came from inside the house and the water authority agreed. Great experience with these guys, much better than expected. First, I asked 4 companies to quote replacement of the 40-year old polybutylene water main line, a 40 ft run from the street into the basement of our townhouse. This was after we noticed persistent moisture on the concrete floor of the laundry room, and a Fairfax Water technician came and confirmed a leak underneath. The quotes from one small and two large companies in the area came in at ~$5-7k , the proposed techniques including: (A) copper pipe directionally moled from the laundry room under the adjacent bedroom and outside to the street valve, with limited concrete breaking in the laundry room and some limited digging next to the street valve; (B) copper pipe routed through the ceiling of the adjacent bedroom into the front house wall then down into the ground, with some drywall work required in ceiling and wall and (C) copper pipe installed next to the existing poly line, involving breaking the concrete slab in the laundry room, tiles in the bedroom, and digging extensively in the front of the house. A neighbor mentioned American Plumbing and gave me Dan Parris' phone number. This 5th quote ended up being a winner for us. The method proposed was very different, namely installation of a 3/4K copper pipe INTO the existing poly line, without any digging or concrete breaking. They basically fished the copper pipe and pulled it in from one end of the poly tube, out at the opposite end. The work was done promptly and professionally within a day, with County inspection and back-filling at the street valve the next day, all for less than $3k. The only concern I had before doing this work was that we'd lose water pressure due to the copper pipe being a smaller diameter (3/4") vs. the original 1" poly line. Dan had pointed out that the water meter was a lower diameter anyway (5/8") so there would be no noticeable change in water pressure through the house. One week after the project was completed, I can say that the pressure is somewhat reduced but it is only noticeable when multiple showers are running. I am not sure if this is because of the reduced pipe diameter, or because of a new pressure reducing valve we asked AP to install for us. All in all, we are happy with how this turned out, and recommend American Plumbing for plumbing work done well and at a great price. read more

I had 300 ft of copper line installed. They pulled the line through the 45 year old brittle plastic line that failed 2 times in the last year. My insurance would only pay for spot repairs. The first 90 ft was under the slab of my house. I can now stop thinking about the next failure. They arrived when they said they would and did the work fast and cleaned up after them selves. If you have any kind of water line issue, you absolutely need to call Dan at American Plumbing. Sure, by all means feel free to do your due diligence and get several quotes, but American Plumbing will most likely win that battle (and it likely won't be close). But it's not just that they'll crush the competition on price, they also are really good at their jobs and likely know more about working with water lines than any other vendor you'll call. To top it off, they're fast at responding, friendly, efficient, and respectful of your property. We came home to find a note from Fairfax Water that they suspected a leak, and sure enough they eventually confirmed that. We contacted many plumbers, and our email to Dan didn't get sent until close to 1am. He responded in one minute saying he'd be there in the morning to check things out. Other plumbers took 30-60 minutes to diagnose the problem and elaborate on their $5k to $6k quote, whereas Dan instantly knew what was wrong, how he was going to solve it, and within a few minutes wrote me a quote for WELL BELOW any other quote (I'm not posting it here because every house and situation is different and that wouldn't be fair to Dan). Dan and team (Dave led the replacement and was outstanding) showed up at 9am the next morning and drove away around 11am with us now having a fully operational water line. The county inspector came the next business day and approved the permit, and our final invoice was identical to Dan's initial quote. We cannot say enough positive things about the job Dan, Dave, and team did to repair our water line. Seriously, call these guys if you have a water line issue. Back in September this year, water was coming out of my asphalt driveway in front of the garage due to the water main break (the elbow join of 1" plastic main and 3/4" copper in-house supply line). The water was shut off by the city couple days later after the notice of water main break. I called several companies for a quote of repair. They ranged from $1,800 to $4,800. Some suggested open trenching or trenchless method to repair or replace the 55' long leak line. One insisted that 1" instead of 3/4" (by the code) K-copper line should be used. Most of them do not cover resurfacing/patching/restoring the open trenching areas (concrete and asphalt). Asphalt companies will normally have a minimum on-site charge of $1,500 to perform any resurfacing of a driveway. Although American Plumbing (AP) quote is not very thorough, the owner was very responsive and patient to reply my numerous inquisitive questions with explanations. Therefore, I decided to choose AP with the open-trenching method. During the repair, trenchless method was considered to be doable after assessing the actual site conditions. AP reduced $600 from the agreed open-trenching price as less labor and time involved. The repair looks very professional (hardly noticed any trace of repair). The pressure from the 3/4" main line seems like the 1" pipe before because it is regulated after entering through the house. The flow (gpm) seems the same to me although it would be theoretically changed by the pipe size. I would strongly recommend AP for waterline break repair. read more

The day that my water line ruptured I called around to several plumbing companies to try and get someone out to provide an estimate, and Dan (the owner) was at my house within an hour and a half of my call. I needed a plumber to install a PRV on our water line. I called American Plumbing, Danny asked me to take a picture of our main waterline in the house. He told me we already had a PRV line. I had American come out anyway to put in a new valve on our main water line because the one we had was frozen. I asked Danny about another problem that we have had for over a year. The previous owner put in a Sprinkler system himself and during hard rains water would come in around the pipe that comes into the house and run down the foundation wall. Over the last year and a half I have had Irrigation companies come out who told me to call a plumber, plumbers come out who told me too call irrigation, foundation companies who wanted to do more than I needed for thousands of dollars! It was very frustrating so I just put a tarp down. Danny said it didn't sound like a problem. David and his team dug up the area by hand, reworked the pipe and patched the wall inside and out. This is what we knew needed to be done, but foundation companies wanted to bring in a small excavator to dig the hole, move shrubs and charge me $$$. None of that needed to happen. I turned off water to my home, but was worried about the cost of replacing the line and the number of days that it would take for a contractor to complete the work. Recently I had an issue with my water pressure after I had a new water line installed in my house in June 2015. Luckily I had water line insurance through NOVEC. The installation went fine. I called the company and said I was experiencing increased water pressure in my house and I thought something was wrong with the water pressure valve. They said they don't usually install this item at the same time but they would check their records and that they typically fail after a new water line is installed. This would have been nice information to know so I could have the valve replaced at the same time or by my own plumber soon after. They asked me my property address and name. They could not find any record of having done the job. So much for there promised 10 year warranty if they can't find the record.
