Absolutely great service from this company. We had an issue with our existing door. While scheduling the repair, I we also asked for the cost of a new one. The technician was great and fixed our door the next day. We also had a quote for a new door with opener. When there was a delay with receiving the door, they let us know right away. I was actually expecting some sort of delay because I requested a non-stock door and everything is delayed with Covid manufacturing/delivery. The door arrived sooner than the delayed expectation date and they installed it right away. Vey polite technician removed my ancient door and installed the new one. I did not realize how decrepit my old door really was, and super loud. I cannot even hear this door go up or down. I am happy every time I look at the door. Great Job! read more

Had a tech come out to do a simple adjustment and received a bill $128. When I inquired, I was told that "We don't have to tell customers about the minimum fee". Cool. Really crappy way to treat customers and run a business. I will use ANY other business for future garage needs. read more

Garage door broke, a guy came over late in day. He just mumbled to himself as he looked around. I offered to let him use my step ladder. Other than putting greasy fingerprints all over door inside & out, he apparently fixed it. He never cleaned the fingerprints off my white door. 3 days later the whole system broke! Cables came off rollers, door slammed shut at 6:30 am - neighbors probably thought I fired a shotgun. This of course meant I needed a new system! Which was properly installed. I got charged FULL FORCE for both visits! No discount for first breaking my entire system. Call someone else when you need door service. read more

Spring broke on our garage door. Guy stopped in to get the size and said he had to order it, ok no problem. Comes back a week later to change it. Charged us 10 hours labor for a total of $2300. Appleton is 30 min away and it only took them 1.5 hours to change the springs. Stay away and find another garage door repair company because these guys are not ethical. read more

One star is too much. The worst customer service ever. I had them come to diagnose whether I needed an adjustment in springs or a new door to go with the new opener. Three days after the 1 1/2 horse opener was installed, it was determined that the door was old and too heavy for the opener. That didn't stop them from opening and closing 12 times causing the gears to be shot. They left the chain off, cover open and error messages on keypad. Called manager and he said no way his technician would open and close 12 times. I have the app and the history. That's why I know how many times it was run up and down even though it was determined the door was too HEAVY. The manager said he talked to his technician whose account of the visit was significantly different. I was told to have a good day. NO RESTITUTION unless I ordered a door for almost $2000. read more

Called American Overhead Door because we wanted to upgrade our two doors to those "wood looking" type doors. I was expecting the sales guy (forgot his name) to schedule an appointment, come out and help us select the right doors. Instead he just directed us to a website. This was disappointing for what is certainly a $5,000 - $7,000 purchase. Lazy is another word that comes to mind. I called 2 other fox valley garage door companies and they came onsite and offered suggestions and suggested different doors in various price ranges. So we never got off the ground with AOD because the sales process was basically nonexistent. read more

I hired AOD to install a garage door at a rental property approx 2 years ago. This May the opener detached itself from the wall and fell on a tenant's car - causing more than $1,100 in damage. After several calls and them telling me there was no reason a garage opener would detach (unless....it did), AOD finally agreed to fix the door opener. The first visit was unsuccessful and after more follow up and them telling me the door was tested and working (when it didn't) - they had to return again to install an additional bracket. Since that time, I've followed up multiple times about the damage to the tenant's car and the company is clearly avoiding me. It has been one month since the incident and AOD continues to avoid my calls and does not return calls after I leave messages. Be warned. They do not stand by their work and choose to avoid a situation rather than resolve it to ensure a happy customer. read more

Not impressed! An installer showed up to replace 2 garage doors. Very testy and rude attitude. When he discovered he would need to add a few new pieces of wood which should be a normal routine when replacing a 30 year old garage door. He tried to pawn the whole thing off on another contractor who had nothing to do with installation of the door. Then within 5 minutes had his tools packed up, and gone off the job. On a Friday. There are 2 garage doors currently missing from the openings leaving the home owners garage wide open for at least the weekend. While the new doors sit there. I highly recommend looking for another overhead door company! This should have been a routine door replacement! There should be no issues with having to add a few blocks of wood for your mounting brackets. read more

I don't normally do bad reviews but I am right now!! A couple months ago I purchased a new garage door opener with battery powered back up from American Overhead Door. Power went out, I used the battery ONE time and it instantly started the 30 second apart beeping signifying it was a bad battery per the manufacturer. I contacted American Overhead Door, first they dispute that i had it installed with a battery because they can't find the paperwork. Then they say I can bring the battery in and exchange it. I point out to them that it was installed by them and is under warranty and that they should come and replace it. They then tell me they are not going to come replace it until power is back up!! . They also say that they would need to reprogram the opener and check to make sure the battery is bad. When I tell him that makes no sense, He (Mat) rudly tells me "that's the way it's going to be". Nice customer service!! I don't need a battery if my power is working!!!! I contacted the manufacturer directly. The opener doesn't need reprogramming, everything is stored in the board even when power is lost. American Overhead Door obviousness doesn't know their product. You take one battery out and replace with new battery. That's it. Also, the battery would be bad and need replacing since it has been more than 48 hours without a charge. I have no tolerance for liars and poor customer service. read more

***Updated June 3, 2017*** Stephanie did return my phone call and I have a credit on my credit card. This is a fail for business processes, but the company itself seems to have a good heart. My 3 stars is based on how difficult it is to get them to fix their own mistakes. ***Updated May 31, 2017*** Changing this back to a 1 star review. No credit on credit card and Stephanie didn't take my phone call. ***Update May 24, 2017*** As of 2:30 PM today I hadn't heard back from Stephanie, so I called up and was told that she ran a credit through on my card today. I believe her. When asked about what happened, initially she stated that American Overhead Door is transitioning to a new system. So they have an old system and a new system that they are moving to. Sometimes people will submit a bill twice. When informed that I actually got a telephone call requesting the CCV number again the next day for that charge, Stephanie stated that there must have been a miscommunication between the 2 schedulers. She couldn't think of any other reason. I've changed from a 1 star review to a 4 star review because * Honesty is huge with me * The fact that they were able to come to my house the day after I called them for the repair. * The contractors, engineers, and consultants I've talked to have indicated that they have been a reasonable company. It's a 4 star instead of 5 star review review because * Didn't return my phone call when they credited my card or do any research on what exactly caused the issue. * I paid $112 for installation of a less than $15 part (anybodies price for Ace hardware's MOST expensive locking handle) that took less than an hour of time, that includes all travel time. * They still have no system/process with training in place to stop this from happening again. * I had to spend an hour of my own time, which I was NOT reimbursed for, to attempt to troubleshoot the issue with their lack of process and training. ***Original Review*** We had American Overhead Door Replace a garage door T-Handle on May 10, 2017. They charged us $112 on May 10, 2017. Then called me up the next day stating they didn't have my CCV code to run the charge. I hadn't checked to see if the charge ran through, so I gave it to them. They then ran the charge for $112 again on May 11, 2017. It is May 23, 2017 now. I called American Overhead Door today at 4 PM and spoke with a gentleman who never offered his name. I was told that the accountant's name who I needed to speak to was Stephanie (spelling not verified) and she was gone for the day. I requested Stephanie call me back tomorrow and indicate exactly what happened, what they are doing to prevent it from happening again, and why it wasn't caught in their system. I will update this review as soon as I have heard from American Overhead Door. read more

Don't even bother calling this company--they're not reliable. I went to them to replace 2 panels of my garage door. They said those panels aren't made anymore and I needed to replace the whole door. The guy said he would stop by sometime on Wednesday morning...I waited all morning but no one ever showed up! I didn't get a call for another couple weeks and by then, I had found someone else to do the work. read more

Avoid this company at all costs. They have done a few jobs for us in the past and every time we ended up getting nickel and dimed for things that weren't broken to begin with. There are much better, more reliable overhead door companies in the Fox Valley. Learn from our mistake. Please do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. We wish we had. We spent $7,000+ on our custom CHI garage doors (oversized double and single). The sales component was "Ok"-- not as accommodating as one would hope, but Matt got the job done I suppose. He made a commission (I assume) not really "selling" anything, he took an order. Thankfully, I did not rely on him to find us a door-- I found it for them and told them exactly what I wanted with all the specs laid out. The install left a lot to be desired...a lot. One installer did a complete hack job on our door jambs-- literally ripped off a bunch of wood. The young guy who did it had the audacity to state that this is just what happens and it is normal. The older gentleman's side had little to no damage at all. This house was built in the early 2000's. Matt was somewhat apologetic, but overall, I feel it was not handled in the best manner possible. So, they charge me for the door-- and I have to tolerate the sad "fix" they made to the wood around our garage doors. Then-- I needed a new panel ordered because one of the two installers was truly awesome and noticed a dent in the door. He actually was a pleasure to work with. They ordered a new door panel-- would be about 2 weeks, no big deal. Well, 2.5 weeks went by, no word. I had to call them looking for my panel and an install time. I get a date/time set up-- I wait, then get a call that they are coming in the afternoon after I was already told to wait between 8:30-10:30 a.m. I said that will not work because I have other obligations that cannot be changed (school pick-up/children). After calling somebody did show up, 12:30....no apology after I had to call and find out if somebody was even showing up today. Also, the one door has some squeaking and grinding that I had to have fixed. Troy, came over today to do the fix and was efficient and polite-- he fixed the garage door so it does not squeak/grind. He did a good job fixing the issues. Overall, I certainly will not recommend this company, I will tell others about my experience, and our next custom garage door for our build will absolutely NOT be from American Overhead Door. I will make sure our builder/contractors do not utilize this company. Good (not even expecting excellent) customer service should not be this complicated. read more
