We were privileged to be sponsored and invited in to see this place, in order to visit my wife's friend while she was working the bar. This VFW post is very much like your traditional dive bar, at least to the uninitiated like us, but I'm sure it is much more meaningful to its members. There was a friendly comradery throughout, as everyone seemed to know each other, and enjoyed each other's company. They even treated us young dumb tourists from Portland with respect and kindness. Our drinks were strong, cheap, and came with several stories from a motley crew of characters. I felt honored and privileged to be amongst people who fought so hard for our country, and I wish all of them health and good fortune going forward.

Karaoke was even good. Now the other reason I went. The bar tenders not friendly matter of fact down right unfriendly. They catered to other guests and ignored me . Even barked at me to wait my turn when I was standing in front of her while she was helping other guest as soon as they arrived. Then she said this is all we have. A couple of drinkers later she pulled out what I wanted. That she said she didn't have. Well I will say this, she saved me from purchasing three to maybe four more drinks. Sobering but still enjoyable evening. P.S. I know I shouldn't complain but they need people skills. ALL PEOPLE.

Stand Down San Diego is one part of the Department of Veterans Affairs' efforts to provide many different services over an entire weekend at San Diego High School (July 15-17, 2011) to homeless veterans here in our area. not much of a women's center anymore. very industrial area, which i like. surprised citymark is…read moresupposed to be building high end residences here across from walmart and the automotive shop. very different design for citymark as well - when i purchased one of their condos (m2i) there was a lot of architectural talk about matching the facade to the surrounding neighborhood - didn't work out that way, but i liked the exposed structural materials at that location. in the end - a condo at this location cannot be worth more than $100k or $200 a square foot for 600sf. still crazy expensive compared to what the land was sold for at around $160k for the whole lot then resold recently at $2.1 million supposedly. better question - how could a location like this be worth anything at all when there are hundreds of condos proposed for construction in la mesa on their gis website? be careful starting a business that requires foot traffic here, when m2i first started the vast majority of the businesses in that area went belly up within a few years and that was in a high traffic city location - almost no-one walks around this area. the entitled design certainly is not industrial enough for the neighborhood - makes me super sad to read about the la mesa women's club at the library while also spending $320k on a unit at m2i then learning about what they are building here / how the developer/woman's group is suing the church next door. i am a bit ashamed to have paid for one of these units from citymark in the past - m2i 506 at 1050 island ave. that was me. also of note - citymark has a habit of installing very limited finished with the expectation that owners finish the interior of the units. that can work, but you should pay appropriately. personally - i expect more from a woman's club. primarily: consideration for the longevity of the city and the architectural design which they have strong control over at this location. they definitely sold out here while beating up on the church they grew up alongside. not cool - that says something about its current members. when you have property and an opportunity to build something that develops the city you are supposed to be shepherding, but you choose to sell out like this - there's something very wrong or entirely self centered going on. this proposed citymark design also shows that the women's club does not care about fabrication or industry whatsoever (which this area is rife with), just high end residential which is not going to help the la mesa tax base. expect a glut of units in la mesa at rock bottom prices with the intent of having you drive to work on a regular basis instead of working locally (there are already huge vacancies.) also expect higher prices in this area because of fewer low dollar residences.

VFW Coronado is a wonderful place to appreciate all in service or retired Veterans!!!!…read more I'm a lifetime Auxiliary Member at this VFW because of my grandfather, my mother's father, Dr. Newman Kennedy Bear, that was a Corpsman in WW1 and a Flight Surgeon in WW2. He was stationed in 1929 at Naval Air Station North Island (NASNI) in Coronado. He was cast as an extra in the last silent, black and white film by MGM called "The Flying Fleet". He played the roll as a Naval Medical Officer testing the Naval Academy Graduate Pilots for their air-worthyness to fly the then bi-planes on the NASNI cow pasture. He was also stationed on the original USS Midway during WW2, but fortunately was not on it when it was sunk by a Japanese Comacazzi Pilot in the Lettee Gulf during WW2. Another factor for me honoring Veterans is the fact the my father, John C.
