My 2 girls have been going to Amer Kenpo for 2 1/2 years. They are now 7 & 5. We have used their services for the preschool, after school care and the summer program. They are a godsend for this working single mom. They are open most days during the year, only closing for a few of the standard holidays and the most severe of the snow days. Their fees are fair and they work with you in times of trouble. The karate is fantastic! Wonderful discipline the girls are lucky to get to learn. The instructors are wonderful. The summer program is well thought out with weekly swimming trips as well as special guests brought in and trips to skateland and the movies. I do agree with the other review that I am NOT a fan of their snack program and the vending machines full of processed sugary drinks. Being a body discipline I would think that nutritional instruction would be something to incorporate heavily into their programing. In the future,I would also love to see them get natural lighting into the building somehow and obtain some outdoor play space. Overall they are providing a wonderful service! Although expensive, first impressions are everything! I have to say that once we walked in to the training area, my 5 year old went from nervous and scared to... ecstatic!! The energy that the instructors have is phenomenal! They involve every child in the group. They are able to get on their individual level in groups of little kids. Lisa made this experience good for my son. While signing up, she was concerned about my son being nervous. She did everything to reassure him that it was going to be so much fun... and it was. Kristy, the instructor, all I can say is WOW!!! She even walked my son off of the mat, and complimented me on how well my son did on his first day! I do not think that you can put a price tag on involving your children in something that will teach them patience, discipline, and respect outside of the home. I couldn't believe that they even want to know how school goes, and if there any problems that they can help with. If you can financially swing it, do it for your child. American Kenpo Karate staff do not only teach your child karate and martial arts as a means of discipline, but they also have a milieu of services that instill values into your child that will assist them in being successful at school, in the community, and at home. My child has personally been apart of this program for the last 2 years and he has become so confident in his abilities to be physically active and has grown in his academics. My child had a problem with controlling his asthma when he was upset and bullying in school. We've been enrolled in American Kenpo Karate Dundalk since September 2014. I have a son in the juniors program and one in the Dragons program. They are very happy that we finally signed them up. They are excited to go every night and work very hard to earn their stripes for their promotions. The instructors are very positive and make sure that all of the kids are learning. You get to watch the instructors teach right in front of you. There are about 3-6 instructors per class. They do outside activities sometimes for the children and earn stars for participating. I have nothing but positive things to say about this place. The staff in the office is very friendly and I never have a problem when I have questions. I see the owner every night. Mrs. Lisa in the office was very helpful in explaining everything when we signed them up. If you aren't signed up yet you are missing out on a wonderful experience for your children. read more

Both my children attend AKK and have a great time there. They enjoy all the activities provided, and love the staff. I like that my children are able to socialize with so many other children around their own age. Their before/after school program is wonderful, and very helpful, as they drop off and pick the children up from school, and make sure the children do their homework before they can play. The Karate lessons two days a week has helped my children be better focused and disciplined. Their daycare just recently purchased tablets for the children to assist in teaching them using educational apps like ABCMouse. When I first started taking my son there things seemed so chaotic, but over time I learned that the staff actually has things very well organized and under control. read more

I posted this on behalf of my daughter Akema Mitchell. Kenpo is the best because if someone sneaks up on you you can fight and beat up the bad guy. Also you can learn different and harder things to help you get better.If you need more help they will take the time out to help you.The best part is that when you promote you get anew belt or even a new level.On Friday fun day you get play the whole entire day and you get snacks but on Friday fun day you get candy.After karate they have a student of the class award if you win you will get a ring pop.For Friday if you win you get a dollar 25.Sometimes they will put the moon bounces out.This is why I think you should go to Kenpo. read more

My son has been going to Kempo for quite sometime. He loves it so much and I love it even more. He goes to Kempo after school they do his homework with him then some sort of physical Activity or karate (depending on the day) Then the kids have some free play time. They earn points for good behavior and get to have special treats depending on how well behaved they are. I really feel like they helped him be more disciplined. They also do special parties for the kids like a lock in once a year ,my son had so much fun and is looking forward to the next one.I could go on and on about this place but instead I'll just say go there and take a tour you won't be disappointed. read more

American Kenpo has been a great place for both of my kids. Both, have been able to discover a desire and love for karate. Both have made many friends of all ages and really enjoy the summer program. I enjoy the discipline, the focus, and the respect that Kenpo is instilling in both kids. The staff and instructors are great mentors for the young children they teach and care for. I also love the idea of working with the children with their homework. The fact that Kenpo also buses children to and from their schools is a tremendous benefit for me since it allows me to work a full 8 hour day no problem. read more

My son has been with American Kenpo for almost a year. He started in your summer program and over the winter months has been doing Karate twice a week. He was so excited over all he did with the summer program and loves his karate classes. This Sunday he will be promoted to yellow belt and he is so happy with all he has learned. He also enjoys all the extra activities, from the Halloween party to the over night event. I love that karate teaches him values and the socialization he gets. My daughter started Kenpo Karate when she was 5 in the Little Dragon Program. Now she is 8 and in the level 3 Jr. Program. She enjoys coming to classes each week. It has given her a considerable amount of great values. She has a great sense of discipline and confidence. And it all has to do with their staff who are loving, caring, and so much fun. This place is great....the staff is super friendly and work so well with the kids... I actually get amazed that the staff remembers everyone of the children's name and who the parents are... because there are so many kids.... my son is pretty anti social and this karate place is the best thing I could have done for him. American Kenpo Dundalk is an awesome karate school. They teach much more than karate techniques, they teach, respect, teamwork, discipline, goal setting and the list goes on and on. This is an awesome place with even better instructors. We have 2 children that attend and they really love it. Having instructors that are always smiling at the children really encourages them to participate and do their best. My 6 year old daughter has been going to about 6 months now and loves learning the moves. She can't wait till her next class. Attending classes has helped her to be more confident in herself.
