This school is very family oriented and maintains an educational yet fun environment. The pricing here is very fair for the classes as well as their branded merchandise. The class schedule is also very easy to follow. The daily class schedule for each level of students is different for every day of the week. However, this schedule is the same every week. Once you input the dates into your calendar you can put them on repeat and you'll never miss a beat. The belt testing here is also done well in my opinion. The testing dates are announced well in advance and I've also seen them posted throughout the Dojo. As long as the students attend, participate and learn the different blocks, punches, etc then they should pass their tests each time. My son has moved up to the next belt each time he has a belt test. The new location is really cool too! They now have two floors which allows them to accommodate more classes as well. I really am glad that my son attends Okinawan Karate Dojo! I'm lookong forward to him earning his black belt here one day.

The instructors (6th and 4th-degree black belts) are extremely knowledgeable and take the time to walk you through the movements. Even though the style focuses on minimal energy expenditure and using the opponent's energy against themselves, it's also a great workout and helps me decompress for the week. I highly recommend this for anyone looking to explore the Aikido martial arts.

My son struggles with paying attention in school, but here he loves "focusing" and learning new techniques. It's the right balance of challenge and accomplishment. The facility is nice enough, there is enough room for all the kids to spread out. Class sizes are around 12-15, which is perfect. Belt progression is not guaranteed, and belt testing is serious. Master Andrew trains his students to be competitive and many do participate in state and national competitions, but we're only white belt, so a ways to go still. If you're looking for a family-friendly, flexible, fun and competitive environment, this is the place.

The Master (surprisingly) was young, but after one trial class, my 7 year old daughter was hooked. She loved how Master Andrew made classes fun, entertaining, and filled with laughter, but also included times for serious learning accordingly. He understands if the kids are having a difficult time with certain forms, but continues to encourage them which helps give them that push to continue, rather than to quit. This dojo is also run by the most family-oriented family, whom (from what I've seen) all remembers each students and their families names. They are constantly sanitizing and keeping the place clean. Yes, even before covid hit. 4 years later, my daughter who started out as a no belt, holds a second degree black belt. It's a monthly fee that gives him unlimited access to classes. He can go once a week or 4 times a week or anything in between. We started him off slow so that he could learn the rules and way around. Now he's up to 3/4 times a week. Tae Kwon Do is a group excursion, but everyone gets a lot of quality instructor time and everyone moves at their own pace (in terms of testing for belts). Sometimes classes will have 5+ people, sometimes they'll have 2, just depends on the day of the week. Ms. Maria is down to earth, friendly, quirky and funny. But make no mistake, she demands respect, instills a sense of responsibility in students and expects them to respect each other and others. She loves her students and genuinely treats them like family. Ms. Maria and her co-instructor Matt also offer Eskrima, Boot camps, boxing and more. We recommend this for anyone (adult or child) interested in learning self-defense, self-control and good fitness. Ms. Maria also has classes catering to special needs children/adults as well.

Having earned a second-degree black belt myself years ago, I know firsthand how valuable martial arts can be for kids. Unfortunately, as their clientele expanded, the quality drastically diminished. Classes became increasingly rushed, with students quickly churned through and rewarded with belt stripes after every session, regardless of skill or understanding--akin to a meaningless participation trophy. Their scheduling approach makes everything worse. Classes are booked back-to-back with zero transition time, creating absolute chaos. The parking lot is a constant traffic jam with one group trying to leave while another arrives. Inside, the changing areas are a zoo with kids literally pushing each other to get their belongings while parents wait in the designated area. Classes routinely start 5 minutes late and end 5 minutes early - that's 10 minutes of instruction time lost just to accommodate their overcrowded schedule. I brought this up politely, but my concerns were completely ignored. After two years, my child still hasn't learned the basics: proper stances, how to punch correctly, or even simple defensive moves. Instead, she spent time running obstacle courses, practicing phone numbers she already knew backward and forward, and getting lessons on cleaning up after herself and helping parents. I don't need to pay premium rates for things I teach at home. The overcrowding got ridiculous. One freezing day (19°F with 35mph winds), we had to park a full 7 minutes away from the building. We brought this up stating that this has become a recurring issue. Our concerns were met with dismissal rather than understanding. Immediately after, our child developed a severe ear infection resulting in temporary hearing loss and antibiotics treatment. Children get sick for all sorts of reasons, but as a parent, this correlation was hard to ignore. So, our kid lost interest in martial arts. When we expressed our decision to leave the school due to these issues, instead of addressing our concerns or taking accountability, we were told to send a handwritten cancellation notice via certified mail 30 days in advance--a clearly designed inconvenience to deter cancellations and extend payment cycles. Ultimately, their practices do not reflect the integrity, discipline, or accountability they claim to teach. If you genuinely seek meaningful martial arts instruction for your child, delivered by people who actually embody these values, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere.
