His attitude was one of being bothered to have to give an estimate to such a lower echelon property, and NO ESTIMATE WAS EVER RECEIVED. It is disappointing to have to give a less than stellar review, because Cloudy Sky did some…read moreimpressive work on the first job I hired them for. Unfortunately the second job went much worse. Cloudy Sky would not stand by their work, which left me scrambling at the last minute to hire another crew to finish the job. The first job was to cut down a 50' Aspen tree in a relatively confined space. Cloudy Sky's bid was very competitive compared to the other bids, so I went with them. Cloudy Sky did a great job felling a tall tree into a very limited space, and they also did not destroy the lawn, which the other companies warned me they likely would. I do wish they had warned me that Aspens respond to being cut down by sending out underground roots in every direction and sprouting up tens of little suckers in my and my neighbors' yards. There are ways of avoiding this problem, but I didn't know about any of this until it was too late. But I can forgive this oversight, as Aspens are not native to this area and many people don't know about this problem. Based on this good experience, I hired Cloudy Sky to grind the Aspen stump as well as another massive Cedar stump. This job went sideways from the start. A Cloudy Sky estimator failed to give me the information I needed to prepare the area around the stumps, so when the crew arrived they couldn't do the job, which was really disruptive as I was having to coordinate with my neighbor to cross their property. After I prepared the area, and we rescheduled to have the crew come back, they did grind the stumps. But when I shoveled the wood chips out of the area, I discovered that in some places it was not as deep as the 6-8" below grade promised on the contract. In a few places, the stump was basically still at grade (see attached photo). I don't fault the crew for this, as there were a *lot* of wood chips that obscured the ground and made it easy to miss spots like this. But I am very unhappy that even when I sent them this photo, they wouldn't come back to fix the job. Worse, for several weeks they led me to believe that they *were* open to fixing it, so when I finally realized they weren't going to come back (they never explicitly said this, they just sort of ghosted me), I had to scramble to hire somebody else at the last minute before my landscaping crew arrived later that week. Unfortunately, this experience led me to conclude that Cloudy Sky will not stand by their work.

They even make site visits to make sure that everything is being done to standards or above. They have various positions that all lookout for a property, such as a master gardener, people with a background in ecology education relating to agriculture, a project manager, landscaper, leads and more. Now, there have been times that we have been unhappy because maybe they blew dirt but a simple phone call resolves all of this, and they are top-notch at resolving it just take a look at some of the properties that they landscape.

Andy's team worked hard to excavate the area, install the wall, lay down new gravel and make sure to clean up the yard when they were finished. Most contractors (in my experience) don't have the drive to ensure everything is perfect and how the customer wants/expects it to be. They come out to give an estimate, are nice and helpful but be careful once you hire them...IF you can get them to respond to your emails/calls. When Brett finally came out to cut some trees, his guy drove in my landscaping leaving a tire rut that now fills with water and ran over a plant killing it. When I pointed it out to Brett he got mad and said multiple times, angrily, they didn't do it, calling me a liar. He finally said they'd take care of it "but we didn't do it." I saw them do it. Weeks went by and no sign of them or contact. I sent them an email and now, after weeks, still no word. Apparently they don't need the money as their customer service is pitiful. There are plenty of tree services out there, stay clear of these guys!!

While the actual work they performed was done well, the business side of the experience was very disappointing and stressful. If you are planning to use this company for an insurance claim, make sure you fully understand the payment expectations upfront and have cash available before agreeing to any work. In my case, I never received a clear price before the work was completed. After the fact, I was presented with an invoice totaling over $12,000. I later had another company provide a quote for the same work, and their estimate was only $5,200 -- a huge difference. The most frustrating part has been the payment process with insurance. My insurance company sent payment directly to R&A Tree Service, but the amount was about $500 less than the invoice they submitted. Instead of working cooperatively through the insurance process, they immediately began discussing liens, interest charges, and additional pressure tactics while still requesting breakdowns and documentation from the insurance company. "I need this resolved immediately so we can avoid further escalation, additional costs, and continued lien enforcement proceedings." Again, the workmanship itself was good, but I strongly recommend getting 2-3 bids before signing anything and making sure pricing is agreed to in writing beforehand. If your project involves an insurance claim, proceed carefully and make sure you understand exactly how payment timing and billing disputes will be handled.
