Today, I picked up my first bespoke garment. I saw it peaking from the rack it was hanging, and I…read moreknew it was mine. The fabrication was definitely distinct. After the light frivolities, Mr. Seo pulls out my two-piece suit and accompanying dress shirt. WOW. What a masterpiece. All the usual refinements: peak lapels, contrasting boutonnière on both lapels, set of five surgeon buttons on each sleeve with contrasting last button, hacking pockets with a ticket pocket, and the list goes on. The specialities? * Holland & Sherry fabrication * Two-button double-breasted jacket * Roped shoulders The procedure: After agreeing to making a suit, Mr. Seo simply took over at my request. I mean, it IS his speciality. Before I even thought about it, he had a fabric in mind, and it was gorgeous. I was not ready, but he even had a shirt picked out to fit the entire ensemble. Next came my first fitting that took place February 19th. The suit's shell was constructed, and ready to mold to my body. It took Mr. Seo about an hour to chalk, pin, and notate about the suit to really make it unique and mine. Then the wait. Come today, I picked up the suit. No need for physical alterations, except for myself of course. The experience was something different altogether. True bespoke akin to England's Savile Row, I have yet to experience a piece of cloth thrown on me, chalked and pinned to my contour, until now. Approximate retail value is $4,590 plus tax. Definitely on the high end and for those with lucrative tastes, but you will not be disappointed. It will be quite some time before I have anything made again to this caliber, but it will happen again.

Mission accomplished! And NO sales tax on clothing in NJ! Boom! Wore it the next day and received so many compliments!

I couldn't believe how friendly and kind they were compared to staff at other athletic wear shops on the UES (like Bandier) where the staff did not even bother to say hello when a customer walked in. Nothing but good things to say about this Sweat Betty location. Wonderful customer service.

Update: past review still holds. Unfortunately I left my umbrella behind so I called and said I…read morewas from out of town but would be back when I could. They said they'd put it under the till, no problem. Well, when I got down in three weeks to pick it up, my favorite Missoni umbrella had been taken home by a staff member. She told me to drive down again tomorrow (luckily I had a visiting guest so although I would have preferred to be spared another two hour trip, I came again). No dice! They did send it in the mail thankfully, but the condition it was in was disappointing. I couldn't even tell what had turned the rubberized parts sticky and dissolved. It was grubby, wreaked of perfume and I guess someone got some good use out of it in the first raining weeks of spring. I'm not sure if I was glad to get it back or horrified. Perhaps the staff member just thinks ultra rich Manhattanites shop there which may be true for the most part given the prices, and thought whoever left it would never miss it. Oh well, my favorite brolly (which I'd kept in perfect condition for a couple of years at least) just got trashed in the shortest amount of time I would have thought possible for a good quality piece of gear. Original review: Many things to rave about this store. Great service from Stephanie (and also thanks for the patience at closing time!) who helped me choose something a little more exciting than I usually would. For some weird reason I am a super sensitive person when it comes to clothing. It has to be great fabrics, great fits. Sweaty Betty has great sports bras that don't make you want to rip it off as soon as you get home, so it's clear they are designed by someone who really has a clue about movement and comfort. The leggings are amazing. Just a great place to shop for top quality athletic wear that looks good on the street, too.
