Seeing quite a few contributions complaining about Tom, I couldn't help contributing my own…read moreexperience to correct the record! This past Sunday, my son had the pleasure of being road-tested by the very Tom Kaleta at the Lamphere High School testing site of Courtesy in Madison Heights, just next to Costco. After seeing my son being arbitrarily failed twice at another road-testing company in recent months (see more details here: https://www.yelp.com/biz/same-day-road-test-detroit), we are hesitant to come to do the road test at Courtesy, especially having read some of the not so pleasant feedback from some posters here. However, our experience with Tom has been nothing but joyful! Tom arrived right on time (10 minutes before the scheduled test) to set up the cones even though it was quite early in the morning. Tom is gentle, kind and easily approachable. He even tries to make small talk with my son to ease my son's nervousness. My son had a great time with both the parking and road tests. Unlike road testers elsewhere (again see above link for very bad experiences elsewhere), Tom never tries to trick you into failing. He wants to make sure that my son drives cautiously and safely. This is exactly what new drivers need. We are truly grateful to Tom's help that day. Thank you, Tom and Courtesy! Another benefit of taking the test at Lamphere High School for me personally is that when I waited for them to return from the road test, I got to walk around the nice trail in the city park right next, enjoying the morning fresh air with all the other people working out there on a Sunday!

Find somewhere else to sign up your child for the road test. I scheduled a road test in Lake Orion…read morethey called me while on vacation to cancel his road test saying they won't offer in Lake Orion anymore. They gave me a few different cities all which are far and not knowing I picked Bloomfield hills, upon searching it was 45minutes - 1 hour away. When I told them I want to cancel they said no refunds, ok we'll schedule me somewhere closer, they said they don't have anything in Rochester Hills or Romeo and won't know probably till mid September if there will be instructors. So it was their fault for canceling the Lake Orion location but you don't get your money back. I think they have all these locations but no instructors and you won't get your money back even if they cancel.

We're in the process of getting our son signed up for driving classes. The Process in Michigan is…read moreso different from what we're used to and luckily when I called courtesy driving school, Anna answered and spent so much time going over the process with me. She was so patient and walked me through all my confusion and listed everything else step-by-step Weil also giving me expert advice. What a valuable employee she is and a Godsend for parents who are already nervous about this stage in their child's life and having to navigate this process.

My student was in 4 week course & by beginning of week 3, she'd only completed 1 of 6 drive times…read more(no fault of her own). She scheduled her second drive during week 3, 8am session Thursday. Her drive partner (she didnt know the other student at all) & her both showed up for the 8 am drive. Their instructor (Mr Schultz) did NOT. There was another instruction (Mr Purwin) in the lot w/ other students. I approached him, asked for help, there was no one else to ask as it's a satellite site in Cadillac & main offices in Detroit area. I didn't know what to do. Purwin came over to our car, asked my child who their instructor was. I told him it's not right to put this on the kids, the adult isn't here & they are. It was a different instructor with them for this drive than they had the first drive (Mr Zeller same as her classroom teacher drove the 1st time with them). She didn't have new drive instructor contact, only her class teacher, he went to her partner's car. Purwin went back to his car, reached out to someone. I thought he was taking to me. I went over to his car. I apologized to the students held up with this debacle in his car. Then he said someone would contact us. I walked away, but I heard him making fun of me to the students in his car. I turned, asked if he was talking crap about me. He denied it. I walked away. He repeated his comments to the students in his car. I turned, asked him if he was talking crap (again), he laughed & denied it (again). The teenage boys in car with him laughing at me (with him). I went back to my car. I called number for missing instructor, left voicemail. I sent a text. My students classroom instructor called me. He told me "this has never happened before". I reiterated the inconvenience & confusion, stressful. Wasting everyone time, disruptive, how she's only been allowed to drive one time (of 6 times) and class is over in a week. I called Courtesy customer service right at 9am. I was put on indefinite hold by Mary, who told me the instructor was (simply) "double booked" and we'd reschedule. i told her this was being dismissive of the issue. I reiterated how the instructor is asked for help treated us like inconvenience, mocked me in front of the two other students. I hung up, called back, spoke to MJ. She was still Mary bullied to me and gave me a new name. Again, dismissed the issue, put me on indefinite hold. I hung up, called back again, got Xena. She told me to email the customer service to get escalated. No one replied to my email until 4am Monday. Schultz signed my student up to drive Monday & Tuesday 8am following week that day missed drive. He text my student about the Monday drive. Schultz called me about 5pm, said my student was driving Monday. I asked how what happened today was ok. He just told me to move on. Barely apologized. I reiterated confusion, upsetting, unprofessional the missed drive time was. I asked if she was driving Tuesday as well, he still seemed confused about drive times. He accused me of "berating" him. I asked how? By stating facts? You didn't show up for 2 students, wasted everyone's time. This stuff isn't cheap, it is a big time commitment, hard to get signed up. Instructors shouldn't be missing drives. He threaten to report my text to his supervisor. I said go ahead. He said do you want your student driving with me or not? Not really, but not much of choice, paid you $480, 3 weeks into a 4 week class. We showed up for the Monday 8am drive about 15 mins early. Schultz nowhere to be found at 754am. I text Morning! We're all here, waiting for you & he showed up several mins later. My student got out of the car, as did her partner. They went over to him. there was a third student there. He told them to put their things into the trunk. Schultz came over to me, said my student wasn't supposed to drive today! I was so confused. He said "no one spoke to you?" Obviously NOT! Y'all had time to find another student to take her spot for this 8am drive! Schultz called supervisor Dean Trudell Chief Operatimy Officer of Courtesy then came back over to me. Told me my student had been removed from the course! Schultz provided Trudells cell. I've called several times & it goes to voicemail. I've texted. I cannot get connected w Courtesy customer service via phone. I've called several times today, it says "user busy". They've punished my student for nothing that's her fault. They didn't behave professionally, missed a drive times. Then abused my student & me, turned and accused me of being abusive to them as the reason. They kicked my student out day prior to written test. They sent me 4am email at day of scheduled 8am drive to tell me she removed from class for "abusive" behavior! When I reported abuse! No return call from customer service, Friday. No text to her, me, a 4am email Monday (when we scheduled to drive at 8am). If I'm abusive, why didn't they assure I didn't come this morning to the 8 am drive?

I could almost cry writing this! My son has some confidence issues. Mild autism, and a muscle…read moredisorder which affects his gait and fine and gross motor skills. Let's just say he has a bit of an extra challenge. But I can't even express the power of amazing teachers!! Every single one of his teachers this year fostered his confidence. He's a shy child but, his teachers told me he was a top participant in his classes. They encouraged him and praised him and also assisted him to use his skills in unique ways. For example, an art project for my son is daunting. He gets very stressed. He doesn't have the coordination to cut and paste or anything intricate. His teacher worked with him and allowed him to use his computer skills instead. So he was producing videos and power point presentations in place of some of the assigned work. This entire year, I knew his teachers cared about him, and his grades and wellbeing. I am sure this is also a reflection of great leadership on the administration side of things as well! Nate went from struggling last year in virtual school to shining brightly! With his math and science teachers' encouragement he applied, and was accepted, into Utica's Center for Math Science and Technology! He also managed to get on the all A honor roll! Thank a teacher! They can make an enormous difference in your child's confidence! I can't believe I have a Freshman now!

Utica Community Schools rock! I have 5 kids that currently attend 2 of the schools in the district…read more My oldest is at the junior high, but because he is in 9th grade, he's in the matching band for Eisenhower High school. This school is as exceptional, as the rest in the district. When we sold our house back in April, our number 1 criteria for finding a new house was that it HAD to be in the Utica district. We bought a house in Slate August, just days before the start of the new year- and it WAS in the Utica district. So close to our old house that our kids did not even have to switch school. The teachers are amazing and willing to help and go above and beyond 110%! They are willing to meet at your convenience- if you ever need to talk or if you see your child struggling. The inside of the schools are always immaculate- even if there is 100s of kids spending 8 hours plus inside. I can't say enough good things about Utica Community Schools. I'm so pleased with the education my kids are receiving!

Try to contact them to get my 18-year-old daughter some driving lessons. First they refused to…read morereply to my email. Then when I had to call them, the guy answering the phone barely spoke English. No I'm not the type who demands everybody in this country speaks perfect English but if you're going to be teaching a bunch of students how to drive, they can't spend 99% of their time focused on trying to decipher what it is you're trying to say. They need to be able to understand you quickly and clearly and have an instructor who can articulate and give them calm directions. On the phone however, I was extremely rushed. He snapped at me and wouldn't even allow me to finish a single sentence. Then told me he would message me instead and hung up. I spent the next several hours trying to ask one simple question; were there vehicles dual controlled? I repeated this question at least five times. The same question I spoke in person and the same question which was in the email. The answer not on the web page. Repeatedly my message was read but I got literal copy paste answers and reply. In fact two different phone numbers were used to message me so I don't know what was going on there and they literally just kept copying and pasting the same thing. I even tried pointing out that they were messaging me from two different numbers but hadn't answered my question yet. They continue to dodge the question and give me copy and paste. When I insisted that they please answer my question which I had to repeat multiple times, they read my messages and never replied again. Not to mention they gave me a higher price until I pointed out their advertised price on the website at which point they gave a copy and paste message over and over and over about how that was supposedly what they meant the whole time. Seemed really eager to get my money and yet couldn't be bothered to answer one question. Very dodgy and very sketchy. Also everything they wrote sounded like a scammer. You know those sketchy emails you get where some Siberian prince or something promises you a whole bunch of money if you just give them your bank account number? Yeah it was written something like that. I gave them a multitude of chances to change my mind. All you're interested in is you sending a check really really quick. Also I should mention they only offer payment methods of which when you find out they are a scammer, you can't reverse those methods or dispute the charges. Lastly, look at the reviews. Positive or negative, they can't give people the time of day to reply with anything except an emoji. They literally use one of two emojis to reply to reviews. Not sure if it's because they can't understand English or just proving they can't give people the time of day. This is not how you run a business.
