Even though I grew up in South Florida, I now live in landlocked Tennessee and don't have as many opportunities to dive. On a recent trip back to South Florida I thought it would be a good idea to expand my training with getting my Advanced Open Water and Enriched Air certifications. Mike went out of his way to work around my limited schedule, addressed some of my equipment issues, and overall provided me a safe, educational, and enjoyable experience. Since that time, I've been back to Florida on several occasions and always look to No Shenanigans Diving and their great, close knit, group of local divers to help me get some diving in. I arrived to pick up an order and had to knock because the door was locked. The front desk employee, Candice, eventually let me in. She immediately asked for my order number in a very curt tone and snapped her fingers at me. She then told me the store was closed for a federal holiday (Juneteenth) but had still let me inside, which was confusing. When I politely mentioned that it was a relatively new federal holiday and that I wasn't aware of it and felt there are already enough federal holidays, she demanded that I leave the store. I asked her what I had said that was offensive and whether she was accusing me of racism. Instead of de-escalating or remaining professional, she escalated the situation, threatened to call the police, and said the matter would be taken further. Another customer who was present also got involved and called my comment insensitive. This turned a simple order pickup into a hostile confrontation. I later spoke on the phone with someone named Kenneth who confirmed he is also Black. I expressed my disappointment and asked for staff to maintain a more neutral and professional demeanor with long-term customers. As a longtime repeat customer, I expected basic professionalism. Instead, I was treated rudely and essentially kicked out over a calm comment about federal holidays. I've since learned I'm not the only customer who has experienced similar treatment from this employee. Dive Gear Express needs to address this issue with their front desk staff. This kind of interaction alienates loyal customers and reflects poorly on the business. I will be taking my future business elsewhere unless there is clear improvement in customer service standards.

I had been told that Ted Harty with Immersion Freediving was the go to guy if I was ever interested…read morein learning how to dive, but not being a diver (and I mean never diving) or a "professional" snorkeler (seriously only twice in my life) I never thought I would ever need a freediving instructor. Needless to say, when I was presented with the "opportunity" (please notice the punctuation) to take a private class it only made sense to take it from Ted, and now I truly understand how exceptional Ted truly is at teaching. Not only was the coursework extremely educational but Ted made it entertaining with personal stories, personal experiences and hands on training. Never would I have thought that the coursework would leave me wanting more and more knowledge about diving, how the body works and my number one priority how to dive safe and how to be a safe diving partner. Like I said above, I was not a diver at the beginning of this class, but Ted has so much patience (talking me through a panic attack just to even get my face in the water), he explained what he wanted me to do step by step and then would demonstrate it, by far the easiest way to learn. Ted never pushes you, it's on your schedule, your comfort level and when you're ready Ted is always right there with you. Ted gave me such confidence in myself and abilities that there are lessons I learned during this Immersion Freediving course that I will apply to my "above water life". I may not be the deepest diver, have the best, or any technique and still have a lot of learning to do, but Ted turned me into a freediver and now I am hooked. I can't wait to continue my diving education, increasing my depths, improving my technique and I guarantee I will be doing this only with Immersion Freediving and Mr. Ted Harty, no one else compares and I now understand why he is the best and will be my only recommendation to anyone wanting to learn to dive. Thank you Ted for truly being excited for what I accomplished over the course of five days, you made me feel awesome about myself and for opening up a whole new world to me. Your enthusiasm and passion for what you do is contagious and I look forward to working with you again. So stay tuned you have created a monster and I can honestly say if it wasn't for you I never would have had the "true dive" experience. Cheers to you and I will see you in the water chasing the most awesome feeling in the world.

Previous to taking this course, I was diving 35-40ft depths comfortably and could do a 2 minute static breathhold. Since taking this course with Ted, I was able to complete an 85ft dive and 4'25'' static breathhold in the pool. Simply amazing! I never realized how important equalization was at these depths and Ted has a skype session with every student before the class starts. The class size is limited to only 5 students, which is a big reason I took this course over other courses offered. Ted is a terrific instructor and was always focused on everyones individual needs, providing that "one on one" attention. The classroom sessions focused on safety, techniques and physiology. Safety was also a part of every ocean session and I learned a great deal. I was not a safe diver prior to taking this course, but now have the knowledge to easily adjust my diving style. We had a lot of dive time in the ocean and even more fun! Ted's dive boat "Sink Faze" was very nice and comfortable and much better than dealing with a big charter dive boat. I am very happy I decided to take this course with Immersion Freediving and can't wait to get back out in the water for further ocean training with Ted. Jason Rice Longboat Key, FL

I prepaid for a two-tank Nitrox dive approximately one week before the trip. When I arrived at the boat, there were no Nitrox tanks available for me despite my reservation and prepayment. Brad repeatedly counted tanks and passengers but could not determine why my tanks were missing. It was eventually discovered that another diver had taken the tanks I had reserved and paid for, set up his gear, and used them without having a prior reservation or payment. Rather than reclaiming the tanks that had been reserved for me, Brad arranged to use tanks that a friend happened to have in the back of his car. These replacement tanks raised several concerns. They were not properly labeled, had no visible inspection stickers, and there was no way for me to know when they had last been inspected, serviced, or how they had been filled. One tank had a damaged O-ring that required replacement before it could be used. Additionally, the replacement tanks were not secured when brought aboard. One fell over onto the deck, causing the valve handle to break off. This seemed to me that the handle had been corroded. I was also inconvenienced by having to reconfigure my gear to accommodate a steel cylinder instead of the tank type I had reserved. After the first dive, I set up for the second dive and discovered that my replacement tank contained only 2,500 PSI rather than a full fill. When I brought this to Brad's attention, his response was dismissive and unprofessional. I explained that I had reserved and paid for full Nitrox tanks and expected to receive what I had purchased. Rather than addressing the issue professionally, he became confrontational and aggressively stated that he would "comp the tanks." The most concerning issue occurred after the second dive. The boat began departing the pickup location while two divers were still in the water, visible at the surface with their dive flag. Brad had to shout to the captain that divers were still in the water, forcing the captain to stop and reverse course to retrieve them. Starting the engine and moving the vessel while divers are still in the water is an extremely serious safety concern and could have resulted in severe injury or worse. The trip concluded with passengers being required to climb approximately five feet from the boat to the dock using an unstable ladder, creating yet another safety concern. Overall, this operation appeared poorly organized and inadequately prepared for foreseeable issues. There were no readily available backup tanks, equipment handling practices were questionable, and customer service was lacking. Most importantly, several situations raised significant safety concerns that no diver should have to experience. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this operator.
