Irene specializes in handling sacred texts (clergy service books, family Bibles, and the like) by not only repairing & restoring the book, but actually making it even better with superior craftsmanship, handiwork and the highest quality materials. The price/value point for her truly unique service is excellent. My service book has enormous spiritual and sentimental value, so I am most grateful that it is now good to go for many more decades of rigorous use! One more observation: Irene also does binding of magazines into book form! For Baby Boomers who can recall reading long-past editions of various magazines either in the neighborhood library or in the college library when doing research, J&K Bookbind can take your collection of magazines and repurpose them into a "book format" thereby preserving them for years of enjoyment!

I found this company via google as they are the very few who offers bible restoration…read more There's one woman here, Irene, who has done this type of restoration for years. I didn't know if I could trust just anyone handling by beloved bible as this bible has sentimental value to me. They are located in San Marcos - or more Vista . They're in an industrial building at the end of a cul de sac. No issues with parking as they share parking spaces with neighbors. I met Irene. We went through various options and prices on what she could do with my bible. Basically, she takes the bible home and works on it there. I guess bible restoration isn't part of Golden Rule Bindery per se. There were 2 price options. $90 to restore and use synthetic leather (which mine had but was peeling off after 10+ years) or $90 + $70 if you want option of real leather I opted for the $160 which, in hindsight, is a lot of money for one bible. Sis said I coulda bought 11 bibles for that amount but hey, none would have had the notes or sentimental value I've collected over the 10y right. Irene had my bible ready in less than 1.5 weeks! The new brown leather feels great. And the bible, now, feels sturdy and strong. I'd recommend this company if you have a bible that you want restored (and can afford to do so).

There are so few left with this suite of skills. I have used them for years for pamphlets, hard cover books, pamphlets, and restoration. They meticulously track a job until it leaves the shop. Shipping the job is done with care. I shudder to think of their hanging it up! Stan

Unless you've been living off-Earth for the last few years, you're well aware that analog storage…read moremedia (aka books) are on the road to obsolescence. This also means that businesses that support said storage media are also on that same road. So it was with some concern that I came across a first edition of Following the Equator (1895) - while the pages were in excellent condition, the spine was, to be kind, trashed. So I set about finding a rebinding solution - and discovered that the businesses close to me that offered this service are no longer in business (see first paragraph). A bit further out was SD Bookbinding. I read through the reviews and, while most were positive, a few people called out the rudeness of the owner. But....beggars can't be choosers - so I called up, talked to the owner (Don), and with address in hand, drove down to El Cajon. I talked with him for a few minutes - he showed me the issues with the book, as well as what was great about it. He then explained what he'd do to resolve the issue, gave me a fair price, and a time frame. A few days inside said time frame, he gave me a call and let me know it was ready to go. I drove down, and he walked me through the process of what he'd done, and showed off the end result - which was, frankly, stunning. I found Don to be cordial, FULL of knowledge, fair, and incredibly talented - so yeah, I highly recommend him to those who actually still read analog storage media AND have older books that need some TLC.
