This is definitely a stand up company! I started having problems in February the week before I was…read moreto go in for Knee Surgery. They were so busy but fit me in their schedule. They were at my house at 7PM! I had a backed up drain in my laundry room! The owner came out and got it to drain. Barely 30 days later it happened again! I called and once again they fit me into a busy schedule even though they were only getting paid a small fee as I have a warranty. Now 2 weeks later after washing a load of clothes it backed up again! I was so irritated! Once again they were slammed so this time I had to wait 3 days. They sent out the technician that I like, so courteous and willing to listen to me! The office insisted on doing a camera, which my warranty doesn't cover and I'm still home bound recovering and out of work! I just couldn't afford it! The technician agreed to try snaking it this last time and instead of just going out 40 feet as he did the previous time, he went out 110 feet! Everything was cleared! I hope to not see them for 6 months! ‍ such a relief! I live in the heart of Crystal Lake with 200 year old trees! I'm new to backups but this guy put me at ease! At least I know next time is far away!

I had a hotwater heater go out in our new (to us) home this weekend. We have an AHS policy. The…read moreheater was a 75 gallon rheem heater - so it was big. Priced online new as over 1200 bucks from nextag and multiple vendors. AHS covered the heater replacement. Those with home warranty policies know they're called casino policies sometimes - but I was shocked that the full amount was covered. Pleasant suprise after reading these reviews and expecting the worst, but my policy covered what it said it would cover What is not covered in any such baseline policy though is the piping to and fro. My house is over 100 years old, so there was significant work to be done. I may upgrade to the next level policy this year that does cover the connections. Big John from Choice came out to my house in the north suburbs from Schaumburg. The night before the appointment the office called and ask if we'd be home between 10 and 2. John was at my house at 9:50. Good start. He assessed the issue, wrote up a quote on the not to exceed figure for replacing the piping with proper components that don't rust. He explained the current piping was functional but likely contributed to my heat breaking do to a mismatch in material for the dialectrics. Several valves, tee joins and general copper piping needed to be replaced. Heater was ordered for pick up and installation was to be next day. Office called that night - asked for a window between 10 and 2. Big John and teammate Mike came in to get the job done. They lifted out the beheameth, brought in the new one, and several hours later we had hot water. Total work was 495 on the quote for all the pipework. It looks great, definately worth it. We ended up not having to have a new flu put on, so after my invoice was recieved by the office they cut a check to me for the difference and I had it this afternoon when I got back from work. So all in - GREAT WORK. From the front office to the assessment to the installation, these guys rocked it. I was expecting non-rocking just given the economy and I wasn't sure how the home warranty would work - but it rocked. I understand everyone has their own experiences, and that these policies often cause frustration when people think they cover entire jobs when they do not, but I would consider that framework when assessing the commentary from the postings below. Good work fellas! I'll hope not to have to see you soon but my boiler is over 30 years old so we'll probably touch base this winter.

They told me they would get back to me as far as why nobody had shown up. They never called back so I called them back an hour later and got the same answer - still checking into it 2 hours later. I never ended up getting a call back and ended up going with another local plumber. I would never trust a contractor to do work with my home that is this disorganized and unprofessional. You would think in this economy people would be begging for work, but I guess not.

Any negative reviewers are either psychotic or talking about other Brown Plumbing companies. It…read morecan't be this one. I have used this company numerous times over 15+ years and never received anything less than first class, highly professional service. They never lift a wrench without first going over the price, what's covered, the warranty, etc. and having you sign off on it. LJ Brown is not the cheapest but they are as professional as they come right down to their paper booties. They stand behind their work. Right now they are replacing my two-year-old grinder ejector pump for FREE. They made this ugly job a priority and came first thing. If it breaks during the next three years, they'll come back again. First thing. For free no less. Try beating that.

This review is really zero stars -- avoid LJ Brown at all costs. There are plenty of plumbers you…read moreshould hire. This isn't one of them. I hired a plumber to handle several small tasks in connection with a new condo purchase. The company refused to provide estimates, and on arrival quoted outrageous prices. $80 for a showerhead installation (with my part). $312 to clean a drain (I declined after seeing this price). I went ahead with the work figuring, at these prices, the plumber would get it right. Wrong. He destroyed a kitchen sink side sprayer before realizing my replacement wouldn't fit the water line (my fault for having the wrong part, but he is supposed to be the union plumber here -- and zero stars to the Home Depot associate who said the part was universal). He also destroyed the faucet cartridge attempting to reverse the direction of the hot/cold flow, claiming he could not reinstall the part and would have to use a new one. He then replaced from his parts on hand (for $212) without correcting the hot/cold water reversal. Since the side sprayer was now destroyed, the sink would have to remain off until I could get a new compatible part, which he offered to install when he returned -- for $300 or so. This coversation had the feel of a shakedown. Instead I found another plumber to replace and fix it -- for $40. But as it turned out the cartridge was installed incorrectly and leaked. So I just replaced the faucet with a better one. A fix to a water line was also botched, causing an existing leak to worsen. Another plumber has fixed it, correctly this time. The new showerhead is also leaking. In short, for $600, the plumber made everything worse than when he started. I wrote and called looking for satisfaction, calling back each time something broke that the plumber had just "fixed", and was roundly ignored. Interestingly, I did not get any response of any kind until the 30-day warrranty period had passed. I finally got some response when I asked for money back and threatened a BBB complaint. The response was, in short, "screw you". So I filed a BBB complaint. The owner of the business has resolutely refused to speak with his customer and learn the facts. He did reply to the BBB complaint with a raft of ad hominem attacks. You can see them below -- this is the mentality of LJ Brown. I will note that the BBB closed the case because I told them to. The point of the filing was to warn people about this awful business, not to collect money, There seem to be a few LJ Brown customers who have not encountered incompetence and indifference. I experienced both. But even if you were to get good service, LJ Brown will bill you much more than other plumbers (as I've since discovered). So the bottom line is, LJ Brown is overpriced and employs at least one roundly incompetent and most likely dishonest plumber. The owner of LJ Brown is happy to take the money and run. I consider it a $600 lesson in using Yelp BEFORE I select a service provider. Do not use LJ Brown. And feel free to let them know I said so.
