I was checking for a pizza place near where my wife was working in Sylmar this evening. A two minute walk from the Rite Aid is a pizza place called Ameci. I ordered a 10" individual chicken pesto pizza to go. It was ready in 10 minutes. I love the chicken and pesto combination. Unfortunately, the dough did not match to pesto sauce, chicken and cheese on the pizza. The dough had no flavor and lacked the crunch. This is not a NY style pizza. It's just a regular pizza that has a chewy dough. It's missing the Wow factor. DJ's rating: 2.75/5.00 Would I come back? No.

Placed a pickup order, and it was ready in just 15 minutes. The pizzas are incredibly tasty. I regret not getting more of the cheese bread. Just a heads up, there's no seating here, but it's perfect for pickup and delivery. Both the Glendale and Granada Hills locations in addition to the Sylmar location, have consistently impressed me.

I was impressed with the pizza but now wish we had paid more attention to what we had been eating. When going for the sandwich, the lettuce was in chucks instead of slices and tomato was really thick, so we decided to rearrange everything. Then we discovered the bad meat we were about to eat. So incredibly gross. They also knew better, so that's incredibly effed up to know how little they care about their establishment let alone their clientele. Speaks volumes and we'll never, ever order from here again.

Service and food were great. We tried the mango habanero wings, French fries, spaghetti and meat sauce, and a meat lovers pizza. The pizza was really good, meet sauce tasted fresh and the wings were the perfect crisp with the sauce.

The owner, Antonio, told me about his wife and their three daughters, and how they don't have family here, so it's just the five of them - all while he is working hard and building this business. That alone gave me such a soft spot for their family. But on top of that, the amount of love, care, and effort he clearly puts into both the food and the customer experience is incredible. Antonio was so accommodating with my daughter, who is an extremely picky eater. He made her a simple pasta with butter, and she absolutely loved it - which almost never happens. He also recommended the panna cotta because he said little girls always love it, and he was right. Maya was obsessed with it. The food was delicious, the service was impeccable, and the atmosphere felt so warm and genuine. Definitely recommend - this man and his family deserve all the business.

When we walked in, it had a warm, down home feeling, almost like two small restaurants combined into one cozy space. The food was fantastic. My friend ordered a shrimp salad, which is pictured below. It was fresh, colorful, and loaded with shrimp, not just a few on top. I started with a salad with honey mustard dressing and I loved it. Simple, but done right. My friend also had chicken fettuccine with broccoli, and they absolutely smothered the plate. You can see it in the pictures below. It looked like comfort food in the best way. I ordered the chicken parmesan with vegetables. The portion was generous, the chicken was cooked perfectly, and the sauce was seasoned just right. The vegetables on the side were a nice touch and not an afterthought. Everything on the table tasted like it was made with care. The only downside, which is really a compliment, was the bread. They brought out bread that was warm and addicting. My diet did not appreciate it, but I did. It was very hard to stop eating it. The staff was very attentive. They checked on us regularly, refilled drinks, and made sure we had everything we needed without hovering. The whole experience felt relaxed, friendly, and welcoming. Good food, good service, and a very nice atmosphere. I will definitely be back.

PARKING valet is available, but we found street parking on ventura blvd. FOOD 01. squash blossoms ($21 for 5 pc): 8.3/10 these were crispy and light, delightful to eat on their own without the tomato marinara sauce served on the side. casalena's squash blossoms had a strong, lovely hint of lemon that wasn't present in mother wolf's rendition. 02. chicken piccata ($29): 7.5/10 this main was served with a generous helping of potatoes mashed into a delicious velvet. 03. vodka lumaconi ($25): 9/10 this dish was the standout of the evening! the pasta shells were cooked al dente and coated in a slightly spicy, perfectly savory vodka sauce! casalena does not skimp on the sauce in any of their dishes! 04. tagliatelle ($29): 7/10 this pasta dish was not nearly as impressive. 05. tiramisu ($15): 7/10 since we mentioned the dinner was for a special occasion in our reservation, this dessert was served with a candle. while its presentation was lovely, its taste was underwhelming. the espresso was extremely subtle, and there was more madeline than mascarpone/cream. overall, our party of 4 was fully satiated after splitting 1 appetizer, 3 mains, and 1 dessert. service was lovely throughout! and as another yelpie mentioned in their review, their matchbook is very nice.

At the time it felt like a…read morewelcome clone of Piccola Trattoria dropped into the most suburban location imaginable, a strip mall across from Del Taco and a grocery store. It was good news for those of us in the neighborhood who wanted something better than chain Italian without driving across town. Four-plus years later, the real test is simple: do you keep coming back? We do. Regularly. That says more than any early review ever could. Piccola Osteria has quietly become our neighborhood standby. It's the place we go when cooking feels like a chore but we still want a proper meal, not takeout that tastes like it came from a food factory. Over the years we've worked our way through most of the menu, often more than once, and the consistency is what keeps us returning. The appetizers remain strong. The polpette are exactly what they should be: simple, flavorful meatballs in a good marinara. The carpaccio is fresh and bright with arugula and lemon. Prosciutto with burrata is hard to mess up if the ingredients are good, and here they usually are. The arancini with braised short rib are still one of the better starters on the menu. The pastas continue to carry the kitchen. The gnocchi Sorrentina are reliably soft and comforting. The fettuccine Bolognese tastes like a sauce that has had time to develop. The tortelloni di brasato and the pumpkin tortelloni are richer options that never disappoint. And when we're in a seafood mood, the linguine vongole or spaghetti pescatora usually hit the mark. The secondi are solid as well. The osso buco is consistently good, and the branzino is fresh and often filleted tableside, which still feels like a small luxury in a neighborhood restaurant. Service has also held up well. In all the years we've been coming here, we've only had one off night where the service felt disorganized. Otherwise it's been friendly and attentive. Another subtle but encouraging sign: some of the staff speak Italian, and you can actually exchange a few words in Italian if you're inclined. That's usually a decent signal you're not in a completely Americanized version of the cuisine. The menu still leans broadly "Italian" rather than regional Italian. There are a couple of concessions to American expectations, like spaghetti and meatballs or a Caesar salad, neither of which you'd typically see in Italy. But restaurants in suburban California have to meet their customers where they are, and those dishes clearly keep the tables full. If I still had a wish list after all these years, it would be the same gentle nudge: it would be great to see the kitchen rotate in a few seasonal or regional additions. Something like pici with wild boar ragù, trofie with pesto, or a few rustic polenta dishes would be fantastic. Italian cuisine has endless regional depth, and even a few rotating specials would add another dimension. The wine list remains reasonably priced, which is refreshing. Markups aren't outrageous, and the cocktails are well made. The White Negroni in particular is worth ordering. At the end of the day, Piccola Osteria has proven something more valuable than novelty: reliability. In a neighborhood where most dining options lean toward chains and fast casual, having a small place that consistently delivers honest Italian food is something worth appreciating. Not bad for a little osteria hiding in a strip mall across from Del Taco. Sometimes the most dependable neighborhood restaurants are the ones you almost overlook.

A great Italian spot!…read more Despite a busy night, the service was warm and welcoming. Our main server was great, but it's always a great sign when other servers come to check in on you too. The space is quite large, but a bit cramped. We were seated in a a patio-like space towards the back of the restaurant. We ordered the calamari, Mezzelune di Crostacei, and Tortelloni di Brasato. The calamari is highly recommended. It was fresh, lightly fried, and paired well with the sauce. The Mezzelune di Crostecei was amazing. The ravioli was perfectly cooked and the juices from the shrimp and scallop made it a perfect bite. The only disappointment was the Tortelloni di Brasato. The herb cream sauce was delicious and the pasta was perfectly cooked. However, the short rib filling was akin to a beef puree and several of the tortellonis had very little filling. Overall, I had a great experience and looking forward to try other menu items!

We came by on a Sunday around 4:30pm and they were already out of a few items, so do come early to make sure you can order your first choice. Sadly, two of the main dishes we actually wanted to try were 86'd for the day , but I guess that just means they are THAT good (the Sunday Night Lasagne and Ricotta Cavatelli) Ok so first off the restaurant itself is very pretty and open. The bar area which allows you to sit on either side- indoor or outdoor is a nice touch. For the appetizers, we tried the calamari and the grilled bread (they were out of house made focaccia). For $5 you can add a side of whipped ricotta topped with pistachios, honey, balsamic, olive oil. GET THIS! Delicious. The calamari was also very good- super light crispy batter. For the entrees, we ordered our second choice items- Spicy Rigatoni Vodka and strozzapreti. The pasta is FRESH and cooked perfectly. The flavor profiles on both also hit the mark The margherita pizza is also good- the dough is thin and not too saucy. Just right! If you are going to order dessert, you must order the butter cake. It's seasonal so they switch it up about every three months but I have no doubt that whatever version they have it will be a winner. This time is Banana caramel and OMG sooo good.
