Great, friendly gun store and range. Lots of inventory of guns. Negative reviews are hilarious. They close the range earlier than the store to make sure everyone is out before closing . Someone else wants free gun lessons when they come to shoot and yet another doesn't realize Glock has a special discount program for law enforcement. read more

I walked on over on 42 and asked about classes to learn about getting a gun and learn to shoot and they gave me the lady's card and pamphlet and talked to me about it a little. I said thank you and left and sat in my car and called to see about taking a class on guns a the trainers son gave me her number. I called to talk and ask questions and all she would say is go on line and look at the classes and you sign up there. I kept asking questions and she just basically told me everything is done on line and I had to do it on line only. I told her I am not good with computers as far as signing up. Well she still told me I had to look it up on line. She must have plenty of business because she didn't want my business. Now everyone on the inside was nice and great but her I am not a fan at all I would not recommend anyone that will not spend 5 minutes to explain the process to a newbie to guns. They don't care about the customers. I've given them 4 or 5 chances and most of my experiences have left Me with a negative opinion. They'll have certain guns they they will only sell to the police and not have any available for the general public'. We've been on that range for a few times, in fact I bought my Taurus tx-22 from them. They were always great.

I've been shooting for a long time. I've been to many ranges across the country. I've read many of the negative reviews for this range, and it seems to me that the customers' attitudes may have a lot to do with the bad review. Anyway, I am new to this area, and found them online. I was pleasantly surprised to find they were open on a Sunday, but for limited hours, which is understandable. The place is well-located and easy to find. Plenty of parking. I was a bit shocked to see how many cars and trucks were parked in the parking lot. I knew what that meant. Waiting. For a lane. The place is attractive, modern, well-stocked and well-kept. Prices for shooting and for ammo were reasonable. $18 for 50 rounds of 9mm.... very good. Since it was my first time, I had to go thru their 'safety briefing', which is basically watching a Youtube video. It wasn't too long, and gave a good idea of what is expected of you at the range. I think they should go ever further to make sure that everyone shooting is cognizant of their rules and knows how to handle their firearm. One reviewer complained because apparently he walked into the range, right past the sign that said in 8 inch bright yellow letters "NO RAPID FIRE", and was politely asked to leave when he commenced rapid firing. Come on, man! Everyone who has ever been to the range knows that is not acceptable. There was a wait. they have 20 lanes, and there was about 10 people waiting. That was OK, and gave me time to look around the store. Some of their stock is over-priced, like the mag-loader I bought for $35. Anyway, the range equipment was great. Clean, easy to use and modern controls for placing your target down range. Good lighting and most importantly GOOD VENTILATION! All of the staff that I interacted with was very good. Attentive, knowledgeable, and NO ATTITUDE. In my many years going to various ranges, my main complaint has been the condescending and patronizing attitude of some of the staff members. The lady that ran the range counter was very nice, and had a great memory. The rest of the guys I spoke with were also good. MY ONE COMPLAINT!!! Their computers systems were down. This has apparently been a chronic issue for them. Couldn't get my membership card, and you can't reserve range time online. Come on, guys! Make that a priority! First Visit to AmChar for a range session. Nice looking store. They seemed very busy, but a bit disorganized. I believe they were having a computer issue which could explain the slow service. Prior to my visit, I reviewed the range rules. There is no prohibition, on rate of fire. There is however, a "no rapid fire" message on the range door that I missed, as someone opened the door for me, as I entered the range. After a few strings of safe, rapid fire downrange all on target. I was approached and asked politely to leave. No warning about the policy. Just you broke our rules you have to go. They did not charge me for the lane, just one target. Not the best customer service experience, the likelihood of me returning to this establishment is zero. Would not recommend, although the staff was polite, I just wish it were handle better. I would suggest making the "no rapid fire" rules more prominent. It's very easy to miss the signage. I hope other customers don't have the same experience, as I do want this type of business to succeed. read more

For some odd reason, my husband has insisted on being a patron of this establishment multiple times for firearm purchases. However, I was less impressed by the piss poor customer service experience and overall rudeness of the staff. Well, today he experienced first-hand exactly how horrible their service truly is. I refused to accompany him inside the facility because of my personal disdain while he proceeded to pick up a layaway item. The guy assisting him was clearly under pressure by his fellow teammates as they were very harsh with their comments. My husband paid cash for the item and the guy forced him to walk outside to extract a dime from the car. The issue is not 10 cents, instead it's the lack of professionalism within the staff members, lack of maturity and clearly inadequate conflict management. The owners really need to focus on improving the customer service experience if they wish for customers to return. As I sat in the car waiting for my husband to return, I read many negative reviews specifically about their customer service and I can see why. We will NOT return! read more

Customer service screws this place. They have a great selection, and a few of the employees are helpful, but all it takes is one good ol' boy to ruin the experience for me. They obviously need the public as they once closed their doors to the public and only served law enforcement, but soon reopened to the public. Told their range is closing at 4:30 but the store is open until 6..it is what it is. I'll take my money out to Godard's in Midtown or even the Army Navy store in Stockbridge. read more

Okay so my experience was shaky. I would recommend it if you are a gun owner and actively know how to shot. So my family came down for the holidays being from NY people don't shoot, but everyone wanted to try the place I normally got to is closer to the city and I was trying to avoid that due to the holiday. I thought it was routine that if your a new to shooting that they would at MINIMUM teach you the basics to make sure you don't harm yourself or others. Now, we disclosed that almost everyone was new to shooting. The is a young African American women. I would recommend ONLY to people who are experienced. She is TERRIBLE/ NASTY/RUDE and honestly bad for business because she is the reason I will not be going back. The moment we told her they never went shooting before she was rude. We asked her to show them safety and loading and deloading and she literally said no. Handed my sister a 9mm and told her to "figure it out." LIKE WHAT!?! She literally said to her why come to a shooting range if you can't shoot!!!! Unmmm duhhh to learn to shoot!!! N like I said the place I usually goes to is always packed but always teaches the basics and very hard on Gun safety and respect which I respect and love unlike this women. Finally another African American male came over and was amazing. Taught everyone what they needed to know. No problem and explain a lot. Definitely recommend him. I'm sorry I didn't get names. The wrote us out but not one incident or problem happened, one of the regulars did something to make himself bleed everywhere. So I am proud of them for being so great and learning definitely something we could not have don't in NYC. But honestly that lady needs to maybe rethink her job if she just okay giving people weapons so they can figure it out. read more

Any "specialty" store has the likelihood of being uninviting and gun stores are no exception. This is certainly not the case with AmChar. The staff is friendly and welcoming, the selection and prices are great and the facility is nice to boot. The indoor range is modern and well kept. All in all it is a "go to" place. read more

I don't know which AmChar these other reviewers visited but we had a very disappointing experience. The building is attractive but it ends there, and the appearance of any sort of professionalism quickly evaporates. From outrageously long and SLOW lines at every counter, to being out of stock on all four types of ammunition we wanted to purchase, to high prices on EVERYTHING (we understand guns and ammo. are at a premium, but their prices on ear protection, cleaning supplies and other accessories are also astronomical), to lesser but equally frustrating aspects such as not allowing our group to have two adjoining lanes and not allowing ANY photography on the lanes. We had a group that was getting acquainted and we had to repeatedly walk from lane 2 to lane 10, at the other end of the range, and were not allowed to take any photos to document the occasion. I'm sure they have a justification for everything, and you may run your business any way you wish... but with the number of other, much more accommodating gun ranges in the area, we won't be back and we will recommend others look elsewhere also. read more
