This is the second time coming here and the workers here are no where near like the one in Plainville CT. The first time i was charged for carmel popcorn then after was told their wasn't any the refund didn't go back to my card instantly. First time back in a theatre in a long time. I've always enjoyed this theatre. No more. I didn't want to believe the latest reviews that said it has gotten old and run down, and upon first walking in and smelling that sweet smell of popcorn, I was looking forward to the evening. The first thing I noticed was the expanded concessions menu. They have Impossible chik n nuggets! I've never purchased anything other than popcorn, candy and a drink at the movies but it was nice to see the vegan choice. It was also nice that they still offer free large refills on popcorn. The prices certainly warrant it. Since we had about 10 of us, we went for the party pack which included 2 large popcorns, 2 choices of candy and 2 drinks all for $35. The theatre was clean as were the public areas including rest rooms. It was also great to see that they cleaned up the self service drink areas and put in new machines! They still give you a choice of a zillion flavors, as well as a few frozen drinks. read more

Great place to watch a movie, right off a highway exit in southington. I believe this is a great location. Ample parking. Love the vibe of here with the concession in the middle. I assumed all the poor reviews were true, but am glad that I checked it out for myself. The employees were beyond friendly. Really helpful and cheerful. The projection, sound, and reclining chairs all worked flawlessly. The audience was well-behaved at a Sunday matinee of "Oppenheimer" (awesome movie, btw). Yes, the interior could use some updating, but the movie theatre business was devastated during COVID. I can be patient for them to recover somewhat before investing big money on a refresh. Only one of the ice machines was working, so that was a minor issue. Otherwise, it was a great experience, and way better than the negative reviews from 2022 and earlier. read more

At first it's like waking into an outdated 80"s Cinemaplex, but once you get past the concession stand you find inside the actual theatre is a little more updated and trendy. We are particularly fond of the comfy seating; soft leather feel reclining seats with plenty of space between the isles. The best part was, Very easy online ordering of tickets. It's a chance to be a kid again and enjoy the experience!!! WW84 movie however was a bust, not what was expected at all....I can watch a love story at home in bed!!! read more

I have been coming to this theater for 20+ years. Pros: Quick service Online ticket purchase makes everything easier Bathrooms are always clean Concession is good Cons: Rare broken chairs in theaters(makes assigned seating more difficult) Employees are devoid of any personality Main lobby is extremely smoky(maybe from popcorn machine?) I have to bring up that A LOT of movie goers are using their phones during movies lately causing a huge distraction. The bright light even on the lowest setting is enough to make me turn my head during a movie and shake it in disapproval. Speaking up to them personally during a showing would only exacerbate the situation so I try and ignore it. I would very much appreciate if AMC started enforcing the no phone use policy, either through preemptive confiscation or use of other options like Yondr. Overall my experience is fair to good but disrespectful movie goers who use their phones during showings has become a huge problem during EVERY movie lately and needs to be addressed by the business. read more

I took my wife and son here to watch a movie recently and I was surprised that a AMC theater would be this outdated and falling apart. A decent amount of lights were out in the lobby the rugs smelled like they haven't been washed or vacuumed for a long time the workers barely noticed any customers and just walked passed us while we were waiting in the concession stand and when we made it to the actual theatre for our movie every single seat had all the seat cushion leather backing rubbed right off to the ugly yellow stuffing liner behind the leather and smelled horrible so much so that half way thru the movie we just left. I still remember the days when this was the desolate, run-down movie theater that my friends and I hung out at every weekend. My first date was here. I'm pretty sure this was one of the first places I drove to. Well somewhere along the way it got a major facelift because now it's often sold out, and everyone wants to go to the theater with reclining chairs. I came with friends to see the new Jumanji remake, and I was stunned by the transformation. There is si much legroom, and the seats are so cool and comfy. I can imagine a lot of moviegoers easily falling asleep in them. My husband and I were able to move the arm up and turn it into a little reclining bed for maximum movie cuddles. Surprisingly, the tickets are reasonably priced by CT standards, and on Tuesday, all tickets are $5. I've since moved away but I would have no problem making this theater my go-to. read more

This place has gone downhill. It looks run down and beat up. The people Working the ticket counter failed to mention to the line of people that there was a self serve ticket system by their counter which would have helped to cut down on ticket wait times. I was excited to see the snack selection. In addition to candy and the typical movie garbage they had some healthier more whole options AND a keto option - cello whisps! The theater I was in had the big reclining arm chairs which was an awesome treat. The full theater was frustrated when 15 minutes into the start time of the show the movie, trailer, preroll had t started. I had to go find someone to start our movie. I suppose I could understand the lapse if there were like 6 people in the theater, but there was 150+ and a LOT of them were kids. The staff is always helpful and accommodating, but the theater is in rough shape. Seats are torn up, cup holders are dirty, and soda machines are always dirty and not working properly. There is also an issue with moths flying around in the theaters. I have been going to this theater for as long as I can remember, and it's sad to see the state that it is in right now. Came here first time. Using up gift cards. Sooooo glad we had them. Would never come back. Place is run down. 3 of the 4 soda machines didn't have ice and the "coke" from them tasted like watered down Pepsi. Chairs are run down too. Most notably the arm rests. Gonna stick with Apple cinema that we go to even if we still have gift cards for this place. Had to edit as I wrote that while waiting for the movie. Movie "start" time was 1:30. Movie actually started at 2:00 due to all the previews and ads for AMC. Apple cinema usually runs 3 movie previews then the movie. This is definitely my go to movie theater in my local area. My recommendation to avoid crowds, come during the week. Tuesday's I believe is half off ticket prices. The seats are all recliners which make it enjoyable and relaxing to watch a flick. If you are a stubs vip member there is separate line that is apparently quicker than the regular folk line that I use. If you're paying cash, you pay the cashier directly. Otherwise, if you are paying with a card you use the touch screen. Concession prices are what most theaters charge, expensive. Also, they do not have small popcorn sizes, it is either large or regular. My favorite is the coke machine. You can choose from hundreds of flavors, and refill as often as you'd like. I'll definitely be back at this location next time I want to catch a flick! read more

This theater in Southington is dilapidated. The possibility of saving a few dollars a ticket is not worth it. The reclining seats are in a state of disrepair with peeling faux leather and some very obviously broken. The bathrooms were severely neglected. The mirrors were smeared w idk what. And a velvet rope in front of several stalls let you know they were not operational. The overflowing trash made it hard to believe the receptacles were emptied recently. The lobby looks like it hasn't been vacuumed in a very long time. Gigantic cardboard petitions were in place to lead you to the check-in desk. The arcade is no longer. It's unfortunate. This theater used to have such life to it. I imagine the pandemic hit hard but the lack of cleanliness is off putting. read more

One of my favorite hobbies is to go to the movies. This is my local movies theater and it is really nice. However I went to go see a rated R movie with my friend who was below 17. We were both unaware that if you are below 17 you cannot be let in. We bought the tickets online and throughout the whole process nothing came up that people below 17 would be stopped from viewing the movie. When we were stopped and asked for an ID we were supper confused because we have both seen Rated R movies at the same theater with no issues. When we asked why the worker said it was policy. I pulled out my drivers license and showed I was 17. However my friend I was with was 16. therefor we could not see the movie. When we said we had never had this issue before she said "some workers enforce it some don't, but it is our policy". There wasn't any issues but this information was unknown to us and the website still let us purchase tickets without a warning. Lucky for us we were able to swap movies. It should be advertised when buying tickets for a rated R movie on their website that they will prevented from entering the theater. Before giving up and swapping movies I also tried saying that since I'm 17 can he come in with me, however, someone under 17 can't be let in without being in the presence of someone older that 21. We then asked if his dad who drove us there could sign a form or give consent for him to watch and they said no. Their policy should be a known fact to all viewers purchasing rated R tickets. After the movie I went back on the website to try and see if we some how missed this information. on the top right of the screen there is a tiny tiny circle with a question mark in. when you click on it, it then tells you that you must be 17 years or older or have someone with that is over 21 to watch R rated films. even though this issue isn't huge there are plenty of ways around it. There should be a consent form a parent can sign for their kid if they are okay with them watching rated R movies. I still love this movie theater and go there on a regular basis, however this small hiccup really makes no sense to me because of lack of awareness and enforcement of this policy. read more

I wrote a review for the previous theater, but a new company has purchased this theater. Unfortunately this means that Fandango no longer lists movie times, but they are instead found on the movie theater's homepage: http://www.starplexcinemas.com/locations.php?theaterid=1036 I personally use the Flixster app for Android/iOS for showtimes here. Update: Fandango now lists showtimes! My previous review complained about the potholes in the parking lot... but those are gone! Update: They repaved the parking lot! The website also says that they are upgrading and converting to 100% digital. I saw The Raid 2 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 here in theater #8 which wasn't the best. The screen was relatively small, the sound was weak, it was a letdown in some ways. I just saw X-Men: Days of Future Past in theater #1 all the way to the left. This was a night and day difference. The screen in this theater was big, it was clear and the sound was much more powerful. The experience here was a marked improvement over my previous viewings. Price-wise this theater can't be beat. Older reviews complained of high prices, but those are gone now. It's only $7 for an adult ticket and $5 for discount days, student pricing, and matinee. The other good thing is that matinee is before 6pm while at the Brass Mill mall it's before 4pm. The Brass Mill mall is more expensive at $10.50 for regular adults and $8 for matinee. So for a couple to see a movie late at night, it's $14 here while it's $22 at the mall. That $8 savings adds up quick if you see a lot of movies. Food-wise, some snacks can get pricy, but they have $1 hot dogs now which was an eye-catcher. Plus I liked that they were not $1.06, but simply $1 hot dogs, which means no jingling change in the theater. These are actually decent little hot dogs and didn't upset my stomach at all, I had 2 and was content. They have also introduced a rewards program where you can earn points for money spent at the theater, 1 point = $1 spent and they'll take some time to earn as 50 points spent gets you a small popcorn, 100 is a small drink, 150 is a free movie meal, 200 is free nachos, and 250 is a free regular ticket. With the same low prices and newly improved screens coupled with new food and rewards programs, this theater is now one of the best around. Just watch out for the pot holes. read more

How shall I ever go anywhere else to see a movie now? This actually used to be our "go to" theater up until about 5 years ago, then it started going downhill a bit. We switched up to the Loews theater in Plainville, which was a bit farther away...but had sweet digital screens and stuff. Then one day someone's like "Omg the Southington theater has these like comfy reclining chairs now!" Those 2 words "comfy" and "reclining" were enough to get me back there. I'm not sure what they did...or how they're staying in business. There's less seats in each theater (with the big recliners taking up more room), and the prices are ridiculously cheap. But they're doing it, and it's pretty sweet. Still acceptably clean and well kept, and the chairs....dear god...the chairs. Only problem i see is that in a couple months EVERYone will find out about the place and you won't be able to get near it. Damn you society. read more

Giving it a four star rating. I always like to start with the positive. Price for a ticket is awesome. New reclining seats are also very awesome. Self Serve beverage machines fabulous! Now we get to the math. If I had to guess I would say that because of the awesome new comfy seats, that the capacity of the theaters has declined by about half (I could be wrong) So what does that mean to the average patron? Cheap tickets+comfy seats,+smaller theater capacity+established client base = demand outweighing supply. So if you have plans to go see a newly released movie on opening weekend and the movie is a decent flick and let's say the movie is scheduled to start at 7pm, the tickets will likely be SOLD OUT sometimes 30 minutes to an hour earlier. So then you say "No problem I will buy my tickets online" well the problem there is that on a Saturday the line for the machine that translates your online ticket to a theater ticket usually has 30-50 people on it. So you still have to come early. This weekend I went to see Bridge of Spies and the 7pm movie was sold out before the previous showing started and its a 145 minute movie. While it's too late to make a long story short, the bottom line is this, no matter what you are going to do, on a Saturday you have to come early and be prepared to wait on a line. Whether it be for a ticket, or to turn an online ticket into a real ticket or to get Popcorn because only half of the concession stand is operating so usually 15-20+ people online for popcorn. I'd like to have been the folks who did the business plan for this conversion of the theater, because the movies seem to be well attended on the weekends (when I go) and the snacks are selling robustly so can we do anything about all the lines? It gets tough to have to invest 3 to 4 hours of my time to see a 90 minute flick. One last thing, if you are a women and attending a movie in theater 1 or a man and attending a movie in theater 12, The walk to the bathroom takes forever and a day you have to walk 3/4s the length of the entire building and I always have to go at the good parts!! LOL I will still go to this establishment, as the positives outweighs the negatives significantly, but since the management reads these reviews I wanted them to get a customer perspective and understand the challenges of being Good vs. Great! read more

This may be the most negative 4 star review I've written. It's a good theater, compared to most theaters it's actually real good. It has power recliner seats, tickets are about 10 bucks. So that's all good and well. It just doesn't compare to some of the other AMC theaters (specifically the one in Plainville). That one is just in a class of it's own. It's like 2 bucks more for tickets, with stadium seats that have more recline, it feels like serious luxury. So, I'm jaded because AMC Plainville is just the greatest theater, but in all reality this one is pretty legit. read more

Terrible! Dirty! Reclining seats are terribly worn. No heat! Went to movie on April 29: froze! Requested that heat be put on ; to no avail. Felt like Air conditioning! If I could give a 0 , I would! Bathrooms are disgusting! My husband and I are not complainers , but this was terrible. I don't know what happened to Southington! We will not go back, we will check out Plainville. This is my favorite movie theater to attend with my family. Pros: I love using my AMC app here, recliner seats, roomy, fast paced, refill drinks machines on each end of the movie theater, the minute the movie you are watching is over the cleaning crew comes in and I love the $5 Tuesday's. Cons: bathrooms could be a little more cleaner, staff can be a little more welcoming, self serve area could be cleaner and snacks are a bit pricey. Over all if you are looking for a good theater for a date night or for the family. This spot is pretty good. read more

The first thing I noticed about this theater is they have a huge amount of parking in the back. Either this was an unrealized dream of popularity that never 100% arrived, or it had one heck of a hay-day. It's not crazy busy but the theaters do fill up quickly for new releases. Ordering ahead is a good thing. The theater is reasonably clean, and I have super high standards when it comes to that. It could use a little more attention, but for the most part, to my fellow attendees, stop leaving things on the floor! The food includes your standard popcorn and candy, as well as fried mozzarella and bagged kale chips. Remember to mention it to the cashier if you have a STUBS rewards card because no one at ticket or concession check-out asked me about it, and it didn't dawn on me until later that night I actually overpaid for tickets because of it. A learning experience for me, certainly. Next time I'll be ordering ahead and using the card number! read more
