ORIGIN: In the 1920s and 1930s opulent palace-like movie theaters were constructed. As part of Hollywood's Warner Bros collection of theaters, the Warner Theatre in Torrington was built in 1928, with doors opening in 1931. Both use and condition of the theater declined, ultimately leading to impending demolition in the early 1980s. A visionary group of community members created a non-profit to save the theater and raise funds for its restoration. Evergreene Architectural Arts and Sevigny Architects helped restore the surfaces that had been designed by legendary Thomas Lamb. Full restoration of the structure and internal systems was achieved and celebrated in 2002. CONCEPT: The restored Warner Theatre has expanded its activities beyond film screenings. Opportunities for patrons to see various performing arts, including dance, music, and plays, are now available within the original theater and surrounding spaces. The Warner just seems to get better and better. It's a lovely theater inside (over 90 years old now) with all the refurbishings and renovations and draws some fine shows from all over includingYep, it's the large men's room locally produced activities like the Nutmeg Ballet and dramatic productions. The seats are pretty comfy, sight lines are good, there's a decent bar, and the restrooms are amazingly big and clean (maybe it doesn't matter to you, but if it does you'll like these a lot). Parking in the area can be a bit taxing especially when it's close to showtime, but there are restaurants nearby to ease everything. We like the Warner -- it's a genuine asset for this area of Northeast Connecticut. read more

It has been around since 1930's built by Warner Brothers Studios and between a huge flood, foreclosure and a almost demolition the theater(1980s) it was revamped and bought by a group that seen its future and worth. Now open to year round performances for performance art education programs for grades K-12 and some of the top names shows around it was worth the 20 year fixer -up to its now stylish and enhanced features and upgrades . Today I watched my Goddaughters recital grade 1 ,but watched over 50 other( one min ) performances from other grades in the same recital. We saw a very funny comedian here. Their is convenient parking either on the street or in a lit that is just a short walk away. Good acoustics and comfortable seats. If you want to have a sit-down dinner before or right after a show definitely make reservations in advance, lots of good spots but they all have a base of loyal customers and other show attendees you will be competing with for a seat. Be sure to print your tickets at home to bring in, we had electronic tickets and it added an extra step of the box office having to print our tickets (along with a lot of other people), so you can save some time printing them in advance. read more

I love going to the theatre. I try to go at least once a month. Warner Theatre in Torrington is a mixed media theatre. Here you can find a variety of performances like live music, plays, comedy, ballet competitions, and more. This theatre is really the only reason I ever go to Torrington. The theatre has the main stage, and their smaller stage called Nancy Marine Studio Theatre. The main theatre is very beautifuly decorated, it is on the smaller side, so it feels intimate, how ever close or far you are from the stage. The seats are comfy, and the view is always great, wherever you're seated. The Nancy Marine is more of their community theatre, it's more basic without the traditional theatre stage or the curtain. You might be underwhelmed when you first see the Nancy Marine stage, but when you see the performance and the talented cast you'll quickly forget what the stage looks like. I've been happy seeing shows at both of the theaters, sometimes I don't realize where the show is until I actually get there. I've seen many excellent productions at the main stage at The Warner, like Annie, Mama Mia, The Newsies, Jekyll & Hyde, and many more. Just a few days ago I saw The Wedding Singer. My friend and I had a great time. The actors did an excellent job bringing Adam Sandler's 1998 movie, The Wedding Singer to the stage. Of course depending on what you're seeing or who you're seeing depends on the cost of the ticket. I've never seen a disappointing performance at either of the stages. I recommend seeing a performance at Torrington's landmark theatre, you'll for sure walk away satisfied. This theatre has been gathering happy audiences within its walls for 91 years. read more

A gorgeous Depression-Era theater in the heart of Torrington. Free parking in a small side lot, or behind Town Hall. Opulence everywhere you look - gorgeous high ceilings, gilded mill-work and trim everywhere, and a grand balcony. We saw Artemis Pyle and Charlie Daniels last night. The sound was excellent, the sight lines were unobstructed, the seats were comfortable, the ushers were pleasant and very helpful. Everything was very satisfactory. The Warner is a gorgeous building, one of the hidden gems of Litchfield County. I've heard once it was accidentally built using blue-prints for a movie theatre, and although I'm not sure whether it's true or not, it's interesting to think about while you're waiting for the show to start. Ticket prices very depending on what you're going to see - they go from the $5 movie nights to more costly shows at $50ish for premium seats. I'm writing this review fresh from seeing "The Addams Family" and sitting in row KK, under the balcony. The view was very clear, and the seats were comfortable. (The show itself, by the way, was amazing! I wish they had a soundtrack available for purchase.) If you are 6'5'' like my brother, you may want to splurge for one of those premium seats, lest you too complain to your family about how there's pain in your knees and ankles. The concessions stands are also pretty reasonable - their $2 bottle of water beats $4.50 at the movie theater any day. Their bar is a fun touch, especially when they do themed mixed drinks. Actually getting to them before a show and during intermission can be a bit of a struggle, with having to fight through a sea of immobile people waiting for the bathroom like you're a salmon swimming upstream. Newly discovered hint - if you're sitting by door four on the far side of concessions, go upstairs and take the opposite set of stairs down, it'll save you time. The best part about the Warner is the wide variety of shows that come through. They've had George Carlin, Ghost Hunters, captains from the Deadliest Catch and in 2015, Colin Mocharie and Brad Sherwood from Who's Line is it Anyway! The selection of plays leaves something for everyone, and they're pretty family friendly on the main stage. read more

I came here for a play on a Friday night and love the venue. It's very pretty and not too big, a nice intimate place. They serve drinks and snacks before shows and have plenty of parking nearby. The only con is that it is pretty far from main CT cities so takes a bit to get to. read more

A great place to see a show and it's a piece of history. Built in 1931 as a Warner Brothers movie palace, the theater was sold in the 1950's as part of a federally mandated divestment. With business declining and expenses soaring through the 1960's and 1970's, deferred maintenance began to take its toll. Facing certain foreclosure in 1981, the owners closed the Warner and in March of that year put the property on the market for $275,000. With the theater slated for demolition in 1982, a concerned group of citizens formed the not-for-profit Northwest Connecticut Association for the Arts, Inc. to save the theater. read more

We sat second row for Jim Breuer recently and had such a great time! I sat on an isle seat and was really comfortable! Bathroom lines (especially ladies room) got too long - we actually ended up leaving and going to use the restroom somewhere else. Drinks are overpriced but they always are at event venues. Wish they had cup holders! Jim was hilarious, and from the second row we didn't have to crank our necks to see him, and when he came over to our side of the stage he was so close it was easy to make eye contact and wave! I sat up in the balcony years ago for John Legend when he was in town, and although was still intimate, was not the same experience. Close to the stage is where it's at! Was just here to see Kevin James was spectacular by the way, when you 1st enter they do search through the woman's purses, I don't know why, maybe you cannot bring food in or something but that's okay had nothing to hide anyways. When you buy something to drink like the soda they do not sell you the whole drink they open it up pour it in a cup and sell it to you like that which is dumb in my opinion but they are making money. But you can buy beer and water they give you the whole bottle, by the way $3.00 each for a bottle of water... They do have ushers that help you guide you to your seats if you have no idea where you are sitting, there is rules about no video recording and security do check up and down the isles but some people hid their phones and was recording soon as the security passed them. Also it gets very hot in there the place was jammed pack and it was just sticky, but we had a great time laughed our asses off and we didn't have to show a covid vaccine to get in and no one wore any mask which made it so nice. read more

Ahhh, being a theatre geek this review is near and dear to my heart. Positives: Every show that I have been to there (Chicago, Footloose etc.) has been exceptional, not just because my sister is in them, but because they are always full of talented people and amazing sets and costumes. It is a nice venue and I always enjoy going there. Negatives: A little far from my town, but the 40 minute drive is worth it! This former 1931 Warner Brothers movie palace is the gem of Litchfield County, nestled in small Torrington, CT. I've not stepped foot into this theatre in well over 10 years, the last time I went was for THS year 2000 senior graduation. Prior to this, in the early 1980's, I was a small child dancing tap, ballet and jazz for Doncin' School of Dance. This brings back fond memories of my childhood. As I look at the Warner Theatre website, I can see how much things have changed! The seating is totally different; I remember lush, dark red velvet seating and now it looks like individual folding chairs. It looks much more open and airy, as opposed to the dark, mystical feel it had before. It looks as if they've also restored the gorgeous and very ornate ceiling as well. I'm so glad to see that this place is still thriving. Torrington needs this type of venue to bring art and excitement to the town. read more

The Warner Theatre is a great place to watch a show. I thought it was reasonably priced as well. I saw Brian Regan (comedian) there for about $40 per ticket, and we were lower level like tenth row! Compare that to $150 per ticket at Foxwoods to see Jerry Seinfeld in the nose bleeds!! The refreshment selection isn't that great but it is still a fun experience. read more

I've witnessed all of the hard work that was put into this theater renovating it over the years and the crew has done a fantastic job. Last year we enjoyed the Addams family - at that time was sitting on the side and the acoustics were very bad and we moved to the center and were able to enjoy the show. Last weekend when we went to see a 78-year-old folksinger our seats were on the side center aisle we could not understand one word that he was singing. Other people around us were having a same difficulty (there were no seats available in the center) and about three quarters into the first act we just got up and left (as we were leaving we noticed going out the door at the acoustics were much better there than where we were sitting). A friend of ours left after the first act. The following day I called up to complain and left a message with the Executive Director to please call me and never had the courtesy of a return call. If you go to this beautifully restored theater make sure you only sit in the center or possibly if available get headphones. I cannot understand after spending all this money for restoration they have not put in a proper sound system so one could enjoy the performances. read more

Went here for a Gary Allan concert a few months ago and loved it. The decor of the theater is fantastic. The acoustics are very well balanced. For such a small venue (compartively for a concert) everything sounded great. My wife is originally from the area and has told me many times about the long history of the theater and the renovations and I must say, it was really a great spot to see a show. read more

This is such an up-and-coming CT music venue. Beautiful, recently renovated Art Deco space. Very well programmed. I saw Willie Nelson there with Ray Price and I know Joan Baez played there recently. Paid for nice seats in middle of theater. Seats are very small, no mention of seat size on website. Due to knee injury, very tall spouse couldn't fit in seat. They don't give refunds. Had to beg for wheelchair row seats in very last row, but did not get refund of price difference. Spent whole concert with people drinking and talking standing behind us and ruining my husband's birthday gift. All had seats, but chose to stand in a small walkway and wouldn't shut up. Had security move them twice. Will never buy again. Not accommodating, no refund, and no policy on not standing where they don't belong. Complained to an usher, she laughed and said they wanted to have a good time. So did I, but I could hardly hear the music over people talking in my ear so I did not enjoy what I paid for and will never buy from them again. Be forewarned, if you are tall or large, these seats will make you miserable. read more

A true gem. A beacon of greatness in an otherwise mediocre location. Sorry Torrington, you will always have a special place in my heart since I have old family history there, but sadly Torrington has seen better times. The Warner Theatre makes a 1 hour car ride to visit the heart of Torrington worth the drive. I can't really describe it. The best I can do is to compare it to walking into Grand Central in NYC. Art Deco fully restored architecture... just wow. Breathtaking. As for the actual events there? It's great. Go support it! It's so important to have places like this. I plan to come back again soon and I feel awful that I have never been to it until now! One last note. The seating is good. Most of these old places I have been to are sort of designed for people from the early 1900s just like smaller, less leg room... not so. Lots of space! Wonderful people. I can't say enough about the place just GO! If you really want to make a night of it then stop by at the place right down the street either Backstage, or even better, The Venetian. WOW! read more

I purchased tickets for a show for a Christmas gift and am disappointed to learn the show has been cancelled. I contacted the entertainers and was saddened to learn the show was cancelled by the Warner not the entertainers. If the Warner intends to keep people coming they have to do a better job of honoring the tickets with the show that was purchased. The entertainers have said they will not come back without a guarantee..... Sad for Torrington . read more

I live 45min. drive from the Warner Theatre and that's a plus for me to see one of my favorite artist-Vince Gill. I was pleasantly surprised to have his show so close. The staff are friendly, helpful and they help the fans feel important and our love for our artist is respected. I have only been at the theatre when Vince Gill was there but I see the variety of artist that are there and that to is impressive. The renovations are just breath taking and the seating is a good price at least for the show I attended. The seating is alittle close so when you need to get up it isdisturbing to those seated. But that is the only negetive. The bathrooms are very nice and organized for a crowd. A great time that I hope to have again and soon. read more

We looked forward to our first trip to the Warner Theater for the Montgomery Gentry concert on Friday Sept. 28 and unfortunately, it was not a good experience. First of all, let us say that the theater is a beautiful facility with so much charm. However, it is not the place to host a concert with a duo like MG (who we have seen numerous times prior and have thoroughly enjoyed in suitable venues). They are great performers who get the crowd on their feet to some lively music. This concert was loaded with unruly patrons and too much alcohol and a staff that was not prepared to handle the scenerio that arose. People were not only approaching the stage but actually getting on the stage and the staff could not control them. They disrupted the concert, trying to shake hands with and get autographs from the singers while they were performing, which made it very difficult for the rest of us to enjoy the music. The people sitting next to us got up halfway through and either left or moved elsewhere having had more than their share of beer spilled on them. The staff could not get the crowd under control until the very end of the concert, but by then it was too late. We left right before the end to avoid the drunks that would soon be getting in their cars and driving on the roads with us. Overall a disappointing and costly experience that we will not repeat. read more
