It is a nice place. The venue/building and area is nice. The theater seats are older- since the seats don't recline and aren't puffy they aren't the best out there. How much do we have to spend to get the A/C turned on?! I went this past Sunday to see the Devil Wears Prada 2 (for the second time; first time I saw it at iPic). Tickets are cheap: $30 each. Wine was a rip-off at $20 a glass for table wine (cocktails at iPic are $10). We ordered two glasses without realizing it'd be $40. The bartender had already pour our glasses before we could change our mind (and wish she would have alerted us that for $10 more we could have purchased the entire bottle... So almost $100 later, we are in theater 7 where it was stuffy and hot as hell; people were sweating. I had my jeans rolled up to my knees and eventually went to the concession stand for cups of ice water and they gave me cardboard boxes to serve as a fan. That's just ridic. Def can't blame the staff because they're mostly teens. But management, corporate, and even Nicole Kidman--take notice and fix this stat. For now, we're just gonna go to iPic because you spend about the same amount and for a much more enjoyable movie experience. read more

Overall, the experience here was all right. I will say that parking is extremely difficult and very expensive. The lot close to the theater was $18 and the one we found which was a block away was $12. The theater is spacious and the concession stand is located in a good spot. There are also many restroom stalls, but the smell was terrible and the bathrooms were not clean. It was very hard to stay inside. The biggest thing holding this AMC back is the lack of free parking. I scoured Google and Yelp reviews alike discussing this, went 20 minutes early, and still got misinformation and failed to get free parking. The only saving grace is that they release their movie schedule early, so I was able to snag two free tickets using a Fandango discount before it expired. As of October 2025: If you pay to enter a parking garage, you won't get parking validated. So basically..good luck finding a garage that doesn't make you pay on entry on a weekend.. We parked at Garage 5 which is pay-on-entry on weekends for $18, and they do apply that to drinks or concessions so I topped up $2 for a large margarita. Don't get a frozen margarita - it's not truly frozen all the way through, more like slushy on top with a tequila shooter on the bottom that you have to mix up (2/5 for the drink, at least it was a bit strong). We only had three other people in our theater and one couple left midway through. The seats don't fully recline out and were a tad worn, and the entire theater itself gives a dated old-timey vibe because of how empty the establishment felt. The movie and lights worked fine. Located in downtown Houston, the AMC Houston 8 opened in 1997 as an outpost of the New York based Angelica Film Center. It focused on independent and foreign films, and the building that housed it, reflected the sort of 'cinema as an event' atmosphere that Sundance later took on. In fact, it became a Sundance theater in 2011, but then changed to an AMC running first run movies in 2018. My brother and I got to see the recently released '28 Years Later', and it was an enjoyable experience. It was a long day of flying, but wanted to take advantage of my brother's offer to see a movie after dinner. Parking is interesting...it's set-up more like a museum than a movie theater. They do have valet parking right in front, with the nearest parking garage being the theater district parking around the corner. It wasn't clear if it was the right garage, and once we saw the parking rates, tried to change our mind but couldn't really back up. There was a ton of empty parking spots as soon as we entered. We picked one, and then tried to find the nearest street-level exit. It ended up being an exit-only door, so would need a new way to get back to the car. Many theaters offer heavily discounted tickets, and AMC is among them. At this location, it is $5.99 plus tax. It wasn't particularly crowded, so buying the ticket at the theater would save you 2 bucks in on-line purchase fees (which is waived if you are a member of their pay club). As the name states, it has 8 theaters showing movies and we were in one of the bigger ones. It is set-up like a 20th century theater with ramped seating, but the chairs are not the loungers but just really comfortable normal seating. There weren't many previews (for once), with many of them ads for AMC itself, many of them starring Nicole Kidman. We did get the ticket validated by the theater attendant, and ended up paying nothing for parking (though my brother didn't think he scanned the ticket before the gate went up). This theater is in a convenient location and right in the middle of downtown. The theater is not that big, clean and simple. Movie was good quality and sounds were loud and clear. BUT I will not be returning to this location. Since it is in downtown, finding parking can be tough. I've also been spoiled with recliner seats which this theater did not have. The seats were uncomfortable and fabric was scratchy. I tried to not mind it but sitting for a 3 hour movie is pretty rough. It was also super HOT in the theater. This is our go-to theater when we are downtown. It's a small-ish theater but never crowded, so we always bring our 9 and 4 year old with no worries. If you join the AMC Stubs Insider (free), you can pay half price on Tuesdays. PARKING - best bet is to park below ground, under the (former) Jones Plaza. The theater validates the parking so you pay nothing. You can also use the valet parking for a fee. read more

Or if you bought your ticket in advance, they will credit your parking against food or beverage orders. They have great beer selection and decent food. And it's rarely crowded. My friends and I came to AMC 8 to see the Barbie movie. I haven't been to this theater in a couple of years. When it was Sundance Cinema, it was so nice and clean! They offered a full menu and had a full bar. It has gone down hill a bit since AMC took over. It probably doesn't help that the Bayou Place complex has declined over the past few years. Location: Downtown in the Theater District next to Bayou Music Center. Parking: Valet, street, or garage. I parked in the underground garage for $15. Back in the day, you used to be able to get parking validated. I didn't find out until after the fact, but they will apparently let you use your parking ticket as a voucher at the concession stand. I wish I would have known that because I would have saved $15 on my popcorn and bottled water. It's not quite as good as a validation, but it's nice that it can be used toward food and drinks. Food: Typical movie theater concessions. I don't know if they have a full menu and bar anymore. Theater: As many of the other reviews have mentioned, the seats are old and torn. Not all seats were torn, but many of them in our row were. Seats don't recline much, but there is a table in between every pair of seats so that was helpful to set my popcorn down when I needed a break lol. The theater was relatively clean, but we went to a matinee movie. Bathrooms were good enough. We were sort of bummed that they didn't have any fun photo displays to celebrate opening weekend for Barbie (maybe because this theater is smaller compared to other ones in the city). Staff was okay. The employees stand around talking while the floors are trashy, windows are not wiped clean, glass doors look smudged, butter machines are dirty, and the tables are not sanitized. Just filthy. Inside the theatre is old trash and popcorn on the floors. AMC needs to remodel this place quickly or close it. This AMC is outdated and looks like a theatre unkept from the 1980s. This is my first time back to visit this AMC location in probably 8-10 years. I will say, the location is great. Located near the Post and other bars and restaurants that are easily accessible by foot. So that's a plus. Consession stand has both a bar with food seperately and an area for your basic AMC movie munchies. The theater itself is ok, lots of wear and tear on the seats but not terrible. It has a table in between every 2 seats, so there is ample room for your snacks, etc. We came as a group to see the Barbie movie for matinee showing. (I came to support Issa Rae only!!) Theater was crowded for this movie. it's going to do well at boxoffice. It's a good thing there is assigned seating. There's no need to figure out the best seat when you get there. So I will keep it short and to the point. My wife and I came to see a movie (obviously) Our experience was horrible. The Lobby was under staffed, concessions were non-existent, the entire place smelled like the bottom of a dumpster, the floors were filthy. It's all about expectations...if you want a gourmet 5 star service "at home" seat feel for $25 ticket entry, this isn't the place. However, if you just want to grab your snacks & see a $6 matinee (anything before 4pm, rather than 2pm), this is the place for you. I like both experiences & like having the option. I'm glad theatres like this still exist - they're easier, cheaper & not as crowded. I've seen a number of movies here, and always found it to be clean. It's easy to navigate, seats are comfy, bathrooms (with many stalls) have always been clean. Good variety of snacks & "elevated" snacks and drinks. I did go to an afternoon show so it was pretty quiet. The workers were helpful and no problems there although the cherry icee machine was out and looked like no one was going to be replenishing it anytime soon. The seats are interesting. It looks like fabric from the 70s maybe? The seat did recline slightly but if you're looking for the fancy super recliner ones with the buttons that you can put your feet up on, this isn't it. I arrived before the 9pm showtime and when I asked for mozzarella sticks (displayed on a big screen menu) and a beer I was surprised to hear that the kitchen and bar were closed. Like REALLY. BEFORE the showtime. Can anyone explain what is even the point of supposedly selling food or drinks if the kitchen and bar are going to be closed before showtimes? If food isn't going to be served, at least DON'T ADVERTISE IT ON A HUGE SCREEN. It honestly just felt like the staff simply didn't want to work. Which makes a lot of sense for a location run by a bunch of teenagers with NO APPARENT ADULT SUPERVISION OR MANAGEMENT. I had a free ticket to see Killers of the Flower Moon, provided by T-Mobile Tuesday's. I was very highly disappointed with the filthiness David the MANAGER allowed the dining area to be presented to Houston's Downtown Tourist. It was hilarious when I brought it to David the MANAGER attention because the young man could care less. On a lighter note, the movie was EXCELLENT, BRAVO to the actors, actresses and Director of the movie. At the end of the movie, the Osage Indians danced in celebration at Justice and the Cherokee Indian in my blood wanted to dance like them/with them in Victory as well. The movie was about 3 hrs long because the Director was passionate about giving us the FULL Story and that was much appreciated, especially the ending. read more

This place should be condemned. AMC should be fined for charging folks to sit in this nastiness. I preordered Wakanda tickets for this location based upon where I was staying for the weekend. I had NO IDEA I'd bought tickets at the nastiest, most rundown and jankiest theater on Earth! Walking in, the concession area is filthy. The hallway carpeting is visibly stained with who lnows what. On our way to our seats, we overheard guests complaining that there was NO soap, paper towels or toilet paper in the woman's restroom. Get to our seats to find EVERY single seat was in the condition shown in the picture. Fabric torn with both cushion and metal exposed! On top of that, the movie was delayed because. Not sure what all the negative reviews are for/about, I came yesterday to watch the Kung Fu Panda 4 premiere. I will say, this AMC continued to remind me my preference for AMC theaters over other cinemas. Spotless and clean bathrooms, the concession stand was pretty clean as well. When you enter, there are two lines: A-list members and regular cinema attendees. You check in at the concession stand, and they guide you to your movie theater. I even got to try the sample of the Ranch popcorn AMC has for AMC Investors. I was really tired last night when I watched the movie and only saw the second half, which was pretty good. Other than the fact that I would not consider Kung Fu Panda 4 to be kid-friendly due to the nature of the film and graphics. The movie theatre reminded me of the ones I visited often as a teenager, nothing fancy, but the reclining seats were definitely a lot more comfortable than the new seats. If you are looking for a more high-end luxury cinema with sticky floors, this location is not the one for you... but it is clean and spotless. You could even smell the cleaning products from how clean it was. I had a really great positive experience, and while waiting for my ride, even the cushioned hall benches & chairs were so comfy I almost took another nap!! For my latest movie theater fails, I present to you AMC Houston 8. We picked this spot because of it's central location. I should've done my due diligence and checked out the reviews, but I went in blind. First off, parking is either street parking (which was impossible to find close by), super expensive valet (which was closed when we left), or the parking garage across the street. After circling around a few times, I decided on the parking garage. The parking garage said 15 bucks. We came for a late showing and the movie let out a little after midnight. The elevator we took up to street level was turned off. Even the entrance that we drove down to the garage as well as the exit was closed. At this point we thought our cars were going to be stuck down there all night. Luckily, we found other confused folks panicking as well and we eventually found an entrance a block away and a long walk to our cars. When it was time to check out, it rang up 23 bucks! Highway robbery I tell ya! The movie theater is small. It only has 8 screens. Why does this place look so filthy? The seats are worn and torn. The floors are sticky. The staff is nowhere to be seen except at concessions. Those employees definitely do not have any kind of customer service training because they were just going through the motions. The surround sound in the theater was sometimes good, but mostly it was very one sided. It definitely did the movie no justice. With all the recent reviews being so poorly rated, I do not see how this place can stay open. This one experience is bad enough to never even consider coming back here ever again! read more

Wow what a drastic change this theater has gone through since the good days of it being a Sundance theater. The theater is rundown and seats are torn and falling apart. Stains and broken fixtures in the bathroom. We had to go tell the staff to turn down the lights for the previews. Dropped in here for the first time in well over a year to see Tenet as part of a friend's birthday party. The place looked good. While lightly staffed, all servers were polite and efficient. The theater was clean as were the common areas. Overall, a good experience and my wife and I agreed it should go back on the list of options, although perhaps second to iPic in the RO District. read more

This theater needs a remodel asap. The bathrooms are so dirty and some of the doors do not lock. The theater has torn seats, trash and sticky floors. Also, the a/c did seem to be working properly because it was quite warm. The parking is confusing and the employees do not seem knowledgeable on where to park so the parking can be validated. It was a horrible experience especially for a major cinema company such as AMC. I will never come back to this location. read more

The restrooms looks like a scene from a horror movie if that's what AMC is using it for they should put up a "Set" sign. Since it's downtown you have to pay for parking Valet was $20 but AMC said we could park in garage 5 for free but I couldn't get in the lot because the machine wasn't working.
