I hadn't been to AMC Deerbrook 24 in well over 10 years (my 2012 review was one of the first for the reno at the time). Since Deerbrook Mall has undergone some renovations over the years, I assumed the theater had received some much-needed updates as well. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. My son and I visited on Father's Day to see Disclosure Day. We paid extra for the so-called "preferred parking," which is located underneath the theater, then made our way through the mall and up to the cinema. From the outside and common areas, the theater is impressive. It's a large, attractive facility that gives the impression of a modern movie-going experience. Then you walk into the actual auditorium. The individual theaters are absolutely abhorrent. The floors were sticky and dirty. The seats were old, stained, and covered in what looked like years of accumulated grime and popcorn. There was an unpleasant odor throughout the theater that reminded me of a neglected back alley. My son and I were so uncomfortable that we sat with our hands folded in our laps because neither of us wanted to rest our arms on the filthy armrests. As a parent, I honestly felt bad for bringing my kid here. Another oddity was the lack of theater staff. This is the first movie theater I've ever visited where I didn't see employees checking theaters before, during, or after the movie. Once the film ended, there wasn't a single staff member in sight. The movie itself was fine, although I was surprised to see closed captions displayed directly on the screen throughout the showing. I've never experienced that before, but I assume someone in attendance required the accommodation. Overall, the facility desperately needs a renovation. The theater experience should complement the movie, not distract from it. Until AMC invests in updating and deep-cleaning this location, I won't be returning. read more

This has to be the worst theater experience I've ever had. We went to the 6:00pm movie on Sunday May 31st. 1) At least 2 of the ticket purchasing kiosks were out of order. 2) There were not enough employees working the concession desk. It took forever to get through the line. 3) There were flies in front of the projector. During almost the entire movie, there were shadows of flies moving around the screen. Very distracting and annoying. One of the staff contacted the manage about the issue. I was not the first to complain. This seemed to help for a little while, but the flies eventually came back. How are flies a problem in front of the projector???? 4) There was a group of 10 to 12 unsupervised kids running around the theater. They were all talking loudly, all were laughing, playing on their cell phones, constantly changing seats, going in and out of the theater and being a total distraction during the entire move. This is a terrible place to see any movie. AMC should be ashamed to have their name on that building!!! read more

Located in the Deerbrook Mall in Humble Texas, this AMC theater has 24 screens playing movies, one of them in IMAX. Parking is plentiful and free in the mall parking garage. AMC has discounted pricing on Tuesday, even for IMAX (though they have a hefty $2.50 per ticket price for reserving it on-line...discounted if a AMC loyalty member). So my brother and I took the opportunity to watch F1 during its first week for release. The movie was excellent, basically Top Gun - Maverick on a racetrack. The IMAX theater had reclining lounge chairs which made the viewing comfortable. Though in that position, one can't see the bottom of the screen at all. For this movie, we hardly missed it. As an A-List member and self-proclaimed cinephile, I frequent this AMC location because it's conveniently close to home. Sure, many theaters are getting fancy upgrades, but I kind of appreciate the nostalgic charm of this place--until I sit down that is. The IMAX and Dolby screens offer those sweet, sweet recliners, but the rest? Think dirty, outdated, and about as comfortable as a rock in a blender. Now, AMC's motto is "We make movies better," but apparently that doesn't apply to customer service. You'll find a rare gem or two who genuinely care, but the rest seem more invested in their phones or personal convos than in, you know, doing their jobs. And that A-List line? It's basically decorative. If there's only one person at the register, it's a free-for-all: "I can help whoever's next" -- whether you're A-List or just wandered in from the parking lot. Popcorn? I'll give them credit there. Most of the time, it's fresh and crunchy, with butter and salt stations for your DIY flavoring needs. Jalapeños used to be free, but apparently some rogue popcorn rebels ruined it for the rest of us, and now there's a surcharge. Then there's the soda situation. Those touchscreen machines with a buffet of drink options are great, when they actually have something in them. Half the time, they're out of everything except some obscure soda no one drinks. And don't even get me started on the audience. Since the pandemic, it seems like people think they're paying for both a movie and a social hour. Despite the pre-film plea for silence, there's always that one group that treats the theater like their living room. Whatever happened to ushers kicking out chatty patrons? Ah, the good ol' days. In short, I've accepted that the service here is permanently set to "meh." Definitely more security during the weekends especially Saturday nights. Too many disrespectful uneducated teenagers make the experience here difficult to deal with. If you don't mind dealing with it over cheap prices on tickets then by all means go for it. The Deerbrook 24 AMC theatre is a good choice to spend a few hours. If you can get beyond the noise about mall crime you might find the Deerbrook mall has been nicely renovated. It has 24 screens and a full bar. The theatre itself has also been remodeled with comfortable seats, clean bathrooms and great movie experience with IMAX, SDX and Dolby. The biggest thing they lack are customers. It's way too quiet. It's a little unnerving to watch a movie with on 2 or 3 other couples. With the food court located right outside the entrance there is no reason not to enjoy an evening here. read more

We are new to the area, but I figured with an AMC at a big mall we would have a wonderful experience. I was so wrong! First of all, the looks to pick up tickets did not work. The fountain drink I got had NO flavor, the movie was supposed to start at 7:00 pm (I double checked my ticket) but they changed it to 7:30 without any notification. The seats were horribly uncomfortable, very tight and super straight up. In fact, the seats in front of me cut off about a quarter of my view of the movie screen and the theater was SO HOT, it was not enjoyable at all. We saw Wicked and that's a long movie. Sound and screens all work great, but in terms of the theater itself, the place is often dirty, I've noticed napkins on the floor in the hallways, sticky floors in the theater, that sort of thing. Dirty, stinky, & hot We went to see a late night show and the theater smelled like piss. We sat by the wall - big mistake because we saw a big roach crawling on the wall, it was absolutely disgusting. The seats felt so grimy, it felt like we were at a child's playground it was so gross. Half way thru the movie the electricity went out the movie shut off and they told us come back tomorrow for a refund and then when i went back they only offered gift certificates.. I will never go back. This place needs to be shut down. Managers and staff are also rude and lazy . We wanted to see the new Bond movie and noticed that every seat in every theater that we liked was booked. It made us uncomfortable to think of sitting through a whole movie in a pandemic in a crowded theater when the level of individual compliance where mask-wearing is concerned is so low. That is, until we went to the Deerbrook web page. I hesitate to write this because I don't want it to become so crowded as well, but I also hold some of the stock and I want AMC to succeed. Importantly, I believe in the golden rule so, if you're looking for a really good experience at a non-crowded location, Deerbrook is for you. Honestly, about as good as any theater you go to but without the lines. The restrooms are as clean as you can expect (cleaner even), and they have paper towels not the nasty blowers. No line at the concession stand. The theater was clean and they have recliners that work. Screen crisp and rich sound. It felt like going to the movies 20 years ago before Houston got so densely populated that you can't go anywhere without dealing with crowds. The type of crowd was reminiscent of my youth in Alief where there were middle class people from just about every walk of life and demographic. Honestly, it's not a posh theater in a bourgeois part of town, but that's also part of its charm. Will DEFINITELY go back for the next movie! read more

This is one filthy movie theater that isn't cheap. All over the floor I spotted popcorn everywhere. Near the drink station, they had sticky floors and more popcorn. It's not the fault of the staff, but rather its customers. For one bag of popcorn, it's either $6, $7, or $8. For a small, medium or large. Geez, it's only popcorn and it shouldn't cost that much. The combos for a drink and some popcorn, $13; and why?! Not only that, but the movie tickets were $12 and why is that? It's just a movie and it's like it's all fancy and grand. The seats were clean and I didn't feel itching while watching Creed. By the way, what a great movie. The screen was lit brightly and I didn't have any trouble with viewing. Anywho, the first time I visited the ladies restroom it was clean and spotless. The second time I visited it (after the movie), it was disgusting! I tell you what, my species are so nasty when it comes to going to the restroom and cleanliness. I'm guessing kids get in free because it was a magnitude of little rugrats everywhere. We bought Star Wars "The Last Jedi" reserve seating tickets many weeks in advance for opening night. My children and I arrived to totally nasty seats in sad repair. I've also posted photos. Due to this being a Star Wars movie on opening night, there were no other available seats. This experience totally ruined the film we had looked forward to for 2 years! Went to see Jurassic Park on June 12, a Sunday around 3:00pm. After checking in, I went straight to pick up and slightly slipped on the floor, luckily I gathered my balance. (Last thing I need is an injured back since I already have issues with my spine.) There was another customer there that almost slipped as well and started to complain by look like none of the employees there cared to listen. He then asked them to give him a mop and he will clean it for them. I then went to watch the movie on sticky seats and soggy floors. I held the need to go to the bathroom in fear of falling down in the dark from the nasty floors. When movie was finally done I went to the bathroom where I heard another customer yell to her friend there was no toilet paper. In a panic I looked down and nope, no toilet paper of course had to politely ask the customer to please hand me some too if she found any. Finally headed to the exit but wanted to buy a banana flavor drink. I turned to my left and saw another customer filling her cup right as she turned she fell straight down to the floor. ITCHIN AND STINKIN! This movie theater is the most disgusting and rundown theater I have ever been to. I live in the area and I usually will avoid this place like the plague but it was the only option the other day and all I have to say is it was an awful experience. First of all this movie theater is by far the most expensive in the area by about 4 dollars per ticket. Which is comical given the seats are the original seats from when this place opened. There was popcorn all over the floor and the floor stuck to your shoes when you walked. Also there were very interesting looking stains on the chairs.... And the chairs had a musty aroma. There was literally food on the walls that looked like it had been there for decades. To simply put it this place seems to never get cleaned. The next mishap are the employees who simply DO NOT do their jobs, obviously based on how nasty the place is. My boyfriend went and asked if they could turn the lights on because the movie had already started and they rolled their eyes at him and did nothing. So he turned them on himself. Then later we realized that the AC was off, so once again he went and asked and of course they showed him the same attitude.
