I am someone who works out nearly every day, which means I wash my hair pretty much every day. I also don't own a blow dryer. Tim's smoothing treatment allows me to have the absolute smoothest, yet insanely voluminous gorgeous hair for months with NO EFFORT. I can't tell you how many times I get complimented on its shine and beauty even when I'm at the gym lol. He also doesn't use any of the formaldehyde treatments, which I have had before and I MUCH prefer the results of Tim's smoothing treatment over a Brazilian blowout, any day, no question. My hair always feels healthier leaving his salon then when I walked in, which is rare. Tim is beyond thorough when he works with your hair, something that is really important to me if I'm paying for a smoothing treatment, because if this is rushed, or not executed properly you are just wasting money. Tim knows the chemistry of all the products he uses for these treatments and he understands how they interact with the type of hair you have on an insane level which helps him guide you to the best possible choices when choosing color or when combining treatments in the same visit. Tim never double/overbooks, and always spaces appointments out so he isn't rushed which again, results in the best possible outcome for the client. Tim is also one of the kindest, funniest individuals to know. If you are going to spend multiple hours getting your hair done with a stylist, you certainly want it to be Tim! Tim use to have an amazing salon in San Francisco (where I live) I love his new salon in Sac, the decor, vibe and experience it provides while getting your hair done is very luxurious. I have no choice but to continue getting my hair done with him, because no one provides the quality and experience he does (I've searched high and low in SF to no success). So yes, I make the drive from San Francisco to Sacramento, but it is worth every penny and moment in traffic to have great hair! Anyway, I see Marina and she is awesome. I highly recommend her. Revelry also does walk-ins and everyone is friendly. My former hairdresser retired from the hair business a few years back, and it took me awhile to get around to finding another place to go get my mane dealt with. I was looking for a queer friendly place, most importantly, but I was also looking for someone who is good with curly/wavy hair types like mine, and someone who is both a stylist and barber so I can finally wear my hair in more gender affirming ways. All of this is what brought me to Revelry, and I've been very happy with my services from them. Marina uses the Vagaro app, and that has taken some getting used to but it is soooo convenient to be able to just go in there and schedule a day and time that works for me. She does weekday evenings so I can come in after work too! I usually get either a shave or a shave and a layered cut for the half of my head with longer hair. Maybe thinking of changing up my look soon, but I also love wearing my hair this way. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and professionalism. I can't recommend Revelry highly enough.

At Higherstandards, they have taken a stand against the turn and burn mentality and refuse to let one of the cornerstones of the art go extinct. To start, I was looking for a unicorn. A barbershop that was open past 7:00 pm on a Sunday. I know, I'm kind of an @-hole. I scoured Yelp and thought I found a few near me. I raced over to each one and found exactly what one should expect. Not open, or not even there anymore. No surprise, but still a disappointment. I decided to expand my search radius. With the greater distance, I decided calling ahead was prudent. So with no expectations, but high hopes I dialed this shop with no reviews, no ratings, and a somewhat sketchy looking listing. After one ring, I hear a rather casual, "Hello?". I thought, " What do you mean hello? Don't you want to go give the name of the shop, or SOMETHING to indicate that this is a business? This seems like a wrong number. It sounds like someone's cell phone.". Well it turns out, it WAS a cell phone. He had the line forwarded after hours. This guy offered to go back to the shop and meet me if I wanted to get a cut. So, without hesitation, I mashed 20 miles to get a haircut. Yeah, I really needed to get it done, and yes, I should have taken care of it sooner if it was so important. Don't judge me. So, I get there, I think. All I could find was a shop that says Shorty's on the outside. I walked in to a very warm welcome. Good music on the radio, and an overall good vibe in the place. I can't quite put it into words, but something about the feel made me know that this guy was not messing around. He is there to work hard, perfect his craft and make a name for himself. As I tool a seat in the chair, he asked if I like sports. He put on the Stanley Cup finals. That scored huge with me. No one ever wants to put on hockey. The gam was over pretty quickly, so he asked me if I like comedy. The he busts out an iPad with a list of comedians on Netflix. He had entertainment covered on all fronts. So, while enjoying a comedy set, I got one of the best haircuts of my life. Great conversation asking the way. At some point, shaving came up, and I asked if he does shaves. He does, and he didn't mind staying even longer to do so. Excellent shave too. Nice hot towel, that he holds over your face to make sure it doesn't burn you, before wrapping it just right so it's tight against your skin, but you can still breathe. When the time came to settle up, he asked for so little that I felt like a criminal. I gave him $60 instead and still felt like I had come up on one hell of a deal. I had.
