Aly has been my go to barber for the past three years now and there's no turning back. I always get questions about where I get my haircut or sometimes people preempt their question with "I see Aly at Anthony's, where do you go?" To me, that speaks to high quality service that she provides. I have short / medium length asian hair. I get a combover and high quality fade here. Aly has made several suggestions to my cut that I've adapted, which I really appreciate about her. In terms of vibe, it's a pretty standard set up. Bunch of seats. Doesn't lean into the upscale or modern aesthetic, but not that cookie cutter feel by any means. Very eclectic on the inside. Definitely appeals to early 90s kid and to no surprise given that the average barber seems to be in the 30s to early 40s. They always have a throwback movie or show playing, or baseball. I was blown away by my experience here today. Warmly Greeted the moment I walked in by one of the barbers. Another, I think one of the owners, came over to check me in but when I asked if they took walk ins he quickly rifled a few texts out and asked if I could come back in an hour which I unfortunately couldn't.. but as I was thanking him for trying he tried one last text and luckily had someone available. I was sat in a barbers chair and waited less than 5 minutes in total before Nigel came in to give me one of the best hair cuts I've had in years. I will always recommend Nigel to anyone but, if he is unavailable, anyone else there will do great! Everyone is so welcoming when you walk in to when you leave. First I have to say all of the barbers are incredibly talented and unbelievably nice. The vibe is very chill, old school barber chairs, and the conversations are fun, interesting, and intellectual (most of the time). Alex is my go-to barber, every two weeks like clockwork but I have been cut by Ally, Beans, Dutch who have all done incredible work. Don't take my word on this one, but they all do straight edge razor fades, but certainly check with your chosen barber before scheduling if that's what you're looking for. My only ask of everyone is to not book all the available slots as I need to get my haircuts and beard trims. Once you visit this place, you'll be hooked. read more

I've started going to Matthew at Anthony's since I moved to Sacramento in August and have never looked back. It usually takes me 1-2 weeks of re-growing after a cut to start liking how it looks, but with Matthew I love the results from immediately after to weeks later. An old barber I had once told me that you can tell how skilled a barber is by how your hair grows out, and I have complete faith in (and proof of) Matthew's abilities. One thing I particularly appreciate is how cognizant he is about keeping all the fresh cut hair off of me. This is the first time I feel like I can go somewhere directly after my cut without running home to shower off all the loose hairs. Anthony's as a whole is a welcoming and clean atmosphere, with plenty of cool things around to keep you entertained during your cut. Staff super friendly and chill. My dad's go to guy is Josh "Beans" for years now. He says NOBODY does a better job then Beans. He's a super nice dude too. I have been coming to Anthony's Barbershop since it was a walk-in-only shop. I have sat in just about everyone's chair and can truthfully say that each barber is skilled. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by either Dutch or Sean with a simple "Hey." If you're new, they'll probably ask if you have an appointment to ensure you're taken care of. Next to Dutch is Nigel; I've gotten my haircut by Nigel once or twice, and Nigel has been around for as long as I have been going to Anthony's, so it's a guarantee you'll get a solid cut. Next to Nigel is Beans, a super nice guy from Philadelphia. Across from Beans are Brian and Matthew. I haven't had a haircut from either of them, but I've heard that Brian gives great "Edgar" haircuts. I've been getting haircuts here every two weeks for the past 8 years from Alex T. It's always a great conversation with Alex; he's very methodical with his haircuts and finishes it up with a straight razor on your neck. 10/10. Oh, a special shout-out to Aly. She is my backup when Alex isn't around! It's like a family in there, and as much as I go for the cut, I enjoy my time there. I have ben a loyal customer of Aly's for year (going on 6 years). Going to see her at Anthony's is like a therapy session. I get to relax, catch up, get the best haircut of my life and leave with the biggest smile on my face. She is detail oriented, personable and knows what I need without even me asking for it. First experience at Anthony's barber shop was awesome. Brian cut my hair. I was not sure exactly what i wanted when I came in but he asked a lot of clarifying questions and then he nailed exactly what i was hoping for. I got a mid drop fade, comb over with a hard part and a beard trim. Brian and the rest of the staff were friendly and over all fun kick back environment. I was impressed with Brian's attention to detail as my hair is thick which can be difficult to fade, but he actually pointed that out and then took the time to ensure it was done well. However she was scheduled with Nigel. Omg. He was a sing with my daughter to do her first Mohawk. They both are great talents. I booked a cut here some months ago and the barber "Dutch" refused to do it. I arrived 5 min early and was directed to wait on his chair. Barber comes out glaring and says "what do you want?" I try to explain with numbers what I want, but he chided me for getting the terminology wrong and corrects me. I say "sure, that sounds good." I didn't see the coat rack at first, so I ask where it is and he just points. Whatever. Then he sighs and he says he doesn't have time for me because I booked for only 30 min and I guess my hair was too long for that? So he said I could come back hours later. Needless to say I didn't come back. I've never felt so unwelcome at a barbershop. I used to live in Portland for years and even those hipster shops aren't as pretentious as the vibe I got here. I booked at a different spot and the guy cut my hair just how I wanted it in... less than 30 minutes. Go figure. Funny enough, my new barber told me he and others got a similar vibe coming to Anthony's. They act like it's some kind of club, and if you're not in it, you won't even get a hello, or apparently not even a haircut. read more

Update - Went back to see Alex for a beard trim. Must have been a bad day for him because the whole experience was very different. Felt like I had committed a faux pas as I did not receive the same quality of service as was offered during my first visit. Given that its a 25 minute drive out of my way, I will need to assess whether its worth the effort for a return visit. read more

I hardly ever get my haircut, but when I do, I enjoy coming here. Try taking the one star reviews with a grain of salt as; 1) everyone is very chill here. If someone felt like one of these guys was rude then they themselves was probably an asshole first. 2) more often than not if someone is unhappy with a haircut, they likely just told tbe barber to just make them look good, which is subjective. 3) I probably wouldn't listen to people who go to a barbershop knowing the atmosphere, then complain about Said atmosphere lmao. I looked online and really noticed Aly stood out from a lot of people I reviewed online; texturing was top-tier! There's always a slight feeling of anxiety when you visit a new barber/stylist and especially with an idea that's new. I booked an appointment with Aly and I explained what I wanted. She immediately explained what approach she was going to take and explained how it would come out. Conversation was great! She cuts without you even noticing. When she finished the cut, which had awesome texturing, she gave advice on styling, styling products, and what to do to make it better next time! If you're trying to get faded you have a lot of choices, if you want to get your hair faded come thru here and see Aly! She takes her time but within the timeframe you signed up for. You can tell she's always perfecting her craft and maybe my cut gets better every time, who knows. I haven't gotten a cut with anyone else yet in the shop but the the cuts I've seen are clean! As with all barbershops, if you're into convo then you got it. If you just wanna chill and listen you got that too. Make sure to try and book ahead of time cause you don't want to end up in a random barbershop on a Friday afternoon trying to get nice for the weekend... or else your weekend might not be that nice. Came here as a recommendation from a friend. We called and they had availability to cut my sons hair. Thankful for coming here, the place is very clean, kind of hip, but great group of barbers. I was very happy with my sons haircut and it was reasonable. You can make reservations/appointments online but it wouldn't let me book without using a credit card. I can't speak specifically to everyone here, but I take my kid and my best friend here to get their haircut by Dutch. I spent over 20 years in the beauty industry, and that means even though I'm retired and don't want to cut hair anymore, I'm still hella picky. Dutch is good at what he does and cares about the quality of the haircut. My kid has some stupid curveballs in the way his hair grows and Dutch handles them, no problem. The rest of the folks there are rad too. I've only seen good haircuts come out of this place. As far as the attitude, what do you want? Cucumber water and a hot towel? They are booked 99% of the time, nearly back to back and they don't have a receptionist. $25 is more than fair for the quality of the cut. They are all friendly and I have never felt uncomfortable. Book with them, drop you boyfriend off there, buy a gift card...whatever you want, but they deserve your support. read more
