Worst experience ever ! I've gone 4 times over 7 years hoping that if I had a different barber that it would get better. My last appointment was a disaster in November when I was cancelled on an hour beforehand. Yet the rules start with a minimum of two hours for the customer. Hah. What scam. Then when I came in later the barber fought with me telling me he couldn't blend my sides without leaving a hard line ! I was shocked and appalled knowing that that was a lie. I have been a stylist in the most prominent salons of SF and L.A. and Orange County. Yet, he, and the lady barber next to us were basically laughing at me and rude. I almost, and should have left right then because my hair was ruined for two months as I had to fix it myself. Even my hairline was crooked/lopsided. After 55 dollars this place sucks. After years of shaving my head with a razor due to balding, several months ago I decided to grow it out again just to see what I was still working with. Much to my delight, and with the help of a generic hair regrowth product, my hair turned out to grow much healthier than I could have imagined. However, I now faced the dilemma of where and how to get my hair cut and styled... After several haircuts at popular chain franchises, I enjoyed the results, but longer hair required a more nuanced approach. After setting a wedding date with my beautiful fiancé, I decided to try a classier approach to my grooming. I discovered Barber Blues and found myself intrigued by the classic approach the shop seemed to take to men's haircuts. I scheduled an appointment over the phone with Jacob for later on the same morning, and he was polite and fortunately had availability. I arrived to my appointment on time and was accommodated in a very timely fashion in turn. Jacob was friendly and professional throughout my haircut. I shared my ideas with him about wanting to "class up" my look a bit, and he made several very helpful recommendations. This included the best direction in which to comb my hair due to my cowlick and figuring out a good length for the sides. Near the end of my haircut, Jacob put a mystery product into my hair to style it before the grand reveal. Much to my surprise, my hair actually looked amazing! After years of accepting baldness (think along the lines of a Mr. Clean/Vin Diesel look), I felt the confidence that comes with having a fresh and handsome cut. The mystery product turned out to be a Reuzel clay matte pomade, and I picked up a tin in hopes of getting similar results at home. I'm happy to report that it was a perfect choice. I was married the following day to the woman of my dreams, and I am genuinely grateful to Jacob and Barber Blues for helping me make it happen in class and style. [August 15th 2020] I'll start this review by saying that I understand Covid-19 has wrecked "business as usual" for a lot of people. That said, I don't think Covid-19 is an excuse to jettison customer service. Earlier this week--on Tuesday--I scheduled an online appointment through Barber Blue's website. Since Great Clips (my regular spot) hasn't been open for a couple of months, I figured it was time to get my quarantine "mop" cropped. On the website, visitors can pick their own day and time to schedule their service. When I tried booking an appointment, the site indicated that appointments weren't available for several days and the soonest I could get in to be seen was Friday. Surely, I thought at the time, that was a good sign since it meant a lot of people must be relying on Barber Blues to clean up their "shelter hair". Fast forward to yesterday--the day of my appointment--I drive all the way downtown only to find a completely empty barbershop! I stood there for a while, trying to call the place but all the calls would pickup to a deadline. Simple fixes to this inconveience: Put a hold on the website's appointment feature and set an automatic phone response for callers that all services will be on hold due to the ongoing health crisis. I went for the first time last Wednesday. I've been looking for a new barber. I saw that they had good reviews, when I walked in I was relieved to see how clean it was and the barbers all seemed pretty chill. I got a cut from Jesus. Awesome conversation holder. But ok the other had he dropped the clippers during my cut. And didn't seem to know how to cut my type of hair. So that was a bummer. Well after all that I got home later that night and the back of my head was itchy. The next day at work it was itching as well. Days go but and it's almost been a week and I've been to the dr and a dermatologist. I've broken out into a nasty rash because of his clippers. This Place is an Absolute Scam! After leaving my appointment, my card was charged $130 for 3 appointments, 2 of which, I did not make, nor did I ever get any confirmation for them. I went to the one appointment I had confirmed, and then this place of business illegally charged my card for an extra 84$ for 2 appointments that were never booked or confirmed on my end. After they made the fraudulent charges that were never confirmed, the barbers refused to refund my money, and continued by making up lies in order to keep the funds. I already have reported Jacob G. to the authorities for white collar crimes against me for fraudulently charging my card and have reported this business to the Better Business Bureau as scammers. This place illegally charged my card for 2 appointments that I never made. I would not risk booking any appointments with this place because you will be at risk of being overcharged for multiple appointments and they will not refund you. This was specifically Jacob G. who fraudulently over charged my card and refused to refund it. You should avoid him with all costs, or just avoid this business at all costs, they will overcharge you at any chance they get. This business is corrupt and a scam. As I said, I reported them to the Police and BBB. Best of luck maintaining a corrupt business, if I was the owner I would get rid of Jacob G. He is only losing customers, has terrible customer service skills, and he's a criminal who will overcharge your card if you make an appointment, avoid this barber with all costs. read more

Man, oh man! There's nothing better than feeling extremely satisfied with the service I cannot get over. Previously around 6 weeks prior to the appointment, I was rushed out the door with the poorest service ever. Yesterday however, from the patience, cooperation, and hospitality, there's no question I found a fantastic barber in Tony. He greatly acknowledged the horrible haircut I had before. I showed him a couple pictures of what I wanted, and thoroughly explained what he was aiming for. His experience and skill is second to none by knowing how to cut the perfect haircut based on how my hair currently looked and sat on my head. I had a bunch of hair on top, then he separated the hair and scissor-trimmed it perfectly for the style I was actually looking for. For my history of less than mediocre cuts, I expressed to Tony that can't have a bad cut. He says with no hesitation and such confidence, "you won't get a bad haircut at all." So I sit back and relaxed while chatting with Tony. In the end, I got the fade I wanted and I couldn't stop looking side to side for how clean it was. Indeed, it was good looking. He also put the right product for the style and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I give Tony huge props for making me feel welcomed coming in and a huge smile from ear to ear out the door. This appointment was the smoothest of any haircut service I've ever had. The other barbers in there are classy as well, I wouldn't express any doubts of having a great experience overall! Want the best experience? Then go to Tony! ‍ UPDATE: Downgrading a star for a barber not so good huh? Well, I still respect the staff for who they are, but I've lost trust in their appointment system that really screwed up the relationship I had with them, forcing me to look elsewhere. If you set up an appointment with someone who's well-known there, you may not start on time, or get exactly what you need -- only if you're a new client. In that case, I know Tony was in a time-crunch and I still respect the guy. But don't make the appointment system or being late an excuse as to why you can't consistently serve me as you did the first time because you got the next client waiting, I paid for a FULL 30 minutes. The customer service was second to none; I was immediately greeted when I walked in by multiple barbers, all of which were social and made the environment a friendly place to be. It felt like a true gentlemen's barbershop. I booked an appointment with Tony, who nailed exactly what I wanted from a picture or two. He took his time and paid very close attention to detail, even providing a straight-edge razor shave on my neck and upper beard line. I've gone here twice now to two separate barbers. I work a hectic schedule, so I specifically booked 8 am appointments each time. Both individual barbers rescheduled my appointment last minute the morning of for different reasons. I can only assume it was really to block their schedule together better because there weren't appointments after me until later in the day. You can see their schedules on an iPad when you are getting your hair cut. This makes it difficult to rely on having an appointment that works with my schedule especially because you prepay for the haircut when you make the appointment. Both haircuts were just okay. I preferred my second barber to the first and I had reviews prior to choosing. Other barbers were offering their clients product and styling etc which I wasn't offered either time. I may try one more time as this shop was recommended and I really want to find a new regular barber, or I may just try a new spot. read more

I've been going here for years but it's about time I write a review. Gabriel is hands down the best barber I've ever had, both in terms of technical skills and customer service. Never had a bad cut with him and he's friendly but doesn't talk your ear off. Always makes sure to check and make sure you're happy before you leave. I found enough time to head into Barber Blues on my lunch break on 11/16/2018 and man am I happy I did. It was super easy to find a reservation online, I chose the first available option and got ... I think his name was Mario! I headed over and found parking easy and waited a few minutes since I got there early. ( I originally thought I was gonna be late and put that in my res. notes and was texted by Mario in regards to that.) I sat down and explained what I wanted, (High skin fade, trim up top) and Mario took his time to give me an awesome result! They also carry Suavecito hair pomade which is awesome! They seem to consistently do a good job whether you are in Roseville or midtown, but I liked my barber a lot in midtown so I will try to keep going there! read more

He is by far one of the most patient and understanding barbers that I have met. The first few times I would show him a picture of a desired hairstyle and he would explain the practical lengths and steps to attain that hair. Next he would explain certain hair aspects like the cowlick and partings which were super helpful. He really wants to make the customers happy and never seemed to be rush. A friend of mine recommended Barber blues to me here in Sacramento when I was in desperate need of a new spot. This shop has several barbers who all seem great at their craft. I came in with mid-back length hair wanting to cut almost all of it off to donate. Trinda went above and beyond with sectioning to make sure we could donate as much hair as possible. Great communication, super gentle, and still provided me with a full service without rushing even though the appointment took longer than we anticipated. The cut came out awesome and she gave me exactly what I asked for without trying to feminize it. Trinda definitely knows what she's doing and has a keen eye for aesthetics. Barber Blues is somewhat of a hit and miss type of business. I'll start with the positives then the areas of improvement. The location and ambiance of the shop are great. The shop is in the north of downtown, and close to a central location. The shop itself cool, with comfortable seats, and a fun jazz/blues theme going. I wish they had a better bathroom. The bathroom is a shared bathroom and it looks like it's only one bathroom for lots of people. The haircuts are typically good. I don't have a difficult haircut, so my standards are probably not the highest. Now for the areas of improvement. It seems to have a lot of barber turnover. There are about 5 chairs in this shop so it is pretty big. The first time I had my hair cut here I really liked the barber, when I called to schedule an appointment with him again, I was told he no longer works there. I get my haircut somewhat often, roughly once every three weeks, and it seems like every time I come here there is a new barber. My only negative experience was once the barber was backed up and despite having made an appointment I waited about 25 minutes. Overall this is a decent barbershop with areas of improvement. For the moment I'll keep coming back but am open to moving on if something better comes up. read more

After seeing the 5 star rating and amazing reviews on Yelp I had to give this place a chance. I decided my mountain man phase was getting old and I needed a pro to clean me up! At first I was a bit upset that the owner 'Jason' that I heard so much about on Yelp was on vacation, but there was no reason to fear! Another barber, JayJay, greeted me, got me comfortable, and asked what I wanted. I explained, and eventually just told him to do whatever he wanted. JayJay took his time even though other customers were patiently waiting and some even walking out! Under the pounds of facial and bear hair, JayJay saw a vision! He took his time and care sculpting and creating. He was super focused on the task at hand, payed attention to detail, and kept a friendly conversation going the whole time. Once he finished and I saw myself I couldn't keep a smile off of my face! JayJay is a master at his craft and I can't believe he saw a sexy beast under the hair monster I once was! I came here after seeing some solid reviews. I was unable to do a walk in since they were fully booked but they scheduled me an appointment for the following day. It was a lifesaver because another business cancelled my appointment the day of for the haircut and shave I had booked for my wedding. Parking can be slightly challenging at times but generally isn't too hard to find. The shop has an old school feel to it with some modern touches. They have a solid reading collection. The shop is very clean and well maintained. I have had several haircuts as well as a hot shave by Dustin. He does an excellent job and I leave extremely satisfied every time. The hot shave was hands down the best I have ever had and I have had many. He does a nice job listening to what you'd like and offers good advice and opinions as well. He is friendly, personable, and professional. Appointments are easily made online. I love the convenience of this. My only gripe but I won't knock them for it even though it is 2016 is they are cash or check only. They do have a ATM machine available. I would personally love it even if they only had the PayPal or Square card readers as I rarely carry cash nowadays. They have a solid selection of styling products to choose from. read more
