My experience was similar to Chester's. The appearance of great customer service at the beginning of the experience and it degraded once I started understanding the underpinnings of how the company actually works. Customer service is lacking beyond the basics. Ambiance is an order house for Hunter Douglas products and that is their cash cow (Dan, the owner, touts that). The business seems to be knitted together by a Dad owner who is mostly AWOL and a younger generation that are working their respective positions with great liberty around family schedules which the customer is expected to work with. Dan is arrogant and other employees (his adult kids) take liberties beyond a sales relationship when in a client's home. As an example, they took pictures of the installations without asking my permission. Dan marveled at the "old fashion" wall phone I have in my kitchen and made a big deal about it by taking a picture. They took blinds and roman shades off my windows and without asking removed them from my home. I wanted to donate them to charity. For some, I asked them to return them and they did. There was a sense that they were overly comfortable in my home. I work from home and scheduled installations around my meeting calendar. Often, they'd come early or flex their schedule and it become a distraction to my workday. They didn't call first, just showed up. Ambiance re-did all of my window treatments as I was upgrading after being in my home for 25+ years. I could have gone to other vendors for a Hunter Douglas product but I wanted a higher end experience with design consultation. This is a family run business. I learned quickly that my design "consultant" actually is the book keeper. Did I feel deceived? Yes! With my original installations, they went ok - minor nicks to walls and my hardwood floors and a nice gash to a mahogany chair. It took multiple trips to get extension cords for a couple of wood blinds and the right color putty for door shutters. The last putty job - some holes were filled and others were not so it was a sloppy job. These were all minor annoyances. The company doesn't schedule installations until after the product is delivered to them. This delays the e2e process even more. I had 2 products that arrived broken and that wasn't identified until the day of installation - more delays! But, for my last order and installation which were shutters on French Doors - my experience was never fully resolved and the relationship degraded. I had to cut my losses and move on with a competitor company. In my last conversation with the "designer," she was not answering my questions with accurate information I had received by actually contacting Hunter Douglas. I was trying to logically walk through the journey for the French door shutters and basically laid out how what I paid for was not what was delivered and the job was not complete after 6 months. There was one excuse after another but no resolution. She accused me of being a bully. The last absolute lie was that the shutter style ordered, which matches the rest of my house, didn't come in the cut-out modification I needed. If that was true, what's the reason I wasn't told that before I ordered it? I actually sent material to Ambiance that Hunter Douglas sent me with a write up of my shutter style and a picture with the cut-out modification. This was proof that what I ordered was available but not delivered. That's when I contacted Hunter Douglas to file a complaint and wrote this review. Enough is enough! I struggled to find a shade to match our kitchen counter. Big box stores had only standards colors (tan, beige, etc). I found AD Window Treatments on Yelp and stopped in, and I knew I found exactly what I needed. Huge selection of styles, colors, and brands. The service was exceptional (nothing like the Big Box store). Laura (owner) was very knowledgeable and we returned for a 1-on-1 session to ensure we selected the right shade. I ended with a rust, Hunter Douglas which looks great with my countertop. (See photo). I am very happy with the window treatments we have purchased and installed by Ambiance Design. We have a new construction home and needed blinds immediately and followed that up with fabrics at a later date. I know they are a family business and it is important to me to support local businesses. Andrea was fantastic as my designer. She locked in on my style quickly and brought me a lot of great options to choose from -working within my budget. Chris and Bryan installed our treatments and did a great job as well - super professional. When I have a bad experience with a company that has high marks, I always look at how many other reviews the reviewers for that company have done. Like, how was my experience so different? And other than one reviewer that gave Ambiance 5 stars, none of the reviewers has done more than 6 reviews. In any event, ours was not a 5 star experience and I've waited 4 months before writing this, because I am all for women owned businesses - and supporting military veterans. But, this was our experience and I want to save someone else a similar experience. Simply put, we would not use them again. Laura, the owner, is pleasant enough, but lacked a deep understanding of the products she's selling and though engaging on an interpersonal level, lacked a customer experience mindset. She didn't have a solid grasp on how the products would function or look once installed. One of our choices looked awful from the outside as you could see the bottom rail and caution stickers when opened or closed. When we brought this to their attention, Dan (husband/installer) said "I never look at them for how they'd look from the outside." Well, let me introduce you to caring about your neighbors and the curb appeal of one's home. . . The lack of end-use product knowledge resulted in delays and ultimately a financial loss. We paid for expensive window treatments whose functionality wasn't adequately explained and once installed, they weren't good options. This happened in two different rooms. They told us up front that the manufacturer had a customer satisfaction policy so we figured we'd be OK taking a leap. What they didn't tell us until AFTER we landed on the only other product option available that worked AND committed to the orders, was that if you down-grade in price you don't get the difference back. Unbelievable to say that AFTER the fact. It was a significant difference in price. No apology. No accountability for their part in why the original choices didn't work out. They hid behind the manufacturers policy, but of course, they could've offered to make up the difference. At the very least they could have offered to split it. But no. We were out that money and the time needed to replace them. We had a similar issue with a picture window in another room. The function of the blind wasn't accurately explained and when opened, it occluded the top fourth of the window. Which is not what you want on a picture window. The resolution again cost us time and money as the second option also ended up being much less expensive. Again, the lack of product knowledge. Again, they hid behind the manufacturer's policy rather than stepping up. In the end we did treatments for seven rooms in three different batches. We did all the orders before the relationship began to sour which happened before the first install when they were a no show for a rental property we asked them to do measurements for. At the first consult we asked Laura if they worked at the shore, she said yes, we said we wanted to replace the window treatments before the season started she said great, then crickets. And then it was too late. But after our experience, in hindsight, it was ultimately for the best. It was a full year from start to finish. Three separate treatments on two different orders had to be redone (Laura mismeasured and then the poor explanations for how two of the products would look/function once installed). And as usual, never an apology - not even for the measurement issue. So weird. How hard is it to say "I'm sorry I..." They did say, "We'll get a rush on this!" But, we were always having to follow-up with them when weeks would go by with no update and during 2021 nobody was rushing anything so it fell as so much lip service. To be clear, there was 1 manufacturing related interruption around a fabric choice. The rest was on them. As Dan was leaving our house after the final install, he acknowledged it took a year. He didn't apologize for it, just acknowledged it. And then immediately blamed the supply chain. The supply chain didn't poorly explain the products. The supply chain didn't mismeasure. The supply chain didn't forget about an entire work stream at another property. Find another company. read more

I went to this establishment as I had two shades that needed repair. I was met by the owner who was very friendly and ready to help. Two individuals looked at the problems and attempted to correct the problems as I waited. It took them a very short period of time and everything was corrected. I was extremely appreciative. I stopped in AD Ambiance Design in Blue Bell today looking for a replacement looped cord for a Hunter Douglas pleated shade that I bought in 2011 from an out-of-business window treatment store. I was very pleased with the two very pleasant and knowledgeable store associates who supplied me with 2 free cords of the exact style I needed. Austin also gave me explicit instructions on how to replace the cord as well as setting the correct tension on the cord, so it is not to tight which will ensure longevity of the cord.
