Signage was very accurate and it was simple to find the elevator that leads down to iron golf inside the Cambria. At the front desk we met Bob, the manager. He was delightful to meet! Very genuine and naturally down to earth. I thought we had arrived during happy hour since that's what it said online, but apparently that's not for all locations. The website is not Detroit location specific. So that was a little disappointing but that didn't ruin our time. Cameron was very helpful with getting us set up, especially since it was our first time trying this type of golfing experience. Chris was absolutely fantastic in assisting with golf club selection, tips on how to swing, where to stand, and just full of useful knowledge to really make the competition real. Loved his fun personality as well. We really liked having him around. If it was up to me I would've had him stay in our section the whole time and play with us. We even ended up ordering a drink and an apple ice-cream treat to snack on. With all that combined, it truly was a really fun and enjoyable time.

We made a 9 PM reservation but weren't able to get started until 9:30 PM. What made the wait even more frustrating was the woman at the front desk. Every time we tried asking a question, she would walk away instead of assisting us, which only prolonged the process. When you make a reservation, you expect things to be a little more organized. On a positive note, the inside was SUPER cute! Lots of neon lights, cool decor, and a fun atmosphere. Definitely a place where you can grab some cute pictures! Once we FINALLY got set up, everything was smooth sailing! We had a great time mini bowling, and the experience itself was really fun. Overall, the vibes and entertainment were there, but the customer service and timing could use some improvement. I'd definitely consider giving Iron 5 Golf another chance, hopefully with a smoother check-in experience next time!

It doesn't get much better than TPC Michigan. Played here many times as a guest, and the quality of…read morethe course both in design and upkeep is tough to match. If you've ready my other golf course reviews, one of my pet peeves of Michigan courses is the over-watering so many do. This is NOT the case with TPC. What does this mean? No mud-balls, nice runout in the fairways, and green which do NOT get chewed up with huge ball mark craters. This is a *golfers* club. Never got the chance to eat here, the grill was always closed when we finished (6pm?? odd). But be warned -- this is one of the most difficult tracks you will ever play. While it's not the most difficult off the tee, the approach shots require precision. There aren't many greens which aren't angled one way or another, so you have to get the line and distance just right. I do find the par 5s to be the easiest part of this course, however, so you do get a break from time to time. Also, most approach shots are level or downhill. There's really only 1 bad hole on this course (more on that later!) Some highlights: #1 - This is a good representation of what you'll see at TPC. Pretty generous fairway, with a green angled from left to right (close to far). If you push your 2nd shot you'll either catch a pretty deep bunker, or if it's really far right, into the marsh. But hit it a little left/long, you'll catch the bunker in back. Geesh. There's really no bailout area unless you're short/left. #3 Is your first par 5, and it's all about positioning your 2nd for an easier shot into the green. I'm not a long hitter (230 off the tee) and I can get it down there for a wedge in. But it's a small narrow green, so getting the proper angle into the green makes the 3rd so much easier! #4 is where it starts to get tough. Long par 3 with a super narrow green. Indicative of what you'll see at TPC #6 is a short par 4, but again, the approach is the tough par. Over water, with really no bailout. Hit it left/long and a small pot bunker awaits you. Hit it short or right and you're in the water. #7 on the card plays 542 from the blue tees, but the hole plays much shorter due to the downhill 2nd shot that just runs and runs. ANOTHER narrow green, but you should only have a wedge in with a couple of good shots. #8 is a pretty par 3, and you finally get a LITTLE break with a larger green. But again, you cannot hit it short unless you're a bit right! #9 is a 400 yard par 4, and you'll get a large green to welcome you. Not much trouble here, but short right and you'll find a bunker. #11 has a split fairway. Big hitters can take it to the right and have a flip wedge in, us mortals have to play up the left. While there is trouble around the green, there is SOME room to miss it. To me, this hole is all about the tee shot. #12 is their "signature" par 3. If the pin is in the front, it's a small landing area, but when it's in the back, you better get it back there. A little bit of room to the left of the green on this one. #13, another good downhill par 5. The green is what makes this hole tricky. Kind of a "clover leaf" and you need to get the ball on the proper level. Ok, #14. 429 from the blues, but the off the tee distance isn't the difficult part. The problem is you will be FORCED to hit a 170-200 yard shot for your 2nd, because you cannot hit the tee ball through the fairway, otherwise you're in the junk. I'm not sure how the blue-haired members play this hole. Maybe up and around to the right, where there's a 10 yard wide area? Perhaps into the adjacent hole? Not sure. I'm guessing some environmental laws prevent them from extending the fairway out, but if they could, it would make this hole soooo much better. It needs to be extended about 50-75 yards more so you can hit your drive as far as you want. #15 gets you to the home stretch. Another difficult par 3, but at least penalty areas aren't everywhere! #16 is a short par 4, but don't let that fool you. Difficult to hit this shallow, awkward green. Keep it long if you can. #17, really, as I type this and go through the holes in my mind, the par 5s here are just really good. This is a nice risk/rewards. The water can come into play off the tee if you pull this left, and positioning of the 2nd shot is important for a decent angle to green guarded by big hills right, and water left. Too bad this isn't the finishing hole. You can make birdie here, or double with one good or bad swing. #18, for a finishing hole, eh, it's ok. Not great, not terrible. Marsh crosses the fairway, and for a guy like me, I can't really reach it unless I pull it left a bit. Go a little right, however, and you're blocked out from the green by a big tree. Green is pretty large compared to others. I don't know if I would join here if I lived closer -- it may just be too hard to play on a daily basis, but you sure will get better if you did. On the plus side, the course is totally walkable, and I always enjoy a good walk.

I played a quick solo 9 here today (weekday afternoon) and enjoyed the course…read more Vibe: Definitely a great course for kids and those just learning the game--I noticed a number of parents/grandparents out there giving some lessons (it slows play a little but I didn't find the course too slow). It's a fun place if you have 90+ mins and want to work on your short irons and putting. People seemed like they were learning or having fun--not a place you feel pressure to be good at. Layout: Lots of water, but pretty easy to clear (#9 was a longer carry from the blue tees); sand traps weren't too threatening (some were out of play). The condos are close on 2-3 holes, so you have to be mindful to not end up in a backyards but I generally didn't see that as an issue. While a cart isn't normally necessary on such a short course, a few holes are far apart, which would make for a long walk if you didn't have one. I brought all of my irons but only used about 5 clubs (7i, 8i, 9i, PW, LW) + putter from the blue tees. If I played the whites, it would be 4 clubs + putter. Tee boxes: About the same quality as the general fairways. Good enough shape overall. The yardage figures did seem off a little (a few holes played ~10-15 yds shorter than indicated--I just played down a club). Greens: A few patchy areas but generally pretty decent. Medium speed; a few breaks and undulations to add a little challenge. Other notes: very nice and accommodating staff; restaurant right at the clubhouse; only $10/round (+$5 for a cart). All the water meant lots of geese and goose droppings, mostly on #1 and #9. Overall, a nice little par 3 that I hope to get back to a couple times/yr since it's near my house. They seem like they take pride in it.
