There's a recipe in my bumper Madhur Jaffrey cookbook for besan barfee. But you know what? Why bother, when you can buy it ready-made from Ambala, which stocks a bewildering range of barfee (Indian gram flour fudge-cakes) and snacky Bombay Mix, Gujerati Mix and other savouries.
An Indian friend said we had to try Ambala's samosas. He wasn't wrong. The fist-sized pastry packages are stuffed with superspiced potato, mustard seeds and onion. Zap in the microwave for 40 seconds, tear off a corner to let the steam escape, drool as you wait for your samosa to cool to eating temperature.... Fabulous. read more
