Shop and go exit.

The soap that I wanted to use for my daughter was available for delivery by Amazon in about five days, or I could pick it up at Amazon Fresh the following day. So I chose the pickup option and my mom and I headed over to the store. But I'm from a small city in Oregon and that's where my mom lives, so she'd never seen something like an Amazon Fresh/Amazon Go store before. She works in a grocery store herself and given the novelty of being able to walk in and out without paying in a traditional way we had to wander in so she could take a look and report to her coworkers. I actually realized when I was walking around that this would be a good way for me to grocery shop without having to interact with others. I'd visited the Amazon Go store in Ogilvie several years ago, pre-pandemic, but I hadn't realized that there were more stores that had popped up (apparently besides the Norridge location there's also one in the Niles area). This one was much more extensive than the one at the Metra station, though; the size of a typical grocery. They have produce, a hot/prepared food section, and basically anything you'd expect to see in a grocery store. I saw some things that I haven't been able to find at Jewel or Mariano's, and I found a few items that I hadn't seen before. However, they don't have quite the selection of a traditional grocery. When you walk into the store, you have the option to do the cash-free shopping or traditional shopping. If you choose to do grab and go, you need to open your Amazon app to get a QR code to enter the store so they can charge you as you shop. I assume you can put things back if you pick them up, but the thing I remember from when I visited Amazon Go the first time is that you NEVER pick up items for other shoppers because it will charge your account, not theirs. If on the other hand you opt for traditional grocery you'll go through a different turnstile-type entrance to get into the store. When I was leaving, I was glad that I did choose to use the grab and go because there was a line of four or five people at the checkout station but Mom and I were able to simply walk out, since we'd been bagging items as we shopped and I had scanned my QR. I don't know if I'd go out of my way to shop here; driving 25 minutes or so to Norridge or Niles specifically for this is not really appealing. However, if I was near one of them I might make a stop here. I was here on a Sunday around noon and it was pretty dead, but I don't know if that's typical or was a fluke--or if this is still new to the area and they haven't really drawn their customers yet.

Hey, I would like to say that I enjoyed the experience of the store in the neighborhood since the place is very clean and all of the meat and seafood are fresh and very tasty. It's much cleaner than Osco-Jewel and other stores that are older. The pricing for items are fair or on par as compared to the local stores. It is interesting to see the pricing on each fruit purchase which bring concern when I go to other stores they weigh fruit by per pound. It makes me think of what I actually pay for each item in regular stores. We have gone there several time to buy a few things and hope more people will go there to support it. We will continue to visit and buy there nice selection of frozen foods and more. It is awful weird to need to have an app to get into the store and so we just do that. The average older person who be stuck and not know what to do upon entering the store. Some of the consumer goods on everyday stuff is really good on a some items. It looks as if you need to check on what you buy and what it cost. If you find this helpful, hit the thumbs up for this review. Also, if you can swipe left to look at my other reviews and hit the thumbs up on the pictures and reviews that you like, it would be great to support me and Yelp.

Excellent customer service by the team members, and very helpful navigating and explaining the checkout process. It was their first store opening, and the store was well stock and plenty of shopping carts for customers to use. They have plenty of organic foods, can goods, fresh vegetables, milk, cheese, seafood, meats, and plenty more. Will definitely be back to try the hot food department. The checkout process was super easy, and the plenty of parking space.

And the fact that an employee straight-up admitted that management refuses to do anything about it? That tells you everything you need to know--this place is cutting corners and doesn't give a damn about its customers' health. Imagine picking up a box of cereal only to realize it's been a rat's personal toilet. Or grabbing a bag of chips and wondering if a mouse has nibbled on it before you even get a chance to. That's beyond nasty. And let's not even get started on mice running around at the checkout! You're out here just trying to pay for your groceries, and a whole rodent colony is having a parade under the register? This isn't just gross it's dangerous. If they're letting mice roam around freely, imagine what's happening behind the scenes. If the front of the store is this bad, what does the stockroom look like? What about the area where they prepare fresh food? If they even have a health inspector, that person must be getting paid off or blind as hell. Honestly, this place should be shut down until they get their act together. No one should have to shop in those conditions. You might as well just grab your groceries straight from a dumpster at least then you know what you're getting.

I have found other great prepared foods at Mariano's that I enjoyed a lot, e.g,. succulent beef pot roast. It is fantastic that Mariano's have self checkout kiosks, which can help with convenience. I didn't post about my bad experience last time because I was giving them a chance to prove I was wrong. Two days ago I picked up my grocery order, and it will be the last time I shopped at the store, Park Ridge is seven more minutes down the street and they have intelligent workers. Mariano's charged me $2.99 for an expired milk which clearly had a label on it reduced to $1.35 well who the hell wants to buy expired milk? They gave me moldy old strawberries, my bread was smashed, the green pepper and onion in my bag were moldy and rotten. What is wrong with these people, in my world it's because they don't give a shit. I will give Mariano's credit as you can go on the app and instantly receive a refund, but it's not the point.

I left the store feeling deeply hurt and shocked that this could happen in 2025. No customer should ever be treated this way. For a manager to behave like this makes it even more disturbing. Businesses should be safe, welcoming spaces for everyone, and this type of discrimination cannot be ignored. I am sharing my experience to warn others and to urge corporate to hold this location accountable.

What attracted me were the signs in the window "HUGE PRICE CUTS" & the sign for a pint of blueberries for $0.99/pint. Almost every year we go to Degrandchamp's Blueberry Farm in South Haven & pick fresh blueberries. We freeze them and use them over the course of the year for cereal, blueberry muffins, pancakes and just to eat them cause they're so dam good. Well my freezer stock is almost gone and I've been keeping my eyes out for a good price on Blueberries. $0.99/pint is a pretty good price (limit of 3) so I went in straight to the produce & picked some up. They also have red grapes for 0.$99/lb. As long as I was in the store I looked around. The deli has some incredible sales on lunch meats, Lean pastrami, lean corn beef & 3 types of Turkey lunch meat all for $2.99/lb. I also found the 1/2 gal of milk is only $1.29 (reg. price). As I was walking to the front I stopped by the bakery. I found a tiramisu cake for $6.99 this is usually $12.99 @ Mariano's for the same size cake. Pro Tip I bought 3 pints of blueberries for $0.99 as this was the limit (normal price is $2.49/pint) and went back in & bought 3 more of $0.99/pint. MY BAD!!!! I love blueberries and you can freeze them so I like to keep these bad boys around as they are delicious & combat cancer, protects your heart stabilizes blood sugar, boosts memory (& something else but I can't remember lol ), prevents constipation & chock full of antioxidants. I'm probably going to go back again & get more as blueberries are like garlic you can never have too much.
