A very nice platter of "Pickles and Cheese" had some interesting things on there that were a great appetizer. Pickled pineapple, sliced cucumber and such. It definitely made me ready for the main course. I chose the ribs and was a little jealous of my friend's choice of the brisket. It was a full rack of ribs, which arrived not quite warm though the fried potatoes on the side were still hot. Perhaps a little overdone, but I have a very high standard for barbecue. Before I start, I'm a native Texan so I know a thing or two about BBQ -- picky as hell. It's been a home run at B-Smokery both times. If I had to pick, their ribs and coleslaw are my favorite -- plenty of meat on the ribs, and nice vinegar hint to the slaw to give it that acidic kick. This particular night, I had their "small" all-in platter that samples all the meat -- ribs, pulled pork, brisket, and two sides, coleslaw and grilled veggies were my choice. Cornbread included. Everything was delicious. And the "small" portion was super filling. If I had to be critical, the beer selection is fairly limited. But they've expanded the bar selection since the previous time I was here, so at least they're getting there :) I warmly recommend B-Smokery -- go there today, like now, and get your BBQ grub on! Lots of value here with affordable, savory, filling portions. Honest assessment: Best BBQ I've had in Finland.

A-OK, but expensive, hence the two stars…read more Smoker's Beer & BBQ was opened in early July 2018 where the restaurant Retro used to be. The food was OK, but I have to say it was very expensive for what it was. A brisket was 19eur, but the side of mac & cheese was 3.50eur on top of that. I had a 0.4L beer (8eur) to go along with that and that which brought the price to 30.50eur, yikes! That is just way too expensive for what it was. If you've been to any good BBQ joint in the US, please don't expect to get that kind of experience in Finland. First of all, the brisket was WAY to dry and the mac & cheese didn't have any salt it in, or at least it didn't taste like anything. The only thing that made the food pretty good was to drown the brisket in the house BBQ sauce. Sadly there wasn't almost anything that could be done to the mac & cheese. I have a bad feeling that this establishment won't be here for long. If the summer is good, they'll last with the beer sales that they get from the terrace, but the restaurant itself had only one other family besides me and my wife. If you are looking for a better place to dine, check out Il Gabbiano almost right next door.

Stopping into this little Tex-Mex Chili joint just blocks from the central train station made me feel at home. Their menu isn't extensive, but what chili shop's isn't? I went for the "Classic." What I got wasn't quite what a Texan would call "Chili." It had beans in it, which is a Cardinal Sin in the Lone Star State. Big no-no. But I guess they are Finnish, so I can't fault them too much. The meat was the smallest bit I've ever gotten in a chili bowl- but it was layered thick and deep with fresh tomatoes, cheddar cheese, onions, lime, and tortilla chips. The presentation was wonderful- it was colorful and looked delicious! The interior was small- they can only accommodate 5 diners, tops. But the cozy space inside is a great way to get out of the snow, and get some down-home Tex-Mex cooking! They play Spanish music over the speakers, but the staff doesn't speak it. The place is attractive, with cute water bottles, and fun place settings. It's a really nice looking spot, and they do make a welcome bit of my state's cooking. Bless their hearts!
