It had been over 30 years since my husband, and I had previously scoured the cities in search of that one perfect realtor to help us find the house that was perfect for us at that time. Jesse showed me a few houses and I really liked his feedback and and knowledge. He had answers to all of my questions, like what he thought a house was worth, and how high an offer should go up to before moving on. Unfortunately, Jesse got busy with other clients and he pawned me off to one of his associates working for him. Though this other agent seemed competent enough, it was clear to me that the agent lacked the experience and knowledge of Jesse and I didn't feel that comfortable with this other agent. Out of respect for Jesse helping me a lot in the beginning, I stayed with this other agent, but it just wasn't the same. I mean, after showing me a house, I asked this agent what the highest offer should be on the house, and all the agent said was whatever I'm comfortable paying for the house. ? We bought our house at the peak of the housing bubble, and when it came time to sell, the whole…read moreprocess was even more stressful then one might normally expect because 1) the bubble had burst, and 2) we found out we had a "mold house" which was typical of the style, time, and location where it was built. Between the market loss on the value of our house and the $82,000 cost (!) to get the mold remediation and reconstruction done, I was really freaking out about how much we were going to lose on the sale of the house. We started off using my stepdaughter's then-fiancé as our realtor, and it was a disaster. He was uncomfortable with how I stressed I was and was afraid to tell me anything he thought I might get more upset about, so he didn't do his job -- which was to tell us the truth about what he had to do to get our house sold. At one point we suddenly started getting solicitation letters from realtors, which I assumed had to be unethical because we already had one... Or so we thought. We found out we had fallen through the cracks and he had orgotten to renew our agreement, so we found out from other realtors that we were no longer represented and the house was no longer listed. When we signed on with the Barkleys we found out that some things our former realtor was doing or trying to do were unethical or illegal, and we knew that we could trust them to do it right. They weren't daunted by my extremely high stress level, they told us the truth about what had to be done to sell our house, and they got the job done in a relatively painless and quick time frame. Not only were they honest, they clearly knew what they were doing, and they were all absolutely lovely to work with. If we hadn't moved across the country I wouldn't hesitate to have them help sell our current house when the time comes for us to move into a senior facility.
