Unfortunately, our experience with Gentiva has been anything but reassuring, marked by chaos and unmet promises. It appears that their status as a large provider has led to complacency, assuming they can operate without accountability, or perhaps they are experiencing significant internal upheaval, as indicated by the frequent turnover of personnel. Here are a few specific issues we've encountered: Firstly, our dealings with Gentiva have been characterized by a lack of organization that we've found to be overwhelming. We often receive notifications from their staff about their impending visits with barely an hour's notice, which leaves us in a constant state of uncertainty regarding when to expect them. This unpredictability in scheduling has been a major inconvenience for us. Secondly, there's been an issue with the delivery of redundant medical equipment. Even though we already had a necessary concentrator and oxygen tanks, additional, unnecessary equipment was delivered. A representative from Gentiva assured us that the superfluous equipment would be collected and returned, yet this has not been resolved, causing confusion and concern over potential additional charges. Lastly, medications were ordered for us from a pharmacy that was neither convenient nor our choice without considering our preferences. This decision has complicated our situation further by adding an unnecessary layer of difficulty to managing our logistics. There is more that we could share, but suffice it to say, this has been a real disappointment. We switched to Eden Hospice, which affirmed that service levels can be great -- it has been a day and night difference. See our separate review of Eden Hospice, which we highly recommend.

My father was cared for by such an amazing team at Gentiva over the course of his last month on Earth. We chose Gentiva because my brother knew their business development person, AJ who was so responsive pulling the team together whenever we had any questions. My interactions were primarily with Kyndra, our assigned nurse, who was so kind and responsive. And Darcy, the night nurse, came within 30 minutes of our call the morning he died. Having her there with us - quarterbacking our family - administering medications, suggesting we play his favorite music, tending to him, and telling us what was happening so we could all be in the room when he took his last breath - was such a gift. We are so grateful for the kind and compassionate services of Gentiva and would recommend them to anyone needing hospice care for their loved one.

I am hoping to see more of this, in staff. Kim, mom's nurse, has been a good support system. Probably key in this situation . Monique, mom's CNA, has been helpful and a bright spot, twice a week! The We Honor program had a wonderful ceremony celebrating my late dad's military service and my mom as a navy spouse! I am still waiting to know about respite care, companionship for mom, and spiritual care. My mom's faith is very important to her and I have asked 3 times, for someone to talk with her. Our family never visits my mom, so I was hoping hospice could provide that. The social worker did recommend grief counseling, after I asked, but I am still seeking more for my mom. Like I said, I will update once I experience more. So far, some questions have been answered and problems solved. Kim, the nurse, has been a big help and information and supplies needed.

I am beyond upset and honestly appalled by what happened with Infinity Hospice…read more The nurses who came out were compassionate and professional--but the care coordinator completely failed us, and the consequences have been devastating. I originally reached out because we believed my husband was coming home to pass. Then everything changed--he had surgery, and it saved his life. I immediately informed the Infinity representative that he would now be discharged home with Home Health through the hospital. He told me, verbatim, "We do the same care as home health. We actually compete with the insurance companies and hospitals," and went on to assure me that my husband would actually receive more attentive care through their services. In that moment, it sounded like the best possible option. It was not. Because of that guidance, my husband was discharged on a Friday night under hospice care--completely inappropriate for his condition. When the nurses arrived, they began discussing comfort measures and medications to keep him "comfortable," and that's when it hit me something was very wrong. Having cared for my own parents at end of life, I knew this was not what he needed. I was then told I had been "misinformed." What followed was nothing short of a nightmare. For the entire weekend, we had: No support for his newly placed GI tube No instructions on how to avoid complications with the PEG or to even care for the point of insertion No chance of even getting an order for the formula needed to for nutritional needs (and remember he came home a day after surgery). Ensure was not going to cut it No medical guidance since the hospital thought he was going home on hospice I had to resort to searching online just to figure out how to properly clean the tube and discovered no peroxide or alcohol for cleaning. The hospital could not intervene because hospice had already taken over. I reached the Infinity representative the following day (he did not even bother to call me since the incident discovery), hen finally called back late in the afternoon and apologized for the "miscommunication" and claimed he was trying to fix the discharge orders. Then he disappeared. No follow-up. No accountability. Nothing. I had to text him, once again, to express my disappointment. He sent a text apologizing. (thanks) Because of this, we had no choice but to take my husband back to the ER just to get him re-admitted--so he could be discharged properly with the care he should have had all along. The damage is done. My husband is now significantly weaker. What should have been a recovery period turned into unnecessary suffering, confusion, and decline. I did everything I could in the meantime--ensuring he had nutrition as best as possible--but it was not enough without proper nutrition from the formula mix he would have had (prescription - not over the county). And the most heartbreaking part? We may now actually need hospice...because of what this "miscommunication" caused. This was not a small mistake. This was a catastrophic failure in guidance and responsibility. The emotional toll, physical decline, and chaos this created for our family is beyond words. Completely unacceptable.

Oh I've been around families using their…read moreservices, but when it's just you having to make life ending decisions, the thought of it is overwhelming and scary. With hospice you are never alone. The decisions you make are yours and these wonderful people come into your life and give you the backup you need. With a myriad of helps in place you can pick and choose what you need, change your mind if you want, ask a ton of questions and they are there. I got the impression with this service that not many families opt for in home care. It is a hard choice to make, and quite life altering/draining. The choice was easy for me because I had this wonderful team of nurses, aides, etc backing me up. Reassuring me what a wonderful job I was doing, I really could no nothing wrong with them behind me. You hear from them everyday, they can come everyday if that is what you need with checkups, bathing, bed changes. Always with a smile they encourage you on ... telling you your giving your family member the best gift you could give them in their final days/hours. I think maybe I was the one receiving the gift. I'll treasure my experience always. When your in need of hospice care ... please consider these angels who are with you in one of the worse moments in your life.

The Holiday parties and other activities they do are wonderful for residents and family members.
