Getting back to work after a career break is daunting by itself, and the pandemic didn't make it easier. I decided to work with these guys to learn more about reaching out to employers and landing interviews. I took the Networking, Resume and Interview package. I worked with John Roccia because he has had such an interesting career and I felt I really connected with him. He did a fantastic job with my resume makeover, I can see it working for me with my contacts as well as job sites. John is a big picture guy who gave me great direction that resulted in big impact on my search strategy. He was also happy to get down to the nitty gritties when I asked him a thousand questions on the little things that I needed to figure out. He was an amazing interviewer for my mock interview, and helped me prepare for the toughest questions that I dreaded. John also helped me connect with the local coach here at Seattle, Sara Dawson, so I could connect to her network. The self-study modules are quite intensive and although you end up doing a lot of work to complete the work they've cut out for you, you end up with great content that you can use for your interviews. The interview prep module was my favorite, and the research strategy they set was thorough. My only advice is to do more self-prep on the interview front, the research you do with the module is great and complete, but you will need to prepare for the STAR format and find your best behavioral interview answers before your mock interview so that you are ready. Overall, a very positive experience, I highly recommend their coaching modules and coaches. read more

Career coaching services were above my expectations. While I am a highly experienced professional, I had not looked for a job in 10+ years, so I had no idea what I was doing. ALV took the time to carefully listen during the intake process, suggest the appropriate program for my needs, then match me with coach John Roccia. He understands the modern job market; and his experience, framework, and suggestions have been extremely helpful in a) enhancing my mindset and confidence, while b) improving my approach through many practical and useful suggestions, which I can BUILD on and evolve as I go forward. After reaching a huge bump in the road with my career, I realized I needed some help from someone who knew what they were talking about (the wine and whine sessions with my friends were also helpful, just not quite as actionable). In walks John Roccia from Ama La Vida. He truly became my north star in a very tumultuous time and gave me: 1) A plan-of-attack to survive (in the short-term) a completely toxic and unhealthy work environment until I found the right next opportunity. 2) The steps to recalibrate and once again be able to be able to confidently talk about myself and my skills. 3) The ability to effectively and efficiently navigate a very quick interview process. The ALV modules were also SUPER robust and very helpful to think about my career more strategically as opposed to making a quick reactive decision. The trick here is being prepared to put in the time and work. There is no crystal ball that can tell you what you should be doing with your life to reach peak happiness. It has to come from you. What ALV did wonderfully was break down really complicated concepts (e.g. What's your purpose in life?) into manageable questions that will help you reach those answers. read more
