To my surprise, the driver's excellence in ALL was outstanding. Driver 78 (RP) was a huge cup of sunshine on a very crappy day. He arrived and assured me he would have me on the road in a few minutes (shieh he did), told me I had a great car (BMW 525i) and that it was in super shape! My ego flourished, but nothing compared to the driver's confidence and kindness. I want to be sure you knew that he was such a valuable resource to your firm and your brand! I have been an AMA member for over 10 years. I live in Canmore and have relied on AMA services many times in the Canmore and Banff areas. What happened yesterday represents a clear breakdown of service and communication. Yesterday, my vehicle broke down and would not start while I was approximately 90 km from my home in Canmore, in Cochrane, in the Bow Ridge neighbourhood. I contacted AMA at 1:00 pm to request roadside assistance. I required a tow truck and transportation home. I was given an estimated arrival time of 6:46 pm, meaning an estimated waiting time of approximately six hours. I understand that there may be other emergencies that require priority assistance. I was prepared to wait. However, after waiting more than six hours, the way my situation was handled was unacceptable. The vehicle was stranded in Bow Ridge, an area with no nearby warm places to wait. The closest warm location was approximately 3 km away on foot, which was not a realistic option in winter conditions. For that reason, I had to take a taxi to downtown Cochrane to wait somewhere warm. Each taxi trip costs $18. At 6:00 pm, I called AMA specifically to confirm whether assistance would actually arrive at the scheduled time, because at that moment the service had not yet been assigned to any provider, which I found concerning. During this call, the representative did not place me on hold or attempt to confirm availability with the service provider. Instead, she simply checked the app, which still showed an arrival time of 6:46 pm, and told me that assistance would be there at the time shown in the app. Based solely on that information, and while I was still in a warm location, I returned to my vehicle and paid another $18 taxi fare. The tow truck never arrived at the confirmed time, and until that moment, the service had not been assigned to anyone. I was also never contacted to inform me of any delay. At 7:10 pm, I called AMA again and clearly explained my situation. I made it very clear how frustrated and angry I was with the service and the information I had been given. I explained that I had returned to my vehicle because AMA had confirmed the arrival time, that I was now sitting in my car in winter conditions, without heat, with no warm places nearby, and 90 km from home. The response I received was dismissive: I was told to find another ride to a warm place, meaning yet another $18 taxi fare, and that I would have to wait another hour just to receive an update. No effort was made to locate assistance or improve the situation. Based on my previous experiences with AMA, whenever I had called for assistance before, I had been sent to Standish Towing & Recovery. For that reason, and given the lack of action from AMA, I decided to call Standish directly to confirm if they were available and if they could assist me. They immediately confirmed that they had a tow truck in Cochrane at that moment. AMA had never communicated with Standish, and I do not know what assistance they were planning to send. After Standish contacted AMA for authorization, a tow truck arrived within 10 minutes. I also want to emphasize that there were services available to help me. After waiting more than six hours and explaining my situation in detail, it is inexcusable that AMA made no effort to seek an alternative provider or solution. This demonstrates a complete lack of urgency and responsibility. This leads to an obvious question: Why, after waiting more than six hours and clearly explaining my situation, was no action taken to locate available assistance when I was able to secure help in 10 minutes with a single phone call? This experience shows poor communication, lack of follow-through, and a failure to act, despite clear information being provided multiple times. As a result of this experience, I am extremely dissatisfied and will not be renewing my AMA membership. I no longer have confidence in a service that relies on an app rather than verifying availability, confirms an arrival time without confirmation, and then leaves a long-term member without assistance. read more

Have been a AMA member for decades. This was a gift from hubby, never fails I was constantly calling him to help me because the car wouldn't start or just ole broken down. I must say it's been a life safer for towing fast if you're in an unsafe location. Where traffic is crazy or on the highway where no one stops to help. Now there is a downside and it's this, snow/ winter condition is always a factor in getting a tow. That will take hours to days, you're not the only one that needs help in these conditions on those days. Police get priority for tow truck to clear up accidents. Those are the days I stay home and don't drive anywhere. I have paid for my membership over and over with the services they supply. From movie tickets, travel insurance, travel agents, money exchange, motor vehicle registration, passport just to name a few the list goes on. If you look at what AMA offer it's well worth the fee for the membership. This location has parking and one electric vehicle charging station. It could be limited when busy. read more

There was a light snow Monday evening and night. On Tuesday, the wait time for a tow was 13 to 19 hours. It's Wednesday and the wait time is 12 hours. Anyway, I called at 1:18 p.m. Tuesday and told there was a 13 hour wait. It's almost 7 a.m. on Wednesday and no tow yet, so I called (getting to speak to a human is not easy, either) to see what's up. Apparently what I understood as waiting for a call that that the tow truck was coming was actually me having to call back again to see what wait times were. This is the first time I've called AMA for anything, and I'm not impressed. How many tow trucks do they have in Calgary? Would you need two hands to count them? The nice lady on the phone says wait times can hit 72 hours or more when things get really busy. So...not sure what I'm paying for with my membership fees. read more

AMA is the biggest joke of a company I have ever delt with. My mom and I were driving out of the city when we got a flat tire. When I called for a tow truck, they said since it's not my vehicle there's nothing they can do. The 2 ladies I spoke to were miserable and came across as rude and unprofessional. I forget one of the ladies name because her attitude made me not want to remember, the other named "Dixie". Even though I pay for a membership, the membership gets me nothing but a bitchy women on the other end of the phone. When they didn't let ME use MY perks (that I pay for) of MY membership, they proceeded to tell me a tow truck would be 1071$. that is just absurd. I hope the company fixes their costumer service problems and fires the people who don't know how to be civil with a teenager trying to help their mom on the other line. We are still sitting on the side of a busy highway waiting for help, which AMA could not provide. I do not recommend this waste of space company. And to Dixie, you're a bitch. read more

Went to the new AMA office at Westbrook mall today. Very clean and shiny. Checked in and sat down. I was there to return my license plate since I have sold my car. 30 minutes later, I approached the desk and asked why it was taking so long. I was told I needed to see a registry person and it would be another 45 - 60 minutes. She suggested I return in the morning at 9 am. I asked if there was any allowance made for members. I was told no! Why not. I am paying good money each year for myself and my husband (and have for over 25 years) and we have never needed road assistance or any other service that costs them money. I left more than annoyed and went to the local registry office and was out in 5 minutes with a refund and no plate. You may have a shiny new office AMA but your service is SO MUCH WORSE than it was at your other location. At least there you knew how many people were in line in front of you. My car wouldn't start while I was in the parking lot at West Edmonton Mall yesterday. Because of the height restriction, a smaller vehicle was sent to move it to a more accessible location. The driver, Russel couldn't have been more helpful. He was friendly and reassured me that a larger tow truck was on its way and that I didn't need to wait for it. He said that the truck would tow my car to the dealership and they would take care of it from there. I was impressed with his kindness and caring. I was able to go home and when the other driver, Brent dropped off my car, he updated me with text messages. Thank goodness for the AMA and for the wonderful service of Russel and Brent. read more

I went through a whole process trying to find a way to pay AMA through my bank without having to wait til the actual bill date, so I paid my monthly bill early to avoid potentially missing a payment. They ended up taking the amount on the actual bill date, despite me paying through my bank. It went NSF, and charged my account for the NSF, and then AMA tried to make me pay THEIR NSF fee. Talking to a customer service rep, after waiting A HOLE HOUR on hold, I asked them to take the remaining balance owed out of my account. They wouldn't. So, I figured I'd just pay it on the next date along with the next month. They gave me until the 27th, I didn't get paid til the 28th. So I was ready to pay everything, and they told me my policy was cancelled. I was shocked. They offered to redo the policy, which jumped almost a thousand dollars and they wouldn't let me go monthly anymore because of the cancellation. That's over 3000s dollars they wanted from me to get another policy. I'm currently on hold with them as I write this to get a claims history letter for my other insurer, it's been 1 hour and 45 minutes. That's almost 2 hours on hold for nothing. I will NEVER recommend the AMA insurance to anyone. This is an awful organization and honestly, the better business bureau should be notified, in my opinion. read more

I ended up paying out of my pocket using another company, then promised to give back 50% of what I paid. My last night experience ( Jan 12 2024 early morning) is the worst that anyone needing help from AMA Calgary in a critical situation would have. My calls to AMA at about 2 in the morning from Calgary domestic airport to help me boost my car's battery ( with outside temperature around (-) 42 deg C with wind chill)) were answered by a computer who kept on asking questions rather than helping me out in my distressing situation. I had to finally seek assistance from a private contractor. I am a 74 years old citizen and have been an AMA member for about 20 years and have not sought even a single assistance from AMA in 2023. While AMA claims to treat all its members as family and touts a friendly and prompt service, the reality is quite the opposite. Can anyone from the AMA management call me to offer an apology and ensure a better service. read more

Please, Please go with another insurance Company. This Company was the most scummy Insurance company I have ever had and honestly if I could have afforded a lawyer to sue the crap out of them I would have. Insanely long story over the course of 5+ years but TLDR: I had a loan for a $60,000 car and took it on and off parking insurance for the winter ( it was a nice car and I only drove it in the summer ) When you have a loan it is REQUIRED you have full insurance if you drive it. Spring time I had requested them to put my car back on full insurance in person. The person who assisted me made an error and gave me BASIC INSURANCE. (I STILL TO THIS DAY DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW THAT IS POSSIBLE ON A CAR WITH A LOAN) I obviously have an accident a short while after that (within the month) and I go to claim my insurance (cause I obviously thought I was on full insurance, they denied because I only had basic). They stole MY documents with my signature on them when I went in person to talk to them about this to try and hide the evidence. They kicked me out and refused to give me my documents (WHICH HAD MY WRITING ON IT AND I HAD BROUGHT IN) A short while later they Emailed the documents to me which were clearly crumpled up and thrown in the trash. An absolute unbelievable experience dealing with them regardless of the outcome. To take documents that I BROUGHT IN and KICK ME OUT without giving me my stuff back is INSANE. And to also not take the fault for messing up and giving me the wrong insurance and basically saying F**k off is just insanity, I obviously was out all the money I put into the car, and also out all the money I paid for FULL INSURANCE UP UNTIL THAT POINT. (Which I have proof of obviously) I have brushed over a lot of other stuff that occurred but I HIGHLY suggest you look elsewhere for insurance. :) read more

I had my seasonal tire swap done by AMA (they contract it out) at my home yesterday. The payment machine would not work. The person doing the swap struggled with the machine which would not connect. He said he & his colleagues have been asking for new machines for a long time and the boss would not comply. He then asked me if I had cash. No, said I. Would I drive to the bank? No, said I. I am paying by credit card which is offered as an option. Finally, by using his own phone as a hot spot, he managed to make the connection. We probably spent as much time trying to get the machine to work as it did for him to swap the tires. One other quite disturbing thing. As we were waiting over & over again for a connection, he looked up at me (I'm elderly) and asked, out of the blue, "Do you live alone?" Not part of our conversation, we had not been talking about anything person so it came out of the blue. Why would you ask an elderly woman if she lives alone? I was happy to tell him my nephew lives with me and he's a policeman. That was the end of that conversation. read more

POOR SERVICE. my vehicle broke down, I called AMA, I was directed to sign up on line. it took a while to be able to finish signing up in cold. when I finally spoke with an agent, I was told that there was a 9 hour wait time for the two truck. after 24 hours I was still waiting. so I called AMA and the agent told me that she didn't know when they would show up. I read the reviews saying that there was 5 days and 9 days wait time . I called Alberta Rose towing services from Google and he was there in 15 min. very quickly hooked up everything and towed my vehicle to dealership. he charged me $145 which was even lower than AMA. apparently they did not have enough tow trucks or staff which results to this kind of service. VERY POOR SERVICE FROM AMA. I cancelled my membership and will never call them again. read more

DON'T BE FOOLED BY AMA INSURANCE! I went in to get insurance on my 18 year old vehicle. My wife and I are senior citizens. We signed the paperwork presented to us, which included a statement about a $100 premium retention if we cancelled the policy within 30 days. We specifically asked the agent, before signing the paperwork what would happen if we sold the vehicle, and he clearly told us that there would be a $100 premium retention if we cancelled early. The quoted premium for 1 year was $2,267, which is fairly close to the value of the vehicle. Less than 48 hours later, we found a national insurer who offered us exactly the same coverage for $450 for 1 year. So we went back in to the AMA office to cancel the policy (less than 48 hours of receiving it). The agent told us we would not only lose the $100 premium retention, but they would also be charging us a $100 penalty for early cancellation. This 'penalty' was not mentioned in any of the paperwork we signed, nor was it mentioned by the original issuing agent. We spoke to a supervisor, but she didn't care. She just said we breached the contract and would have to suffer the penalty for it. She didn't care that we were long time members of AMA, and she didn't care that we are seniors on a fixed income. In the end, we had to leave without any satisfaction because it was clear that they were not going to do anything for us. Their ethical practice and behaviour in forcing us to accept a penalty that was not mentioned in any conversation or described in any contractual documentation for less than 48 hours is despicable.
