Intact Insurance is one of the worst options for businesses. Their Commercial Business Vehicle insurance is a scam. You sign a contract expecting your vehicle to be covered for a predetermined amount in case of total loss, but when you file a claim--whether for theft or any other reason--their Claims Representatives and Total Loss Managers will drastically underpay you. They will claim your contract isn't valid and disregard the agreed terms, offering you far less than what your vehicle is worth without providing any proof or clear explanation. First, they'll delay your claim for months with lowball offers, then ignore your calls and emails, making it nearly impossible to communicate with their representatives or file a complaint. They bully you into accepting their terms because their corrupt system, supported by upper management, is designed to exploit clients. They don't care about losing a customer today, knowing they can always find someone new to scam tomorrow. The legal system does little to protect consumers from these large insurance companies, as it is heavily influenced by them. The best way to protect yourself from such exploitation is to avoid companies like Intact altogether. Cancel your policy and boycott them, hoping that one day their unethical practices lead to their downfall. read more

Small damage took 6 months to fix after an estimated 3 weeks, kept pushing the due date back ignoring phone calls and lying to me. My 94 year old father had tenant insurance for his suite at a seniors' facility. He paid a full year premium in September 2024. In November 2024 he fell and was in hospital for 5 months and then moved to a long term care facility. We did not renew his policy in September 2025 as he no longer lived at the insured location. My father passed away in September 2025. I just received a registered letter from Intact advising that he owes $43 because they automatically renewed his policy. I called Intact and then Marsh (the broker) to explain the situation. When I called Intact I was transferred and then cut off. When I contacted Marsh I was told the easiest thing would be to just pay the $43. Not going to happen. So now I have to request a back dated cancellation via Marsh which will then go to Impact. I am required to send a copy of the death certificate, copy of the Will indicating I am the executor and a letter from the facility verifying the date the suite was vacated by my father. Impact will review and decide whether or not to approve the back dated request for cancellation. What a scam. BTW if you pay your premium monthly and cancel you are supposed to get a pro-rated refund for the balance of the period. BUT if you pay in advance for the full year you do not qualify for any refund if you leave early. read more

Horrendous. Some of the worst customer service I've experienced in my life. Don't respond to messages, cause problems to avoid transferring calls, zero updates, online app is never updated, argue about everything to prevent even reaching anyone-ie my claim number was too old, so I couldn't possibly be calling about a claim, while repairs are IN PROGRESS, type stuff. Refuse escalation. When you do reach someone, either extremely poorly trained, or intentionally incompetent. And chat "does not have access" to any information. Ever. The worst insurance company in human history.I went to thier center after claiming hail damage they deemed 0% our fault they told me at the centre the car was a write off. I later get an email saying my car is repairable so I phoned them. the girl said the email was sent out by mistake my car is a write off. then I get a quote to repair the write off. then I get an email saying they are paying to fix the write off after they find out the value of the car like magic. I spent the entire day with them on the phone to get section C removed and now I'm not covered for collision and they are sending a check for half of the repairs the other Half went to the lien holder. they had me so mixed up an frustrated I could not bare to speak to them any longer. now to change companies I have to get it fixed out of. pocket 5,000 dollars read more

We requested a quote for insurance through our broker and was given pricing. One we agreed to the quote and the documents were drawn the amount changed. There was no notice of change and it would have gone un-noticed but we did the calculation only to find that the amount charged was 800.00 more than originally quoted. This is not good business and somewhat slimy to be honest. In discussions with the Broker (HUB), Intact would not stand behind there original quote. Sad way to manage things. Be careful in your dealings with Intact and CHECK YOUR NUMBERS! We have now cancelled and gone to another Broker and Insurance Company seeking a better outcome. read more

Dealing with surex and insured by intact Canceled our insurance in April and still receive notice of payment request to continue with them. Our new insurance company is 36% reduction in annual costs and we increased coverage for our vehicles. Definitely would not recommend surex or intact. read more

This has been one of the worst insurance experiences I've ever had. My vehicle was damaged by hail on August 5, 2024, in Calgary, and after their review on August 19th, I was informed that my car was considered a total loss. One of their representatives told me I'd be contacted within five business days. It's now November 5, and I have yet to receive any follow-up--no calls, no emails. My brother had his condo insurance with Intact. Sadly, he suddenly & unexpectedly passed away in early August 2023 Intact was notified of his passing & that I was the Executor of his Estate and despite concerns agreed to insure his empty condo until the New Year 2024 After that, I never heard from them until a week ago advising of past due payments, which I immediately paid in full. After that, they advised that they had cancelled his policy effective January 8th, as they "had called his cell phone repeatedly, leaving messages & e-mails notifying of the past due status & did not receive any response" I tried to explain that it was VERY difficult for someone that is DEAD to respond to voicemail & e-mails, however, they refused to reconsider. I would have given them ZERO stars or gone into the negatives if I could Thanks for NOTHING Intact. I would give this company a zero review if I could. I was with, Blue circle insurance for years. It was an amazing friendly and welcoming company. Ever since Brokerlink has taken over the company, I have had nothing but issues. Incompetent, rude representatives. They ask you what your agents name is when you call, but they also tell me I don't have an agent when I ask for a name??? They have taken money out of my account with no authorization. Ruined a family vacation by taking the money, it took 3 months for them to get it back to me. This happened on more than 1 occasion! If you are smart stay the hell away from this company! Hi there, I am one of the many frustrated with this company. I was dealing with the Airdrie branch and have nothing good to say about the multiple people I have dealt with over the years. Some examples of their incompetence/lack of caring are attempting to renew my insurance every year changing my coverage to full coverage. Every year I called or went into the office to change it until this year I decided to send a message and not renew. Then as a final insult, an $80 invoice for cancelling an expired policy. Absolutely terrible. Speaking with the representatives in person did nothing but increase my frustration with this company. Leaving me wondering if there was anyone competent at that company. My car got hit and was a write off (not at fault) They have a police where 2 days after they give you the offer to settle you have to return the rental car. When I was given the offer to settle the accident I told them I'd talk to my wife and get back to them. So I called them back and didn't get an answer and left a message (Wednesday). Thursday came around and I left another message. Friday I left another message and at this point now the car is do back before 5, and without a response from them I can't do anything or move forward with a new car because I can't get ahold of them. So I would be without a car for the weekend and would have to forfeit my weekend plans (cottage) So I kept the rental till Monday, Called and left another message, no reply, so I then tried to switch adjusters, they tried calling my first one and couldn't contact her either. Finally on Tuesday I got a call back, and now I owe $124 for the rental. Even though my adjuster disappeared for four business days and couldn't let me move forward with a new car, they still won't cover the car rental, and not a single person even apologized for my adjuster going missing for four days leaving my in limbo. Very unprofessional, let me know you'll be out of office, cover the $124 for screwing me over, even an apology would have been nice. But no, they just kept repeating "you only get two days with the rental after offer" read more

My car was totalled march 8th and 2 months later I'm still waiting on the payout to the finance company. To date FOUR checks have been sent. Apparently they keep getting "lost in the mail". They won't even send it priority and I can't get another vehicle until the loan is paid off, so I'm likely waiting at least another week. read more

There should be a Negative side to the review stars. I have been dealing with this company because my Broker switched companies. Included with a list of fixed problems the latest events over the last week: Wrong information about date of birth still not fixed. Tonight I tried to log in using my mobile app and an error message came up stating that I had the wrong email or password (that worked just fine two days ago). I phoned the customer help line and she discovered that there was no email address shown on my account but she saw it in another area. She also noted that my name was entered two different ways in my account. She was not able to do any corrections. So how is that Customer help? I would have to take the time to go to my Broker and have them do it. I will be going to another Insurance Co. and cancel my policy with Intact. read more

I had my shop insurance with them. My roof collapsed suddenly due to snow load. Intact shut my shop down for months and then decided they would not cover me and sent me an invoice for tearing my building apart. They were impossible to get a hold of and when i did they were no help in understanding why my claim was denied. Since i was closed for months without pay i had fallen behind on bills and aready had to borrow more money. I was unable to get a loan to repair the building and ended up loosing my business, and building. I have had to claim bankruptcy and possibly about to loose my house to the bank all because i was denied. I thought you had insurance incase something happen! Since this happen i have talked to many people and have heard many stories where intact has denied claim that should be covered. I have talked to lawyers that say i would for sure win in court but it will take 18 months or more. read more

I am never going to use Belairdirect or Intact insurance (who owns Belairdirect and others) ever again. Their adjusters don't even follow their own rules and continually lowballing the market value without even using current information. At best, they have moved about 5% out of over a 30% value gap. They are not even aware of what the pandemic did to car values where used cars that can be bought today cost more than used card that won't be available for several months. All of my neighbours report better experience with other insurers and agree with the negative experience with both Intact and Belairdirect. I would really like to share this experience with those who are looking to move to new insurance companies. They should look to avoid them as they can count on poor appraisals when they need to make claims. read more

Worst customer experience ever. On February 5th I was rear ended by a customer of Intact insurance. Initially their claims department seemed helpful and based on their ad campaign that indicated that Intact wanted to be the insurance company you dream about I made the mistake of trusting them to provide a fair assessment for my damages. How wrong I was! Intact appraisers were unable to properly identify my vehicle and thus conducted a comparison with a lower end version of my car. The appraiser never attempted to contact me other than to say 'the total loss department will be in touch'. In addition to not being able to identify the model correctly the appraiser, who was able to find a rust spot on the roof that no one else ever noticed, missed the brand new upgraded suspension with coilovers that had just been added. She was also able to find hail damage that no one else had ever seen either. The claims manager admitted that their process was week for imported cars but adamantly refused to budge on the appraised value, essentially saying that even though they got the car wrong, they still got the market value right; HOW? Through it all the attitude of the adjuster was 'if you don't like it, sue us'. They seem pretty confident that they won't get sued as the costs of legal action will deter most. I will never voluntarily do business with Intact or the associated Brokerlink and I don't think you should either. read more

This is a yelp review for both the incredible Village Honda and my amazing car insurance Intact insurance. I had a really really terrible week this week, including 1 million things that have all gone wrong and financially completely strapping me including a $30,000 divorce that I totally can't afford. Plus on top of everything else I had a car accident and I have a brand new car insurance company called Intact. There was enough damage to my car to make me worry that Intact would just write it off which I've heard is always a terrible thing to do. But it was slightly driveable so I drove it to Village Honda where I get my twice yearly lube oil filters done and I know the staff are amazing especially the super Murray Haskayne (yes - he is from THAT very famous family)...... As soon as I arrived the shuttle driver pointed out that my license plate stickers were out of date by six months adding to my stress level and I almost started crying on top of everything. He was so attentive and sweet and helpful he actually thought it was because of him that I was almost crying but it was actually because of everything mostly the accident. Because I'm from Toronto I didn't know that for some crazy reason 99% of all car rental places are closed on the weekends in Calgary I don't know why- I think that's insane, in fact people would more usually need to rent a car on a weekend would you not think? This amazing shuttle driver brought me around to the most senior people in the company including the general manager Chris and somehow finally found a loaner via much ultra help from Tyler Sweet which they gave to me and I've driven it for almost a week for free which shows how trusting they are if they knew what a terrible driver I was. So thank you so much Village Honda and thank you also extremely to my Insurance Adjuster @Intact Insurance because as soon as he heard that I love the Toronto Maple Leafs he saved me 50% of my deductible!!!!!!I'll bet this is the first and only time that somebody saved $500 just because they are a leafs fan. Our Son (17 at the time) had a collision with a person who turned left in front of him. So in most if not all provinces in Canada, that person who turns left is an automatic at fault, especially so when our son's light was proven to be green! The short of it, we had to fight a ticket by a CPS officer who profiled our son (he had a loud SRT-4), and just had that withdrawn in Alberta court. Now Intact wants the courts documents for proof (makes sense to me) ,but they want to assign 50/50 blame vs the person who turned left in front him being 100% at fault! They don't listen, nor do they return calls emails go unanswered and unless you get very verbal and nasty with them (As I have now been doing) they will only respond to that type of action. Really quite sad how they seem to work outside of what the law says is or isn't. Intact also increased our sons insurance 52% due to this accident EVEN with the charge being withdrawn, even with the evidence that proves beyond any doubt that our son was in the right, and they say it's charged but not convicted! The rate will drop only by 25% when they receive the documents from the courts. Now many insurance companies allow your annual premium to be split up over the 12-month period, as does Intact, but they charge our son $110.00 annually for late payments that they agree to! They also charge him $20.00 each time they send out documents that were NEVER requested, all these smaller non-disclosed fees, added up equal other higher rate companies so do your homework, as these a**holes are about adding fees upon fee. So my advice, they offer cheap rates, but don't go with them, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE delivery, business model brokers are never in the office (yes, this is not intacts problem but it's a sign) INTACT YOU SUCK DONKEY D**K - Lesson learned, we are switching over to a new company, even paying marginally higher rates (10% higher than what we started to pay with Intact in the beginning). read more

Terrible customer service and far, far more expensive than most competitors. Was bounced around through 3 brokers in 3 years, but only ever found out when I called to speak to my broker. Never could get in touch with someone when I wanted to speak to them (it took weeks of me calling usually - leaving messages made no difference). Finally decided to cancel my renewal this year when the rate was almost triple what I could get elsewhere. My new broker HUNG UP ON ME during the call after spending most of the call interrupting me and talking down at me. Then, instead of sending me cancellation papers as requested, sent me quotes for other policies - far out of my budget. Even after I expressed that I was quite happy with changing companies and would not be remaining. So glad I changed. Won't be back. Hope more people continue to leave and find insurance elsewhere. read more

I have all three of my vehicles and my house insured with Intact. I have made several claims (hail damage X3 for roof and truck/car), and have been treated like royalty each time. They processed the claim quickly. All I had to do was show up. I don't understand the negative reviews on here; my experience has been exceptionally good. We have been using Intact Insurance for a number of years. The only time we've ever heard from an agent is when the bill is due. To make matters worse, we did inquire about our roof last fall with a deductible quoted for $1000 by our agent. Now that we're on our stay vacation and wanted to line up the roof repair, we were told that the deductible has mushroomed to $2500 + more. When asked to honor the original quote since it was under a year, the agent could only say "I'm sorry" .... like "my bad". I said I would share the experience with others. Understandably, there are many insurance claims in Alberta due to the Wild Fires and Flooding over the past few years, but we have home and auto insurance, with the last claim over 10 years ago under a previous insurance company. When speaking to neighbors on both sides, both had $0 deductible. Oh yeah, INTACT said it would be at least 6 weeks to follow up to do an inspection to get the claim started. Is this customer service or customer horror story? I'd say the latter. UPDATE: The insurance adjuster finally appeared Monday September 25 (exactly 4 months since I wrote this) and the deductible was $2500 (agent quote was not honored) plus a amortization added. Now a total of over $5000 - who needs insurance by these guys who take advantage of people when they reach out? read more

By far one of the worst Insurance companies to have to deal with. Never buy Insurance from this company because if you ever have a claim in a car accident they will make you jump through hoops before they ever get you what you need.....even if the car accident was not caused by you. I had my car into the body shop and had a rental car. I had contacted the body shop in the morning of Tuesday February 3 to inquire when my car would be ready. The shop said either Wednesday or Thursday. I phoned my adjuster to find out how long they were covering for my rental car. The adjuster phoned my autobody shop on the same Tuesday at around 3:20 pm and found out that the car was ready now. The adjuster phoned me back at around 3:30 pm stating my car was ready and they left me a message and that I had to go pick it up now as they would not cover for another day for the rental or else I would have to pay for it. I explained to the adjuster it's 3:30 pm, which is the start or rush hour and it's not like the autobody shop is across the street where I would have easy access to get my car. After alot of arguing with the adjuster that I could not possibly pick up my car during rush hour, the adjuster said fine she would only pay for the rental of the car for half a day so I would have to get the car in by noon on Wednesday. By the way I get home and there is no message from the autobody shop informing me my car is ready. Never mind that I work and I just can't leave my work to pick up my car at my leisure. So on Wednesday, I drop off the rental car at noon only to find out it doesn't make any difference whether I dropped it off at noon as they charge for the entire day. Now onto my physio treatments. I never get an explanation but I have to get extended coverage for my physio. The insurance paid for the first 21 treatments. Then they send me an email saying they approved of 10 more treatments "but" I would have to have this paid for by my employer benefits. There is no explanation as to the reason. When I try to contact someone at Intact after talking to several people that don't know, I finally get someone who explains to me the government legislation on this and was told I should know this. Like how would I know, I don't draft legislatiion as a career, this is done by the Premier and the MLAs. Honestly, the customer service is terrible and if you love getting the run around and never getting explanations or jumping through hoops, Intact Insurance is the one. read more

Worst customer service I've ever received, I'd give them zero stars if I could. I was rear ended all the way back in November. First my adjuster sent me 5 or 6 different forms to have filled out by my employers, my physio office and myself and I couldn't open a single one. I had the updated Adobe she requested me to have and even tried on a friends computer. I emailed her so many times to get the proper forms and she took weeks before she replied. To make matters worse she called me the wrong name in the email she sent and didn't even send the proper forms. She emailed them to me before Christmas and ignored my question about which ones my employer was supposed to fill out so I would be paid for taking off work. Eventually I just filled them all out on my own and sent them back. A few days after the Christmas holidays I emailed her to see if she received them only to get a message she was on vacation for the next while. A different adjuster emailed me back to tell me that I hadn't gotten the proper ones filled out. I replied to them and again was ignored. Finally my adjuster emailed me to tell me which were the proper forms. I promptly got them filled out and sent back to her by last Monday afternoon. I didn't hear from her all week so I emailed her again to confirm that she received them, only to get an automated response saying she was on maternity leave for a year !! And the only number or email given was the overall company number and email. In emails made back in November my adjuster had told me they would cover my concussion and physio treatments, turns out they told the office they would only cover my physio and concussion better be paid for by any other coverage I had. This was 30 days after the accident that they told my office this and I had to pay out of my own pocket for my concussion treatments. I will never go through intact again and I strongly advice everyone else to go elsewhere. What a waste of my time and awful customer service. read more

This company is one of the worst for car insurance. I was out of town and when I returned I found out my vehicle received hail damage. There was a hail storm earlier that day that left a lot of cars with dents and bruises. I put in the claim only for this company to accuse me of damaging my own car. They rejected the claim as the damage was not consistent with hail damage, what else could it be? I called them numerous times and left many messages to speak to the rep that denied my claim but got no reply. When I finally got a hold of someone, they pretty much told me that it was denied because they believe the damage was inflicted on the car intentionally and I could get any compensation for the damage as a result. I told them that many cars in the area had hail damage and I offered to take pictures to prove to them that I was not the only one. In fact, many vehicles got it worse than me with broken windows. of course, they didn't want that as their minds were already made up.
